So I'm just curious, I was just about to upgrade my hard drive on the PS3 when I realized it wouldn't allow me to copy the save-game data.

So currently, there's no way for me to transfer the data from my piddly 20-gig drive to the 250 I wanted to put in there? I'd have to start the game over from scratch?

Surely if you could back up your game then people would just dupe their cars, right?

That was what caused the economic meltdown in FM2... it seems to me that it's right to lock the save.

That was relevant in the Forza economy where there was competition for limited resources - primarily LE paints. In GT5 all duping means is that someone else can get built-in content before you.

I don't care who gets to buy the P330 before me, all I care about is that I can protect the things I've already spent time to get.
 
Count me in, the fan in my slim has been going like crazy for the past few weeks I expect it's going to die any day now.
 
I totaly agree with this post 100% because i lost all my save games when my PS3 died and now i back up regulary and with the amount of time people will be putting into this game only to have it all lost will be a bloody nightmare.
 
Yes, it should be changed. If they feel they have to stop save swapping, I'd rather they were locked to our profile. The way they've done it now is daft.
 
not to mention off putting. if you get to max level and get the game how u want it, if u loose your save will you really want to pick up the game again.

even worse is what if you have to send your ps3 for repairs or get another one.

You can but the protected file can only be on 1 PS3 not on both I did this when I got my slim and had to transfer AC2 files.
Need GT5 save on both of my PS3's :nervous:
 
With all the crappy luck I've had with my PS3s (on my third one now and had to replace the hard drive on the second one) I would have NEVER bought Gran Turismo 5 knowing it didn't allow back-up. I have a 16GB thumb drive on order in hopes a full system back up will resolve this, but I'm not holding my breath. Screw Sony and screw Polyphony for agreeing to this ********.

You think you have had bad luck? i'm on my 14th ps3!!! After losing many of my game save i now back them up all the time. I have an 8gb flash drive for this which is not big enough to do a full system back up on.

Having quite a bit of experience in transferring games saves it is possible to lock them to your psn id. Why pd decided to stop you from backing up your game save is beyond me especially when you can just lock it to a certain psn id. This would stop people downloading other peoples game saves but still allow the user to keep his save that he may have spent hundreds of hours on.

In my opinion being able to back up your game save is a big must. Sony/Pd need to address this ASAP

Well yes, if you do a data backup on the ps3 under system, but it has to be restored on the same ps3, it's console locked. So really it's not safe.
 
It will backup the GT5 save game, but if the PS3 then dies you are out of luck as you can't use it on a different PS3.

Even if it did work why should we have to wait ages for a full system backup to complete, when all that needs saving is file that is under 1MB.

We need a way to easily backup game saves... whether online on PDs servers, or by the way of unlocking the game save data (or at least locking it to a PSN account instead of the way it is done right now).
 
I understand why it is the way it is...not sure how they could make it backup without compromising something they dont want to.
 
Yeah my PS3 got YLOD last summer and all my save games were in my flash memory except for some of them that are copy protected like GT5 which sucks.
 
I am all for save data tied to your psn account.

Besides the fact that backups work only for the original ps3 and not a new one, I have not been able to do a backup, and I tried multiple times, always fails at about 98%, even after erasing a lot of unnecessary demos, fixing the file system, etc... I can't believe Sony can't give us a decent backup utility.

Anyway, I hope PD listen to us on this.
 
Backup data on gt5 servers linked to PSN account!
It would be the best way to backup our savegames, without having them shared with other people
 
How many times are we doing this?
We need one large thread to cover this, and of course PD to listen!
 
So is this going to be removed, and we'll be able to back up the saves? If so this is the best news ever and I will officially kiss kaz if I see him in person.
 
No-one seems to take notice so i'll say it once more...There's going to be a patch in late December that will allow us to back up save data.
 
Thanks, cant wait for back up utility, it will stop me worrying, as my lovely old PS3 is getting pretty old.
