:: GT4 WRS Week 84 ::
Well as promised, this week we have a faster car...much faster! The RSS tyres might sound too grippy in theory but you'll be wishing for more grip in no time. :sly: While testing, it felt a bit like "Dukes of Hazzard", so with that said...let's get the lead out 👍

week084sd5.jpg

Race Details:
  • Mode: Arcade Mode > Time Trial > Original Circuits
  • Track: Trial Mountain Circuit (Normal)
  • Make: USA > Chevrolet
  • Model: Corvette Z06 (C2) Race Car '63 (Needs to be won in the "Corvette Festival")
Vehicle Specifics:
  • Power: (0%) 600hp
  • Weight: (-10%) 1051kg
  • Top Speed: Any
  • Driving Aids: Any
  • Transmission: Any
  • Tyre Type: Racing-Super soft (or harder)
Week 84 Race Specifics:
Two specific details this week. Firstly, the yellow striped area around the track is legal surface. Secondly, the cement on the opposite side of the rumble strips does not count as track. So under the first bridge be careful how close you get on the left and on the final chicane before the Start/Finish line be careful not to stray too far to the left.

Standard Clean OLR Rules:
  • 2 wheels on (or vertically in line with) the track at all times
  • rumble/ripple strips are part of the track
  • no contact with walls or objects, visible or invisible
  • if you're not 100% sure that your lap is clean, then consider it dirty
  • no hybrids
  • no cheating of any kind
  • nothing that goes against the spirit of the rules
  • save your replay ('save replay' icon)
Thread rules:
The following info cannot be discussed in this thread (they can, however, be discussed on MSN or via other private conversation methods):
  • lap time
  • any information which can be used to infer lap time
Submission:
All submissions must be sent by PM to me (MisterWeary):
  • you can submit only once per race
  • please include in your submission PM your division, name and final lap time
  • deadline is Tuesday 4th December 11am GMT (L.A. 3am, Toronto 6am, New York 6am, London 11am, Paris/Berlin/Rome 12 Noon, Syd/Melb 10pm)
  • if you are still unsure of the deadline try this site
Time verification:
Save your replay and keep it at least a full week after the time has been submitted:
  • fastest times each week will be required to submit a replay for verification
  • any submitted time is subject to a time verification request
  • when a time verification has been requested, the concerned racer must provide a replay before the next race deadline
  • failure to do so will result in the removal of the unverified submission from WRS results
  • video replays are not accepted, only .max, .xps or .sps files can be verified

Now these are my splits, but again I've spent a good few hours on this one already so I feel very very close to my limit:

T1: 0`15.383
T2: 0`33.830
T3: 0`58.831

Board Initialised

cool cool cool!
favvie track, great car - on to it rightaway.

This sounds brilliant! I'm getting out there now :D

EDIT: Where do I win this car? I've just been to Chevrolet in Arcade & it wasn't there.

I edited the first post to show where the car is won, you have to win the Corvette Festival to get it 👍

Sa-weet... Time to do justice! Last time on Trial Mountain, I was second-last in the splits and missed the deadline (Accidentally submitted to Colby ). So...

my first splits to laugh about:

16.940 - 36.942 - 1.03.057

millions of seconds to find everywhere but those apexes are like a reverse magnet to me somehow.
topspeed indications anyone? i am hesitating between 280 and 300 on no aids and auto.

i know its past the deadline by a few hours- enjoyed racing it and managed to beat my old time by .1. heres the replay of 1'25.466;)

Did my first laps on this one. Looking at the splits I'm doing alright, but when driving I have no idea what I'm doing on those supersofts...

15.205
33.683
58.712
DFP again

What top speed where you running, Colby? I was running 310.

Yeah, this thing doesn't have the downforce that the newer race cars have... Won't have time for a go this morning after doing the replay thing, but I'll be back tonight! :D

Ok, first impressions:
  • Sweet sound
  • Good looks
  • Oldtimer Goodness
  • Zero Downforce :grumpy:

You were right - RSSs sound sticky enough for most cars, but this one handles just like a regular car would on RSHs. Splits so far are about a second slower than Steven, and B-bob is quicker until T2...

Not as addicting as I thought a powerful, lightweight Chevy racer would be.

Very fun combo, Colby. 👍

Both from memory and your description I really feared the worst, but the Corvette actually behaves quite well with those Super Softs.

First session:

16.073
34.724
59.909

It is, and it sounds like a tractor in the low revs. I think I like that combo just because of the pure madness: Sticky tyres, no downforce (You get 0 traction on jumps...), Infinite-Torque and tractor-sounds while doing 250KM/h.

I'm finding it incredibly hard to stay on the track & get a good T1, I had a couple of 25's but I messed them all up in later sectors.

So far: Touring in the low 0'16s, had some 0'15s. Busy perfecting lines and braking-points for the T1 sector, because I alway seem to mess up the corner after T1 - either I brake hard, and combined with a downshift, make to car neutral-oversteery, which launches me into the INSIDE wall, or I overshoot it into the wall.

So far, Updated: Getting better by the minute. This car is like nothing I've ever driven. Screw LMPs, this thing is a true savage. Savage and raw, yet... Balanced. Goes like a rocket, looks like one, and sounds like a Tractor. And another blazing lap gone into the wall... This has to be the toughest combo since Week 72 (NSX-LM, anyone? Even Dan found it tough), even more than 75. I think I'll have to re-rank the Corvette as one of the top-10 car-"families", after racing this one, the Stingray C3, the Z06 Roadcar, and the C5R at different OLR events...

My Dad restored a 63 stingray when I was a kid. He sold it before I was able to drive so I never got the chance to run it... The resto took him around 7 years. No mods, bone stock, just off the showroom floor appearance. I always miss that car. This week is a cool reminder of it. I hope to get a chance to race this weekend. I don't want to miss it...

Good thing I read this part:

"Secondly, the cement on the opposite side of the rumble strips does not count as track. So under the first bridge be careful how close you get on the left and on the final chicane before the Start/Finish line be careful not to stray too far to the left."

What an absolute blast...!!!!!!!!!! 👍👍👍

This is soo much fun. It's not necessarily a hard combo, until you try to go fast that is... Riding the limit and threading the needle is soooo much fun in this thing. When you get something right it feels good because it's so nuts.

This car's engine is absolutely amazing. For a 1963 V8 to be making this much power, with this smooth of a power delivery, at up to 8000(!:scared:!) rpm, is insane! I bet they had to rebuild the engine after EVERY single race. And probably didn't make it through a lot of races due to engine failure, but who knows. The drivers of these things back in the day though, oh man, I sure hope they were paid well. :) It's a beast! Love it!

Haven't managed an under 1 minute T3 yet, but it's very close, I've just been going off the track a few times, that's all...

Regarding gearing(MK1 this may help your T1), I started out with the 310, and thought that I could use a bit more torque at the bottom of third gear so I swapped over to 300... Well, with 300, it's harder to get through the chicane right before the S/F line, and it's MUCH harder to weave through the rest of the first sector with any sort of speed...

310 feels good though, and the engine's enough torque to make third work in your favor. You can weave through the chicane before the S/F line without letting off the power, and shift into 5th right after you finish weaving through the first part of it. Then get wide(right) and lose a bit of speed while braking and downshifting into 4th to weave your way through the next high speed bits near the top of 4th gear with only a little letting off here and there... Make sure you're setting yourself up for the following corners and you'll do well. Hitting the apexes with this car is very important if you want to go fast. Even if it seems like you're slowing down a lot, you can get on the power sooner and power right out.

Super fun.

Splits in a bit! :)

Edit: Nevermind, gotta go in to work! Boss wasn't there when I got there this morning so I came home for a bit...

What top speed where you running, Colby? I was running 310.

I was using 270, seemed good to take the lower speed corners in third, gear changes were all in good places and the top speed down that back straight was about 266km/h, I'll have to try 310 though.

I'll post a lap run down later today 👍

Board Updated

I tried, and found 300 better for the first two chicanes - for me, at least. And, as usual, my taste changes every couple of minutes.

First few laps, well, about 20 odd laps actually. I think I'm addicted to this one already, it usually takes me a couple of sessions to get into a combo but I like this one straight outta the box. Colby

T1 0'15.931
T2 0'34.967
T3 1'00.999 nee naw. :D

Just because I like it, it doesn't make me fast unfortunately...Not Yet anyway. :p

Darren.

Colby...DO NOT log on to MSN at the moment. Metar and I are taking a trip down 'tar battle memory lane?

It sounds like my prayers were heared!
That's a fantastic combo!
I've offered Vette on Laguna Seca like a remind of the American GT championship during 1960s, and also tested the car here on Trial Mountain. So it's amazing that Colby chosed this track! Using this tyres for such a relief track and no downforce is optimal. Thanks for that! I'm sure that it would be a very interesting ultimate week!

First splits:
T1: 0:15:365
T2: 0:34:322
T3: 0:59:474

Just some fine pics of the car:

well I'm back for some wrs action, this will be the first week in almost a year i think! :)
Well im still in div 3 so that stinks... but im slow anyhow :)

splits
T1 15.772
t2 35.389
t3 1'01.713 yuck! But this seems to be a fun combo and I'm gonna put in some work! :)

Tried this for a bit. It's an absolute blast for the first sector, literally and figuratively. I'm consistantly in the mid 15's, and definitely remember seeing a 15.2xx, and then 2nd sector I'm usually atrocious, but somehow once got a sub 34.5xx, and then STILL haven't gotten below a minute by T3. Guess I have some work to do, but what a nice change from the past two weeks.

Well this is my best clean lap so far

T1: 15.315
T2: 34.622
T3: 59.842

but i have seen these splits

T1: 15.458
T2: 34.199
T3: 59.609
and .500 at the line but i just put a third wheel on the cement :(

Yay!!! You're not that slow... I remember you used to be pretty fast... :) Glad to have you back in the action! D3's been looking pretty lonely lately... Maybe you can give Metar(Gingiba) some competition at the top of D3. 👍

I will give this a try, and maybe I can get NightmateHunter to drive this week
because this is her favorite track in GT4. But I don't know about the car.
