Welcome to the first running of the GT4 Targa Turismo. This event will test cars and drivers over 18 quick stages, most under a minute long. And with multiple trophies up for grabs there is something in here for everybody.

Race requirements:
All events must take place in Arcade / Time Trial mode
Drivers may enter a maximum of 5 cars
More than one driver may choose the same car
Production cars only - no race, tuner or concept cars permitted
Each car must complete all stages to be classified

Free choice of Power and Weight in Quick Tune

Standard OLR racing rules apply:
Two Tires on the track at all times (Rumble strips are part of the track)
No wall touching
No hybrids
No Cheating of any kind
Knocking over cones is allowed as long as two tires are on track at all times.

Timing:
For stages that are run between 2 T-time points: note down both times and subtract one from the other to obtain a single stage time.
For stages run around a full lap: the final lap time is the stage time.

Time Submission:
Send me a single PM with your car/s, including year and power (hp), and final times for all stages.

July 31st 2005

Great idea, somebody. I'm in :trouble: I think I'll only run one car ... what to run :p

I assume rally cars are out?

sounds interesting, might decide to run this~

Production cars only I'm afraid. I figured there are tons of race car series out there already so I'd do something different.

A little history for anyone who may be interested...

This series was originally dreamed up by 5 friends and myself, all drunk at the time, sitting around debating the best cars to drive in GT3. We decided to run a race series that could be done in under an hour and involve the most interesting tracks. None of us could agree on which tracks to use so we decided to use just the best parts of the tracks.

That same weekend the Targa Tasmania was being held and we thought a similar format would be the best way to go. It was a unique format for a Gran Turismo race series (I still haven't seen anything else like it) and it was run very successfully via email for some time.

Originally there were 10 trophies up for grabs but I've since dropped the 2 weight classes. At its peak there were around 45-50 competing drivers, and about 30 regularly.

So many cars to choose from. I've got a few short-listed, but I've got a few more questions ...

1) Are tuner cars eligible?
2) How do you determine if something's a concept car (aside from it saying 'concept' in the name :p)? I'm really hoping that some of the supercars don't qualify (i.e. the R390 GT1, Speed 12), because there are a few cars that'll dominate ...

Good idea, Somebody!
I think I'm in to compete in this. Are there HP or power/weight restrictions on the Thoroughbred, Classic classes?

1 - Tuner cars aren't strictly production models, they're modified, so I'll add them to the restricted list.

2 - Any car that says concept or is an obvious concept (Nike etc..) are out. I don't mind the R390 or Speed 12 entering as they wont dominate every class (3 out of 8 maybe).

No restrictions other than those listed for each trophy. If this event is popular enough to run again I will probably change the trophy requirements around or add a few extra so more cars have something to aim for.

As for myself, I'm going to be running an FPV F6 Typhoon, an RX7 of some description, and probably a Lotus. Yet to decide about the other 2 cars I might enter.

With the F6 the shortest stage is 18 seconds and the longest is 1'00. 11 of the stages are between 40 - 50 seconds.

haha love the idea... targa tasmania rocks and to do a series based on gt4... brillient idea... im thinking i will drive a monaro.. like mr brock... and maybe a ruf of some description for an outright... magnifigant idea!!

Sounds cool, I'll try and run a car in each class, if I can find the time!!!!

Love the idea of the thoroughbred class.

Nice thinking Somebody.

so just going through the rules.. we just run all these stages.. leg 1,2,3 and just give them to you b4 the 31st of july?

Yep.

Run all 18 stages in any order you like, as many times as you like, then post me all times in a single PM with car, year and hp figure. As for the 'Leg' thing, I just broke the stages in to 3 because it looked neater - I need all 18 times please.

Had a first crack at Leg 1 and most of Leg 2 this afternoon, here's what I've got so far:

Although originally a concept, the NSX-R was made as a limited production so I will allow it.

ok thnx for the info :) (goes back to gt4 and his tv 👍 )

Just finished running the Elise 111R. Times are all over the place - everything from 1 second faster to 1.5 seconds slower than the F6. This is quite possibly due to my current level of sobriety.

I think I'll go back and start improving some of the slower stage times on all 3 cars that I've run before doing a 4th car.

The RX-7 is definitely a good choice. Slightly down on power-to-weight, but the handling makes up for it. I was able to hit 0'45's on S3 (the 'Ring) without too much trouble. I was thinking of running an Elise in the under 200hp category also :)

awsome stuff brandstormer, that will definetely come in handy

Just though I'd mention, being a 2002 NSX would put it in the "Contemporary" category, rather than Modern 👍

Ok, managed to finish all the stages with my car :)

I don't think my car will be a winner (the RX-7 will beat it fairly easily, I think), but I'm pretty sure nobody else will run it :p

Work has got in the way of me improving my times by too much but I've got the F6 and the RX7 down to roughly the same times you got with the mystery car.

Is it the Mitsubishi CZ-3 Tarmac by any chance?

that thing rox!

hehehe

This loox like a weird kinda way to race, i may give it some thought, but for the time being, i'll just watch if thats ok?

Cushty. 👍
