I decided to post a guide for people not familiar to how D1 comps run in GT5. This will answer all questions involved to help us all get the most out of our time.

How do I join a comp?

People run D1 comps on GT5 on any given day of the year. Some comps are spur of the moment/ fun competitions. Some official competitions require you to sign up prior to commencement. Some comps limit the power of the cars able to join etc.Have a look around you'll find there are plenty.

Joining a comp room. (manners)

When joining any room made for a D1 comp, you must ask, on arrival,
-if the comp is still joinable
-if you are allowed on the track
- If you're allowed to watch or is the competition a 16 player battle (meaning no room for spectators)

Some basic stuff you should know about.

Courtesy Roll or Speed Match: This is put in place to give everyone a fair run, cars that are faster must ease off the gas on takeoff to allow a slower car to position himself properly for tandem. This is something overlooked often.

Clipping points: These are places on the track that you must include on your run/pass to achieve maximum judge points. (e.g two tyres on rumble strip at apex). These (if any) will be described by the organizer of the comp.

Tandem rules-
LEAD CAR: His objective is simple, drift your best while hitting all the clipping points while maintaining speed & angle. He is not to be pressured by the following car.

FOLLOWING CAR: You are to mirror the lead cars line, Following as close as possible. Contact is a big NO NO. If there is contact you will most likely lose the run/ battle.

"Passing"- Some competitions allow and some don't. Here is some info that you might not know.

ALLOWED: if the driver of the following car can complete a successful pass, he is given the advantage of the run but it is no automatic win. The pass must be completed in a clean manner that does not interfere with the other cars line/ speed/ angle
NOT ALLOWED: No passing, simple.

Judging: It is advised that all judges type their vote so everyone can see. Some rooms are made for mic only but this can make deciding who won a tad harder. Some comps have judges vote after each run, and some comps have the judges vote after the entire battle between two people. For more info on judging and how it is conducted look [thread=4233713]here[/thread]

Any suggestions would be appreciated guy's.

Hey Klevrah,

I like the thread, it's got potential but i feel it's missing something, either that or there really isn't a lot to the comps on GT5.

I'd never heard of the "Courtesy Roll" being called that though, i'd heard it called "Speed Match" and it certainly isn't overlooked.

I feel like there is more to add, but i'm not much of a competition expert. Hopefully more people will see this tomorrow and have more to add.

Being new to the drift community, I have a ton of questions. So, this thread was great for me....thanks a bunch.

yes I was thinking of doing up some demonstration videos to help better explain some of these points. Keep the ideas coming guys.

If anyone can help me out with the videos I'd be pretty grateful. All we will have to do is...

-demonstrate how a good courtesy roll/speed match is executed.
-how to tandem in a battle (acceptable vs unacceptable)
-Pose for a pic to post at the top of this thread.

Nice job so far. Also, you can give exemples of the correct way of starting the run, witch car should be on each side, depending the direction of the first corner.

Nice, the rules however could be changed. Either I haven't put enough time into the drift forum to actually get something solid down.

for anyone who would like to be in thie vids please come to room number : 1472 6118 3701 4256 1160. Just type from GTP on arrival to let me know your there for the vid.
