Good day everyone!

I have an old ps3 fat. Everytime I race in gt5, be it a single practice lap or a normal race, my ps3 crashes with the red light blinking. Then I have to press the power button at the back for it to restart. This only happens while playing GT5 on a race. It does not crash on the menus, on my other games, while watching a movie (tried dvd). It started happening after the recent update. Anyone else having this problem? Anyone can point me in the right forums or a possible solution?

BTW: I cleaned my ps3's air vents because someone on another forum suggested it but it still crashes.

Thank you!

Red blinking, means that it's overheated. I don't know, if that helps you in any way.

Which gen PS3 do you have? GB?

GT did the same to my fat ps3. The older ps3s cant seem to handle it after sometime.
Youre on your way to YLOD if you dont fix it.

I fixed it myself, by opening up the system and giving it a good cleaning using a unheated hair dryer. And using the PS3 YLOD washer fix. There are step by step tutorials on the web on how to open your ps3 and ylod fixes.

Since i did this, a month or so ago, my fat ps3 has yet to overheat or shutoff.
Purchase a laptop cooler fan and place it under your PS3 too.

Thank you guys for the reply. I'll try to clean the inside of my ps3 since I only cleaned the outside vents. BTW I have a 60gb fat ps3. The thing I can't understand though is why is it only crashing in gt5? I tried playing uncharted 3, fight night champion, and watching a movie but no crash. hmm. Anyways, thanks again.

As far as I know...GT5 is a pretty demanding game and can make the CPU, GPU etc. generate alot of heat. I play my brothers fat ps3 and it gets pretty hot.

You might wanna try replacing th thermal paste like the guy above said, or try putting a fan behind it for a little bit. If neither works its time too get a new playstation 3.

Sorry, I don't have an actual insight into the matter, however, I do have a interesting situation.

Strangely enough, my PS3 runs smoothly with GT5. In fact, I can spend all day with GT5 running and not a single slow down, freeze, or fan blowing too hard ever happens. Honestly.

On the other hand, 3 seconds in L.A. Noire makes my PS3 heat up like a grill, and the fan spin as fast as a blender!

If you have a fat model ps3 and have L A Noire on disc do not play it.
Reason it will kill your fat model ps3.

Rockstar forgot a certain code to let the fan kick in at the right time and other things this resulting in burnt ps3. Trust me on this

Sounds pretty irresponsible... :odd:

Believe it or not. There were a lot of people that had broken PS3s after playing it. It was all over IGN and in a game informer too. Was well known. And i am not sure if this was ever fixed

First off I don't see how y'all have problems with the "fatties". Though I do have a DUMB:censored: moment for ya:dunce::dunce::dunce:. I exchanged my 1st PS3 a 80GB Fat Boy, for another one, a few months before GT5 was released. After what I thought messed it up (endless hours of GTA4 and MGS4.) Since then I have had no problems with my 2 year old Fat Boy(I had no problems with my old system, I later found out my Cable Box was interfering, so I hooked up the Cable Box thru the Cable Jack instead of the AUX Jacks and wa-la no stupid black bar scrolling across the screen:dopey: All in all though, now I cant return this one, if it fails, because I only get one exchange:grumpy:

I Stand by my Fat Boy 👍👍 it runs from 8AM-8PM, I have a job like that:sly:

🤬 Glad I didn't take to that game (because of the PS2 graphics/physics when you drive) the Detective work was fun though.

Oh yeah I hate the slim models because they are cheap and are stripped down compared to the fat models. So i am trying to keep my fat model as long as I can. It is almost 4 years now

4 years good going for the fat model, although I fear your fat ps3 has one foot in the grave by now

I have my 40 gb fat blue ray drive is dead but works bought a slim instead.

Maybe I should get a new drive and have 2 ps3s.

As a contrast, I have a SLIM model. And the game is the digital version.

Reason for this issue not to be fixed, I believe it's because not enough people are being affected. Yes there are a lot of people with this problem, on both the XBOX and PS3. But when it comes down to numbers, it's not enough for them to bother and spend money on a solution.

I fail to follow your post. Some concoles last longuer than others. It doesn't matter if it's on 24/7 or 3 seconds. Once it fails, it fails.

I bought my SLIM because I didn't have any money when the FAT came out. And I'm glad I did. I like the design much better. The HDD was a lot bigger. The PS3 itself is lighter, and consumes less power. And that is the sort of things that makes me happy.

I'm sure you also have your reasons for why you love your PS3, and that's what makes you love it so much. :sly:

Nope it is probably in better shape then most people's slims. Call me anal or whatever but this is how much I don't want a slim.... Every month I take it apart (started doing this after the warranty was a couple months till expiring). I take it apart and clean it with cuetips then put it back together.
Weekly or less I do restore file system manually i do not let it freeze and then do it. And if it freezes i do not let it run that automatically like i said i get to the safe mode screen and manually select it there.

I also do the fan rev up cleaning every week to keep the system clear of dust.

(also if any of you want to know how to do this stuff let me know i have step by step already typed out and the restore file system and the fan rev up will NOT void your warranty)
Also lastly last Christmas I had bought a 500GB WD (western digital) 7200RPM hard drive. And has helped out my ps3 on space. I have over 400GBs of music that has been compressed to about 170GBs and that is on my PS3.

I have seen many of my friends and others through the computer shop I worked for come in to get their PS3 clean. And be only a month to a year old and look like crap compared to mine.

I am pretty sure she will last a lot longer. Pretty certain that it will last at lease 2 more if not more. Hopefully forever but you never know
