Hi guys,

Now, we all know the cars in GT5 are pretty realistic, physics wise and all.

What I would like to know is, are the cars still realistic once we start tuning them?

For example: Would my in-game 800hp Murcielago behave the way it does in real life?

The tuning in GT5 is possible, so technically yes. Though, there is more than one way to get a "800 hp Lamborghini" which is a very vague term.

Ahh okie..

what I meant was.. if my mods were similar to the mods available in GT5...

If I was to drive an 800Hp lambo in real life they way I drive in GT5 I would be up for an engine rebuild/new motor every couple of hundread K's or so.

Meh. The turbocharging upgrades in GT5 are more realistic than previous games (though the comparative lack of options to GT1-4 are disappointing, and there are still far too many cars that you can't equip turbos to), and the supercharging upgrades are arguably more realistic as well (though this depends on the car, because many cars don't gain anywhere near as much power as the should; and, again, the lack of cars that you can equip it to is dumb).

The NA upgrades, however, are a joke. Slightly more realistic than in GT3 and GT4, but still nowhere near as realistic as in GT1 and GT2, let alone games like Need For Speed Underground 2, Tokyo Extreme Racer Zero or Tokyo Extreme Racer Drift 2.

Specifically, GT5 still basically treats NA upgrades as an across-the-board torque multiplier rather than an actual NA tune like the first two GT titles did. And though it increases the rev limit far more than GT3 and GT4, it still basically means that cars that you modify without forced induction will have far more torque at far lower revs than real-life models made by tuning companies. For example, the most you can increase the horsepower peak for most cars in the game is 900 RPM, compared to GT1 and GT2 where the torque curve could (and frequently would) change by several thousand RPM depending on the amount of power you added through NA tunes.

A couple hundred thousand miles seems like an exceedingly good duration for a racing engine...

I'm guessing they meant kilometers.
I don't trust the upgrade system in GT5 at all really. When i first started playing I was installing all kinds of crap on cars but started realizing the hp figures after upgrades (comparing between cars) made little sense. Almost like they were either assigned randomly or through some complex algorithm or something so that the HP figures would work with the PP system properly. I haven't upgraded a car in months it seems like. I'll go back to it someday I'm sure but I'll probably be more picky or at least thoughtful on how I choose what to do.

Yeh I did mean Km's, prob should have been more specific.

What I do normally is purchase all removable upgrades and run the cars stock and then slowly add in what I think will suit the car best for the tune im running. Annoying thing is weight reduction & engine tuning cant be removed.

The upgrade system of GT5 is a complete joke. I have almost 300 cars, only 3 of them are tuned other than the occasional filter or ECU for a HP boost. Whenever i need more power i use one of the pre-tuned cars or a race car, i find insulting that the tuning system is almost the same as GT1.
