I thought we were able to take 18MP photos of the game in game? How come we cant do that and its only a crappy 1080p resolution?

I don't know about 18mp - but I think you can get to 8mp, certainly more than 1080p anyway. You need to select the 2x option in Photomode and also choose a suitable ratio - 16:9 for example.

I wouldn't say 1080p is a crappy resolution, but anyway, just another lie from PD.

You can on some photomode locations but not in race. Anyway 1080p looks fine as backgrounds.

8MP can be done in the photo travel.

when in photomode set view to 16:9 then the multiplyer to 3x for 16MP or 2x 8MP
i know kyoto can do 8MP, dont know if the others can do 3x which will give you 16MP

but 8MP is still high

what monitor have you got that displays a 8mpixel resolution anyways?

the file is 8mp so if you view on a 1920X1080 the file will be 2x smaller

same thing when u upload photos from a 10mp digital camera

ahhh ok thanks guys, How come it seems when u look at the images on a computer seems their is a bit of loss of quality?

Also can u only export images to the XMB one by one?

Jpeg compression lowers quality when your not viewing in native resolution, it doesnt matter if the picture is 8 giga-pixels it will look horrible if scaled.

when in the photo is in the GT5 photobook select the photo and press triangle then select export to XMB menu

What kind of loss of quality? There could be lots of causes really - compression artifacts (bear in mind the only non 3D option is for JPEG), computer adjustments for your monitor and/or graphics card, the viewing software may be processing the image and of course, the source material/image in GT5 may simply not be that good.

I've noticed some of the background buildings can be a bit blocky but often this isn't noticed until you've looked at the pic for a 2nd or 3rd time.

Hey mate yeah i know that :P

But was wondering if you are able to select more then 1 image to export to the XMB instead of doing it 1 by 1??

I love how you put "1080p" and "crappy" in the same sentence. Does not compute.

that does not look like quality loss

could be reflection, damage or dirt

wash any car before doing photomode

1x = 1920x1080 = 2,073,600
2x = 3840x2160 = 8,294,400
3x = 5760x3240 = 18,662,400

though I haven't seen 3x yet. I don't know if it's an unlock or based on the car you're shooting. I noticed 2x was grayed out when I took a pic of a standard car during replay.

I'm not even going to touch the "do you have an 8mp screen" because they simply missed the concept.

i'll show you what i mean, if you look at this image, take a look at the poor quality on the front grill part of the car..

That quality has nothing to do with the resolution. That part of the model was not built with a texture of high enough resolution. The 2D crowds are an example. They look like crap because they are way lower resolution than what the game outputs.

In terms of 18MP, I haven't found any places that do it, only HD1080 X2 which is 8mp.

/facepalm

Kazunori never guaranteed a 18-20mp resolution (from a year old interviews). Anyway as others already said resolution increases in photomode locations, and you can even set a higher one in camera options.

"1080p" (around 2 megapixels in this case) by today's digital photography standards is, well, crappy. It does compute.

Not sure what you're referring to - are you talking about color banding? That's often down to jpeg compression and that could be caused by the original photo but also by whatever compression imageshack is using for example (imageshack appears to be displaying a 1093x614 image) - check the original replay and see if it's there.

The only other thing I see is some streaking on the black lines running down the center - that is a reflection from the road.
