@Civic_VTi: You might have a point there. However, after detailed inspections of XJ220 pictures and a 1:18 diecast model, I'm pretty certain that it's a single rim. I could be wrong tho.

Back to them hubcaps on racing cars..

Have any of you ever watched an ETCC (European Touring Car Championship) or STCC (Swedish Touring Car Championship) race? Lots of the cars have attached hubcaps, or it's actualy ventialted plates, onto the front or rear wheels:

..which is used to adjust the aerodynamics, and can in some cases improve overall top speed. It hasn't got much effect at low speeds, obviously.

They don't exactly reach speeds of 300 kph, but a good 250-280 kph is normal.
