In this thread I will and would like others to post thrilling arcade race setup recommendations.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Here is what I found out about AI in arcade mode and how I handle it in order to set up competitions that rock:

The strongest measure from my point of view you can take in order to control the opponent's AI is to choose proper cars and - very important - the most suitable tires for them:

I only use cars that I did not tune at all (because the AI also only puts untuned cars into the grid). And I choose tires that match the car's specifics (*). E.g. For the BMW M3 Coupe '07 I choose the hard sports tires.

*) Important: Choosing the tires at the time when you set up the arcade race influences the kind of tires (and even the type of cars) the AI chooses for the opponents. So, if you choose any car with hard sports tires the AI will choose different cars than if you choose the same car with soft sports tires. Changing the kind of tires at the racing screen (after the grid has been loaded) does not influence the opponent cars anymore.

Additional Settings:
AI's aggressiveness (Options Menu): 10
Difficulty: Professional
Driving aids: None except ABS which is set = 1
Grip: Realistic
Fuel and tyre wear: On
Damage: Heavy

----------------------------------------------------------------

Here is the format I would like you to use when posting an arcade race setup:

Car: Name of car
Tires: Kind of tires
Tuning: OPTIONAL: exact level of tuning
AdditionalSettings: OPTIONAL: Anything that differs from the settings above (should be avoided)
Track: Name of track
TrackConditions: OPTIONAL: Time and/or Wheather settings
Laps: Number of laps
Result: Your position at end of the race or DNF for DidNotFinish
StrongestOpponent: OPTIONAL: Car name of the strongest opponent
Comment: OPTIONAL: Any comment about your race

----------------------------------------------------------------

Having said that here are my first arcade race setups that really rocked:

Car: BMW M3 Coupe '07
Tires: Hard Sports
Track: Nürburgring Nordschleife
TrackConditions: Time: 20:00
Laps: 1
Result: 1
Comment: Extremely close finish

Car: McLaren MP4-12C '10
Tires: Hard Sports
Track: Spa Francorchamps
Laps: 3
Result: 2

Car: Lexus LFA '10
Tires: Hard Sports
Track: Cape Ring South
Laps: 3
Result: 3
Comment: damage after collision in round 2

Car: Lexus LFA '10
Tires: Hard Sports
Track: Nürburgring 24h
Laps: 1
Result: DNF
Comment: Crash in last sector on position 1

Car: Lexus LFA '10

What's on with those tags (or rather "tags")?

I just wanted to maintain the race setups in certain format - with the tags I defined it. If anyone has problems with tags he also could provide his setup in such way (example):

Car: Lexus LFA '10
Tires: Hard Sports
Track: Spa Francorchamps
Laps: 2
Result: 3

I like this idea, but I'm just not sure we need a list.

Just about any car left stock on Sport Hard max for street cars or Racing Hard max for race cars against Pro AI set to 10 is going to be about as fun as racing the AI is going to get.

In the rain the AI always seems to use Racing Wets, which is a shame.

I'd drop the tags, they actually make it hard to read (for me at least). Maybe bold instead?

Bold looks great! So bold then!
(I updated the my race setups in the very first post.)

Well, I drove a lot of arcade races and I can tell you that the rule you define above cannot be applied to all cars and tracks. For example:

Driving the BMW Z4 M Coupe '08 on hard sports tires is really challenging on the Nordschleife but winning a 5 laps race on the autumn ring is no big deal at all. Also finding the proper number of laps for a certain track and car is essential in order to create a challenging race.

All of these AI matching problems could have been solved with one simple setting:
Dynamic Boost

food for thought.

Well, there is not a lot of food to think about: PD built a racing simulation which also is reflected in the arcade mode, and I'm glad about that!

Let's stop discussing the topic of AI in this thread now (it is already being discussed in many others, e.g. in this one: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=226761) and start posting race setup recommendations! Here I got two new exciting ones I did last night:

Car: GT by Citroën Road Car
Tires: Hard Sports
Track: 24h Nürburgring
TrackConditions: Time: 4:40 (dawn)
Laps: 1
Result: 1
StrongestOpponent: Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR '08
Comment: Very nice and long chase of a Viper through the green hell in dawn

Car: GT40 Race Car '69
Tires: Hard Race
Track: Cape Ring
Laps: 2
Result: 2
Comment: Nice ride against aggressive opponents

These could work out like fun little Driving Missions to waste a spare few minutes on. Well, they would be if the grid was roughly the same every time you tried it. Any idea if that is the case?

Yes, I have the feeling the grid is roughly the same in case you create arcade races with the same cars / tires / tuning / additional settings.

@ALL: Feel free to not only set up and recommend "fun little driving missions" but also races that can be compared to endurance races with detailed TrackConditions in regards to time / time lapse and weather.
E.g. 20 laps on Circuit de la Sarthe starting at 3:00 with time lapse = 5, 50% weather probability and weather stability = 1

Car: Subaru IMPREZA TC
Tires: Racing Hard
Tuning: OPTIONAL: None (tuning should be avoided) no it shouldn't
Additional Settings: TC on 5, steering wheel from somebody in red, SRF on, a little bit of steering assistence
Track: Autodromo Nazionale Monza No Chicane
Track Conditions: OPTIONAL: A sunny day
Laps: 3
Result: 1
Strongest Opponent: Ferrari 330P
Comment: Low topspeed, lost many times on the straight, hit the limiter all the time, only won because of 4WD

Car : HKS CT230R (Arcade list)
Tires: Sport Soft
Track: Nordschliefe (Weather/Time Change)
Track Conditions: Dry/Clear 0 Chance of Rain
Time: 21:00 or later (optional)
Laps: any number
Result: Never fininshed a 3rd lap
Strongest opponent: S2000 GT1 Turbo (often 2 of them,1 at front of grid 1 mid-back)
Comment: No Headlights, get on the back of the S2000 in mid pack asap and do not let him get away, he will pull away down the long straight leaving u blind for a short time but u can catch by first corner. During day still gives good challenge.

for other races i often let myself fall back to last at the start then work my way back through the field, this gives a little better challenge.

Woooooooaaaaaaaah - I got another nice one:

Gentlemen, start your engines!

Car: Chevrolet 2010 Juan Montoya #42 IMPALA '10
Tires: Hard Race
Tuning: None
AdditionalSettings: You can lower the level of damage - those stockars can take more than just a poke
Track: Nürburgring Nordschleife (Weather/Time Change)
TrackConditions: Dry & Clear / 0 Chance of Rain / Time: 5:30
Laps: 2
Result: DNF (not yet ;-)
Comment: I'm happy the CPU only puts other Nascars into the grid. Using the realistic grip setting really gives you a hard time on this track making each attempt of overtaking to pleasant thrill ride.
