SOUNDS like a good idea. LOL. But what i hate is that when u go to do a burnout in gt3 all you hear is an ugly screach. I mean from doing a 360 w/ the e barke to a burnout, all you hear is an ugly screach.

Ok, look, sure you can't hear anything but the car when you're driving an LMP or something, but don't forget, this is GT4, and it has 500+ cars, including hybrids and electrics. Those cars make almost zero noise, and it's almost eerily quiet while driving them in Prologue. Not to mention that some replay cameras focus on cars from a long ways away, and you can easily hear crowd noice at that distance from even a race car.

Not to burst anyone's bubble but when I went to the Adelaide round of the ALMS series the 'celebrity' race (bunch of celebrities driving the same car, badly) was a field of 40 or so New Beetles. Because it was ****ing hot (40c with no shade) and the race was boring bar the crashes, my dad and I took shelter under the grand stand. We couldn't see a thing, but we knew cars were going by from time to time because of one thing: the tyres squealing. That was the only noise at all. The engines were utterly silent, and for the most part the grandstands were too unless someone crashed. So, if we're really shooting for realism, someone brought up that there should be less crowds if you're racing a Fiat Panda compared to a McLaren F1 say, well by that same token, the cars you'd actually hear the crowd in wouldn't draw a crowd that would make enough noise for you to hear, and the cars that draw the large, loud crowds are so loud themselves you would never hear them.

What you see on TV is insanely different from the real thing, even on board shots. You don't hear a beautiful engine noise, all your hear is mechanical noise from all aspects of the car, and a 110Db plus engine (F1 cars for example).

I wouldn't mind racing you in the upcoming gt4 with me in the 200 and you in your E30! You would be slithering about with the R.W.D and I would be powering through the bends in beautiful four wheel drifts!

Cheers

Now now wait a minute. An Audi 200 vs. an E30 is already an unfair fight! If I had an E30 M3, then you'd wipe that smiley off your face. Just a friendly rivalry here. And they were badged Audi 200's here too. The 5000's were the suck. I didn't even have quattro or turbo.... 👎

Next time you are driving down to the shops or to work, sit in your car - withot the radio on - and listen to how much 'ambient' noise you can hear.

True, most cars these days actually make their soundproofing into a product feature that's taken into consideration at purchase. I can even remember advertising campaigns focusing solely on it.

What if your driving in third person (out of car view)..........even the engine noise changes (goes lower) and you should be able to hear other things.

Technically the Bumper cam isn't 1st person either... the reason that the noise is different is because you're now behind the car and not in front of it?!

If they have background noise I really hope that you can turn it off.

In GT3 when I was driving around with the volume REALLY loud so I could head my straight 6........i got really irritated when the crowd came cheering.

I wanted to scream out "SHUTUP LISTENING TO MY ENGINE HERE!!!"

You were listening to the gt3 style crap engine whine? I pity you.
True. The sounds of the GT3 cars even compared to prologue aren't as good. Mind you whines can be appropriate on the correct car. Mercedes SL55 AMG anyone?

Yeah, that was really annoying. I bypassed the music in GT3 by de-selecting all the music tracks but you couldn't put off the stupid background noise!

So most of you are saying that you really just want the engine noise.........not any other noise, ok. I just wanted to see how people felt about it and its good to see everyones opinions. It may well be the at racing speeds that anything other than the engine noise would become inaudible. I would personally like to see a real racing atmosphere and ambience in the game, thats just my opinion but I do also think that getting the engine noise right to each car is very important.

Robin :D

^ at racing speeds you'd hear the engine and the wind... roll down your window next time you're on the highway doing 120km/h and see what you hear... you definitely won't hear birds chirping, even in the country.

...no, all you'll hear is the wind roar caused by the newly opened window :)

watch an F1 replay on TV and let me know if you hear birds chirping... you can barley hear the crowd at times... mostly just the engines... i don't think you can truly appreciate how loud they are until you see a race live.

When I was at the F1 a few years ago I couldnt believe how loud they were intill the fighter jets (F/A18's) did high speed flyovers!!

The sound effects from the GT series is definately a concern compared to some other recent releases, (V8 Super Car Driver 1 and 2 etc.) hopefully they will be some of the new additions implemented since Prologue's release. Making the locations actually sound like the real places would add greatly to the atmosphere even if you can't hear it while screaming along at high speed. Especially now with the 50km/h penalty it would be great to hear SOMETHING other then the dull throb of a car travelling at low speed.

......see, another person that agrees with me!....places have sound!....they just do. Crowds will cheer, the wind will blow, life won't stop. :D Even if you can't hear it cos your in the Mclaren F1 screamin past at 210 mph.....In the replay......your in the crowd, you should hear cheering around you.......then the car will blast past in fury..... :trouble:. Also...your driving your toyota yaris / vitz.....at stock level with no tuning on the outside the car camera angle...... are you telling me that as you go say 20 mph around a tight bend you wont hear things.....hmmm, that all mighty powerful 1 litre engine......yes its ear deafening!

Robin.......all for the environmental realism of GT4!
