GT4 WRS Week 153 : Opel Speedster @ Clubman Stage Route 5

Vehicle Specifics:
  • Power: 284 bhp (in settings) 266 bhp (in replay)
  • Modifications: Oil change, Stage 3 Turbo power upgrade only, all non power upgrades, No Nitrous, No Wing
  • Tyre Type: N2‘s (NTSC = Standard Comfort) (PAL = Standard Luxury)

This means that your car must always be 284 bhp (in settings) 266 bhp (in replay) by adding the Stage 3 Turbo and doing an oil change.

you can add any mods to the car as long as it doesn't increase or lower you HP, no NOS, and you're also not allowed to add a wing.

So if you want to add the roll cage, add it. If you want anything, add it, but as long as it's not, NOS, wing, or any mod that increases or lowers your HP. 👍
Thanks, I was under the impression that it was required to have everything else, so I was struggling with the full customizable limited slip, and the brake balance controller, the rollcage (which I don't think helped.)

Thanks again.

you guys should also try and remember to read what the game says about upgrades at the bottom of the screen...you can learn alot from their descriptions.

adding a rollcage also adds rigidity to the car...mostly a good thing made better...but in some cases a good thing made worse. it doesn't always help the car's performance and in some cases it actually degrades the performance.

Wish I could use a dfp, seems like it would be awesome with this combo. The Viper on this track is a Sunday LAN favorite of Jakes. Hope you get to run it Jake

Well if I can get home this weekend I will run it for sure. Sounds like fun, although I doubt I will have time to get it tuned properly. :scared: Hope you are healing well Kenny, we should have the new DFP and disc shortly. 👍👍

Finally got one that was fast AND clean. Didn't even change my settings from last night, once again proving that taking a break can be the most helpful thing you can do to improve your times...

T1 22.275
T2 40.394

(for the sake of the Luxy leaderboard, this is for Div 3 and using a Sixaxis PS3 controller)

Came up with some new splits mostly the same with the custom limited slip down to 5,5,5 and toe at 4,-3, and the front slammed. By the way, I am using a DFP.
Ams is on.
21.183

I've actually found part of the reason i'm having so much trouble with this car.

My wheel (an original driving force) is a bit "worn" and has a small area when the wheel is straight, where it doesn't respond well, so "straight ahead" is sometimes slightly to the left or the right, this area changes as I'm driving. On a car that doesn't slide a lot, this doesn't really matter, or when drifting, it also doesn't really matter since I can just keep sliding on the straights.

With this, when I try to straighten out when coming out of a corner, it sometimes doesn't "get straight' and the car starts sliding a little bit again, or keeps sliding in whatever direction it was going. Other times, if I'm doing a very low angle drift, the wheel might "kick in" and cause a small snap understeer.

Last time this happened I had to take apart the wheel and clean all the connections. I might give that a go again. If that doesn't work, I may have to just sit out on these types of "slidy" races. I don't have the money for another wheel.

well had some laps with this, my settings where largely standard accept for gearing to auto 7, by standard i mean no racing suspension, lsd or braking balance kit installed, and ofcourse no tcs or asm.

20.395
36.600

this combo is a drifters paradise;)

My tinkering is starting to pay off. :nervous:

22.415
39.855

I don't like a tight car so my settings have it a bit on the loose side. I think I'll leave the suspension as it is and play with the tranny in the morning. I know what I want it to do I just need to figure out how to accomplish it. :dunce:

AFter driving that rally all week this is actually becoming a fun little combo, at least for now.👍👍 I'm sure I'll get plenty frustrated before weeks end.

Well its not for me, have fun guys!

Do you have a wheel - pedals combo ?

Man, I don't know how you do it... I had to take the racing suspension to do that:

22.927
40.658

Drifting is way too hard for me with this kind of car: I have no time to react as soon as the car is sliding form the back... :nervous:

na, i dont have a dfp anymore, i good tip for drifting, 0 steering lock is generally the way to go, let the rear do all the work, just make minor little mid drift corections. hope that helps

Sorry, not much time to run tonight, but I can confirm that my tires were wrong. I'll edit my earlier post, sorry for the mixup, please take me off the board until I get some real splits!

It's not just about "what's good for the car", it's about what's good for you and the car.
And "what's good for the track"! Well, the combination of your driving style, the car, and the track all put together... Some of those "perfect tunes" for cars make my mind boggle. :yuck:
I haven't driven on n2 tires for over 2 years in gt4, so I'm speaking for myself, but I'm going through so much frustration because of how slowly I have to drive. Even my worst handling cars can corner faster than this (and I usually drive on n3 tires) , so I feel as if I'm having to learn a completely new game just to do this challenge.
[...]
Basically, I'm not having much fun. I'm putt-putting around in this thing, trying to figure out how to get some of the nonexistent grip these tires have to offer.
When I first hopped into it, I felt pretty much the same way. Then I thought about real life, and how what I'm needing to do in order to make the turns makes perfect sense. Until I saw Superwally's splits and started tearing out my hair trying to duplicate his T1, by using his settings, my settings, different settings, the WALL... Not happening, lol.
you guys should also try and remember to read what the game says about upgrades at the bottom of the screen
Until you get to the part about toe in and toe out, and the fact that the game doesn't tell you which you're getting by moving the marker from one side to the other... :grumpy: GT1 was still the best at describing and displaying everything. Luckily it looks like GT5's going to be pretty good in that department again, YAY!

Thaaaaaaank you. Now I feel much better. But still, damn you're an alien. 👍👍

Just inspected my townhouse that I'm buying... Crazy! Now it's past my bedtime, no time to play tonight or tomorrow night! This weekend though, I'll see what I can come up with. Or actually, I may have time right after work tomorrow night before I head out for the evening. We'll see.

Done.

Same here, well done Ron!

this combo is a drifters paradise;)
 Someone better teach me how to drift in order to survive combos like this :)

Welcome all new players 👍

It's amazing what you can get out of this car with more or less default settings. 👍

I assume you drifted most of your way around the track?

I just bought everything there is to buy. Didn't change anything on the settings except the braking (7/9). Resulted in these splits:
T1: 21.965
T2: 39.627

Ok, OK, Stan. Apart from "what's good for the car" , "what's good for you" and "what's good for the track". What have the Romans ever done for us? :sly:

Hey guys is there a forum page that explains all or most of the components on tuning for Exsample: Dampers , Toe Angle , LSD.

Ive tried reading it on GT4 at the bottom of the screen but it just moves to fast to fully understand what its implicating.

Thanks QUIK!

I had a session to test some settings, and got this setup:
Brakes 5/2
Aids 0/0/1
Tranny trick, auto 1, final 4.400
LSD 30/45/35
Weight 0/-50
Springs 8.0/8.0
Height 95/100
Dampers 7/7/7/7
Camber 1.5/0.0
Toe -2/0
Stabilisers 4/4

I think it doesn't feel bad for a car with N2 tires, but I know I have much to improve on tuning, and I'm still far away from holl01 (I don't have clean and fast laps saved, but my best T2 was 37.8). Maybe I'll try his standard settings next :trouble: ?

I don't know about a thread containing the information, but I know you can pause the scroll by pressing down on the L3 button. It doesn't give you a lot of info on some settings.

I'm sure you could ask in a tuning thread, those guys want to help out. You don't have to get the setup, but an explanation instead.

As for setups, I was tweaking the buttons a little here and there, ran another 50 miles, and/or attempts and couldn't improve my lap. I went back to mostly default settings (B) and beat my ghost by nearly .5 second in 2 laps. I did buy all racing parts though. Setting C has none, I'll go back to that and try it.

I wasn't sure if it was a drift event or not, even though I am drifting out of most corners. Drifting the complete tunnel can be fun.

Thanks Jake 01GTP and Andy quick response's, i did look but couldnt find nothing ill check them out later...

(Later on that day lol)

Ok did some reading up on what different components do in terms of weight transfer and spring rates and came up with some ok times thanks again guys!

T1 - 0'21.407
T2 - 0'38.134

Going to find it hard to shave more time off but see what happens

QUIK!

Did some tweaking here as well. I really don't know what I'm doing but I make small changes and go from there. In any event:

21.872
39.624

I went back to default and found myself all over hells creation so whatever I did must have helped some.

this site helps quite a bit which jake kindly showed me it might do for you too, takes a while to read but its worth it helped me shave a full second so far.

It explains what each part of the car you are changeing does

FINAL 4.000

As a grip racer I don't think this is so much a lesson in tuning anymore as it is in drifting. I couldn't touch my previous lap after reading up on tuning and whatnot until I decided trying to remove the oversteer was going to be impossible. So, as counter-intuative as it seems, drifting, the first time I tried it yielded these splits. Stopping for now and hope to come back to it later tonight.

Interesting. I had never driven the Turbo before. Quite fun.
21.668
39.160
I did a few laps in it with stock settings, and I think there is room for improvement.

Toronado, I don't know you so better let us know your WRS qually status and I'll put your splits in the board 👍

Quik/Steve: well done mate, don't drive too fast consistantly or you'll be out of Div2 before you know it
