I came across an idea one day while I was working on a cockpit for DFP/GT4 and since I own a shop with some spare space in the back for a LAN game. I was thinking of holding a tournament for local GT4 players. although I don't have an experience with the LAN on GT4 with max players. is there any lag during game play?

if there aren't problems with the LAN on GT4? I'm thinking of building 6 quality cockpits using DFP and holding GT4 tournaments for all ages and of course cash prizes/trophies!!! hopefully if everything turns out well, I'm planning on building 12 to 18+ in the future to hold several tournaments at one time.

but before I can make this happen, I'll need some help with people that have experiences with at least 4 to max players LAN play with GT4 (no 2 or 3 players, and online play with GT4) also I'd like some input if you'd be interested in something like this if it were held in your area?

tracks will be random picked from a hat and will be posted a month ahead of time.

-Race Classes-
kids classes: beginner stock and open/advance stock and open
teens ages 13 to 19: beginner stock and open/advance stock and open
young adults+: beginner stock and open/advance stock and open

25 laps. advance stock HP range min 200 hp to "anything goes"

any age Extreme 50 laps F1 cars only

-Drift classes- (tandem battles) for all ages
beginner TCS/ASM on or off
advance ASM on or off
pro TCS/ASM off

-Rally racers-

(all memory cards will be checked 5 minutes before races are held with my techs for its class/hp and of course cheats!)

There is some slight, but noticeable lag in LAN mode. We used 6 PS2s in one room with 100MBps connection...!

Contact Wastegate for more details on his setup.

was it playable lag in LAN or not worth it? if so, with the 6 player LAN setup, what was a good playable setup with the amount of players?

sorry I'm new to GTplanet, how do I go about and contacting wastegate about more information about the LAN setup?

Go to your Private Message centre. Click on "Send New Message" on the left. Type "Wastegate" into the "Recipient" box and type your message.

It was certainly playable enough that we had 12 drivers over the weekend for a total of 22 hours... :D

thanks famine, I'll be sure to message wastegate for more info about LAN setups...

so with max amount of players its still playable (guessing with small amounts of lag?) 12 racers, 22 hours of play time!!! sounds like something I'd like to get into but throw in cash prizes! :) I'd like to see some really skilled racers/drifters!!!

anyone else have feedback on any interest in a tournament in something like this? something you'd get into? pay to play, to win prizes? yes/no

I'm planning on having this up within 2 months give or take. with more input, the sooner I can get started!

BTW: as far as cash prizes, I'd like to had out (example: PS2 consoles, contorollers, memory cards, latest games out, GT4 hats & Tshirts, etc...)

thanks worksaccess for welcoming me into the world of GTplanet and also for your input! if I lived in the UK, I'd probably hold a GT4 tournament there too. see the best of the best in GT4, seeing skills at work, learning tips and tricks to setups, and having fun with other GT4 fans... not to mention bragging rights haha :)

anyone welcome to give more input? yes/no/maybe (I see its being read! lol)

I'd love to go to a GT4 tournie that would be relly cool, but most of the LAN parties in the Uk ar e hard to get to as I dont have a car.

The Lan parties in the UK that ive heard of are mainly PC based.

my 42 inch plasma dont travel well in my car tho!

nah, i have a kick ass pc, want to go to lans and my friend Phil holds his own in a nearby scout hut, just they're usally when i'm not free lol

when i get a car and my own monitor im going for some lan goodness

Sounds a good idea. welcome to GTP. i just wish they ran these in the UK!

We do.

The last one was attended by daan, me, Wastegate, vexd, RogsR34, Littleg and Sukerkin, along with some of the local crew. We've had Lotus350, Mr. P and Banjobear, amongst others, at the two previous ones. And it wasn't all THAT far from Reading...

good luck with the comp kouki_ae86 sounds like it'd be good fun, prizes would make it even more worthwhile and push people

Famine let me know when your next holding a lan tourney cause i live in/near reading and would head down for sure!!

thanks for the input A7X, yeah I'm hoping that the prizes bring out the GT4 fans to come and play. I'm also thinking of once every 3 months or so for a "$200 dash for cash" for those whos only interested in winning cash.

I'm glad to see that GT4 LAN parties are working well in the UK but I'm not getting enough response from US players. I see 180 people viewed/read this thread but not enough replies...

I'd like to get more input from US players if this should be a GO or NO!!! :)

cool where and when. i will be there 👍

I would definitely want to do this, buuuuut...I live on the other side of the country. If you want to come to Georgia and run one, by all means I'll be there :D

you could also try advertising it in your shop/in the shop window making sure that people can see their are prizes up for grabs as this would draw more attention to it and see how much interest you get, also maybe try other gt forums?

my 2 cents

There aren't PS2 LANs in the UK, not that many people have a network adapter. I have one though, but most people own Xbox Live,

Umm... hel-lo?

wonderful input, I'm actually making a sign or more like, thinking of a design to catch GT4 players eyes to play. but fliers handed out, is a good idea! I'll try posting this in other GT4 forums... thanks 👍

Do it, man! If there was one here in Houston, I'd be on it like a fat kid on a jelly donut! Sounds awesome, really, and if you end up building and hosting this thing, you had better post pics!

I have played lan and it works fine....i am in the redwood city area so goin to sf should not be a problem...BTW in LAN play you can NOT run moddified cars.....so if you just have a bunch of arcade cars unlocked....that should be sufficient....thus eliminating cheating...is it a drift comp or race...ill go up for driftin...

so far I've go most of the material for the cockpits, just waiting for some shipment to come in so I can take some more measurements. I'm sure I'd take pictures asap once its all done 👍

how many LAN players did you have? so you didn't have much problems with lag? glad to see a GT4 fan living in the bay area! hopefully you'll be one of my regulars? lol

so arcade car bought/unlocked are only available for LAN games? so that takes care of the cheat portion but it'd be nice to access memory cards that have modified cars for other classes...

once I get things all straighten out, I'll be sure to PM more information about the competition 👍

A GT4 LAN party does sound like it would be a lot of fun. You're about two hours north of me, so it better be worth the drive. Then there's the difficult problem of transporting my cockpit. I still don't know how I'll do that.

not exactly sure if you're referring to the UK GT4 LAN parties or my tournament for GT4? but I'm currently building several high quality DFP cockpits at the moment, so there would be no need to transport your cockpit. I will provide all for a GT4 steering wheel setup.

I'm in California & I'm referring to your GT4 LAN party. I'm sorry, I should have been clearer about that. Anyway, it's great that you already have several cockpits for the tournament. That makes things way simpler for me.

I'm sure it can be done. This is a good idea for your community. The kids will dig what your doing for them. Where the rest of the people like you?
