GT4 Weekly Race Series Qualification

After about 40 minutes, I decided I'd had enough of going off on that right-hander coming off the straight. My time was probably pretty lousy, but we shall see.

Finally I have send my time to Kent, I hope 4 getting to div 2 ...

But to be honest (there was a thread on it in the "old" WRS), most of the people there claimed to do their fastest runs after a 10 to 20 laps. So, not much time would be needed to set your qualifier...

The track is new though and needed some more time to get used to.
 
I really enjoy the Infineon course (Sears Point), but I've spent too many laps driving around it in the ASL race car, so the M3 is a dickens to get used to. I finally got a clean lap I'm happy with, but I'm convinced I've left a couple of seconds (a TON of time) on the track to be had. If I can master those first two uphill Esses I'll be happy. In any case, I'll submit my best time at the end of the day tomorrow (I'm at work today :yuck: )

It's an interesting experience not knowing the target I'm shooting for, so I'll have to settle for just beating my son's time! :)
 
I spent a lot longer on this than I wanted to. I got an OK lap around 20 laps in and spent the next 30 or so trying (and failing) to beat it 8(. Hopefully it's a better lap than I thought and I wasn't just driving bad.
 
I hit my goal time, but was getting the typical DFP pedal brake sticking during that (nothing like having to kick the brake off out of corners). Gotta clean and refix my pedals (I got about 3000kms on this round, not bad) and give it one more shot before I submit with fully working pedals.

I think there is another .2-.3 out there for me on the perfect lap and that will be my limit. Frankly I can't see how anyone could go faster but I've learned that whatever I think the limit is for a given car/circuit combo that the really fast guys will cut .5-1 second off depending on the circuit.

Oddly I tried the car with TCS on, I rarely use TCS, and couldn't get within 1.5 seconds of my time without TCS...yikes! Turned it off again and dropped .3 secs to get under my goal time on the next lap.

Even those this is only a qualifier it is one of the best OLR races I have ever done.

Looking forward to the real WRS.

Im surprised how much people seem to like the M3, I think it understeers way too much under braking. I know this is a charicteristic of GT4, and real cars, in fact, but it really seems worse than any other car ive driven in GT4.

Havent had the brake problems everyone else is with the DFP, but the gas pedal seems to not respont right sometimes, and sometimes I cant get full throttle..must be the connector.

I don't get people saying the M3 understeers. I've read it here and on other GTP boards.

To my "feel" it is one of the most well balanced cars in the game, the best of the FRs. It can be driven full grip style or driven so the tail hangs out.

The only place I get understeer on it is on the first right hander, cresting the hill trying to turn in (late by that time) which makes sense as weight is being lifted off of the nose...but that is it.

I will say that the M3 rewards early braking, almost like a RR car. Slow in fast out. If you go in too fast you will understeer, trail braking to fast will get the same.

I was up at 5am today with my Trulli hat on (new white Toyota one) cheering for him. I'll be there tomorrow to!

I love the M3, but it does seem to do that sometimes, especially with this course/car combination. I had a lot more fun running it in the El Capitan endurance race than here.

Im surprised how slow the Ferrari still is, they were talking pretty big about it all week, now even with Shumacher pushing too hard, its slower than the Renault and the Toyota!
 
Yeah, Im getting better with the M3, but I really had to change my driving style to work with it... I did take another second off my time tho 👍 👍

This is a great track for WRS qualification, there are alot of little things you have to do here and there to get a faster time. I love it when you have to go slower through a corner to get a faster lap! :cheers:
 
i'll be submitting my time soon this week, i've been engrosed with GT mode..
and also making my cockpit..
so i guess now it's time for WRS again..
hope i can make Div 2 this time...

Do you try until you can do a few consistent laps with a good line, and then try to get a few seconds lower than that?
 
i get my best sectors together and make a "perfect" lap, and aim for that, as my "perfect" lap gets faster and faster so does my clean laps. eventually the "perfect" lap is only a few tenths faster than my clean lap.

I keep a handful of cars in my Sim Garage that I know very well. One or two of each drivetrain andboth normal and race cars. I get to know these cars very very well in many different setups and use them as a bench mark.

On circuits I know well I know what a given car can do based on hp/weight and tires. I'll make an assumption on what times are possible, run a few laps and adjust from there. Then I'll chop .5 seconds off what I think is the "perfect" lap in the car and set that as my goal time. If I get under that, or sometimes even near it, I am happy.

For circuits I don't know or cars I rarely use (which is most of them) I'll base my assumptions on what other cars with similar Power to weight ratios can do on that circuit. But I really don't have an idea until I run some laps and/or see T times of other racers. From there I can figure out what I can do.

For this combo I know Infineon well and the M3 even. However I had never driven this combo before, nor had I ever "tuned" an arcade car. I knew what a stock M3 CSL should do around Infineon so I based my goal time on that, with the tune on the stock M3 it was kinda close to the CSL so I was in knew I would be in the ballpark.
 
I just spent this last hour driving my M3 around Infineon Sports Car Course.

It took me the first 30 minutes to get anywhere close my previous best time and 15 more to improve it, and only by approximately a quarter of a second.

My calculations for the perfect lap (I use the same method described by Small_Fryz: I take the time difference of all my best sectors, T1 - Start, T2 - T1, Finish - T3, and then put it together to figure out what the lap time would be if all those best sectors could be put together) say that there is another 0.160 yet to be gained and cut from my current best time.

But I think this is close enough. I might do one more last session before calling it quit, later tonight. But if the time is not improved within the first 30 minutes, then I will be submitting. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on the point of view) I am going to assist to a Conference in Florida and I am scheduled to leave early tomorrow morning (5:30AM). I won't be back home until late Wednesday night, therefore I am going to have to submit tonight, as I want to have a Division for next week's WRS.

It more than likely won't be the much desired Division 1, but I'll have to live with it :indiff:

But shi_ta form is AFAIK used 4 a things that happend some time ago (or they have last 4 some time and just finished - ie at the restaurant) not a long time ago but also not 4 a thing that happend at the moment that u are speaking (of course IMO - no ofence - correct me if im wrong)

In everyday usage in japan you will hear Arigatou Gozaimas h i t a as you are thanking them for something they have just done which, although just done, is still in the past.
 
Hmmm i'll definitely give that sector time method a shot for the first WRS race (redoing the qualification combo and finding out i can make a significant improvement... that would drive me nuts :crazy: )
Simple and looks representative of a best lap one can do.
(Kensei your method just looks like too much work :) )
