I've read in a Swedish gaming magazine that Gran Turismo 4 Prologue were really bad.

this is quote:

"GT4 är lika tråkigt som pretentiöst, lika intetsägande som det är svindyrt och ett av de mest menignslösa spelsläppen på länge."

translation:

GT4 is as boring as it is pretentious, as insignificant as it is expensive and one of the most pointless game releases for a long time.

I really hope it will be better when the full game comes out. I'm a GT fan from the first taste and i hope this game won't ruin that.

The main reason everyone is giving it lower rates is because it's basically a beginners guide and welcome to the series. That is what the driving school is for. As I've heard from long-time GT enthusiasts, they've beaten the game within a few hours, or within a day or so. So there isn't much in the game, but it's basically just a preview, a VERY small preview of what is to come in GT4.

Personally I could not disagree more with the review comment, but I think it depends on what you are expecting from Prologue. Its advertised and sold as a 'School' for GT4, its got 64 cars, five tracks, a good range of licence tests and a decent bonus DVD. I paid £16 for my copy and consider it pretty good value (compare it to the price of a new film release on DVD).

It seems that a number of magazines have given GT4 Prologue a hard time and I may have the reason. Traditionally a package of this nature would be supplied only to games magazines to allow the writing of features, usely with a strap-line
like 'we play the game you can't'. Maybe a few reviewers are a bit unhappy that we are getting a chance to experence what they normally only have access to.

It could explain why the review in OPSM2 (in the UK) appeared to have been writen by someone who had not played the PAL release of the game!

BTW the above could be total c**p but its a thought.

Personally I have no regrets about paying £16 for Prologue and have got more out of it than a lot of full price games.

It's good but not great.

The new engine is a big upgrade to GT3 and it's a nice teaser towards what tracks and cars will be in the full version.

If you look at it as a Demo then you will think it's good. If you think it's a game then you will be sorely disappointed.

I went halves with a friend as I couldn't justify spending so much money on a demo.

do you think the "errors" are fixable to the full version?
 
I take the middle of the road view................its not brillant, but its not bad either. You do get basically what you pay for. It was basically a very comprehensive demo that just happened to cost a bit! It was a good taster of what PD was doing at what they were gonna offer us. I think that maybe people felt (after seeing all the recient developments in GT4) that it was somehow inferior. I personally feel that it was a good game but the licence tests did annoy me to a certain degree. I would have given it around 7/10 in my opinion. GT4 will definitely be a 10/10!

No one could say that GT4P is good value for money (Scaff - where'd you get it for £16? - i payed £25 for it!) but for any GT Junkies (i can probably tag anyone cruising these forums with that label :) ) then all GT4 is is a shot in the arm of our favourite poison, something to keep us bubbling over until November.

- Its the least PD could do for us for delaying it for so long!

Anyone who buys Prologue without realising exactly what its for and who its aimed at deserves to be underwhelmed or disapointed.

The only one... was the price... should've been a 5er give away!!

That would've covered the cost of production... in fact I reckon it should have come with a 20 quid voucher for GT4.

...when one of the british mags relesed a one track (Rome), three car (Mitsi Evo, Vette.... can't remember the last) demo of GT2 - i played it for months before the full game came out!!!

So your saying that PS2 magazines cost £5 (using OPS2 UK as example) because the journalism inside is worth that much? And theres me thinking it was for the demo.

I haven't bought Prologue, and I don't plan on buying it. I still believe it should have been nearer £10 than £20. That said I will buy the full version..of course.

Hmm never thought about that, although thats probably because I'm used to downloading demos for PC free. Last OPS2 mag I bought was purely to try The Getaway before I decided to buy it, but of course for £5 or whatever you get other demos too. Its crap you can only get playable demos with official PS2/Xbox mags (which are biased to buggery most the time).

Personally I prefer a 'free' demo like GT2 for £5 (with other demos) to £18 for one 'large' GT4 demo (inwhich most the content will be in GT4 anyway), but maybe thats just me.

Ok, who said it was unplayable and why?
I gave it 4/5. I finished it in 1 day but continued playing it for the rest of the week.
 
As a game that's aim is to teach you how to race and how to handle your car it does very well. It makes no claims at trying to be anything other than a training program. I only paid £17 for my copy, and have enjoyed playing it so far. In fact I've enjoyed it more than I did GT3. It's nice to see visual upgrades within the series, but even better to see how much they have improved the handling of the cars. All they need to do now is sort out that lack luster AI.

Hehe yep I guess so :)

GTC was better value for money though I think than GT : P, you got more 'new' cars, some cool concepts, only 1 new track though (well 2 if you count Pod track) but atleast you had 2 player mode & it seemed quite a polished product too.

I gave GT : P, 4/5 although really I'd like to give it 3.5/5.

Man, you guys are spoiled. ;) I've already put hours into my free Toyota demo, which only has two cars and two tracks, and virtually no options-and I'm still loving it. Appreciate what you got!
 
I paid 42 bucks for my Korean Version and I'm not terribly dissappointed. I knew what I was getting, it was a vivid but compact demo blah blah blah to GT4. The agony of waiting and waiting was getting to me so I had to make the purchase. The moment the disc booted up and the intro came on through my Composite video cables (a step up from s-video) to my 46 inch projectiont HDTV screen, it was bliss. When I saw the imprezza get air and then the screen zoommed out and showed the helicopter, O man, I was drooling and couldn't remove the grin from my face for the rest of the hour. First thing I did was play the New York track and then in the replay of my laps, I pressed the R2 and L2 views and again my jaws dropped even more at how awesome the city detail looked. I imaged myself sitting in the back seat of the car and looking back at the scenery...it was that realistic lookin on my 46 inch tv. This is the best demo yet.

I only wished it wasn't so difficult to get all golds because I want to drive the HSC. I prefer to use the wheel so its making things difficult right now too because I have to get used to the 900 degree mode.
 
My friend brought me prologue from Japan after a few days that it came out, i was fricking exited, and was amazed over the improvements that have been made.

But face it, you cannot give this demo a low score because without doubt that is how the game would have looked like if it was released in winter 2003 and it would have been two times better than GT3, graphicaly, in car physics, and in the score (probably 9.9/10). But now with the extra year of tweaking the graphics engine and the physics engine GT4 is going to look four time better than GT3 (that's why it's GT '4') and 2 times better than Prologue. I hope you get my point.

BreakerOhio---You got Prologue from japan, but your in Ohio, what import did you use? Where'd you buy it, and was it hard to install (i don't want to do any soldering or modding, just a "open ps2, insert here, close ps2, play" type of thing)????

But yeah, even if GTP was a 1/5 or a 2/5, GT4 will be the best game ever created, IMO. Magazine reviewers my a**
