Wouldnt be so sure on that, That dosnt fit the way the poison dwarf (aka Bernie Eclestone) typically deals with F1 rights. certainly with all the TV stuff, the license covers footage from all the previous seasons as well as the current one, and I'd expect they would do the games the same way.

Of course the Inclusion of past Ferraris is a little different, as Ferrari have always been a bit more througher than the others in protecting their image.

Really hope that a lot of those tracks make it through, though if Silverstone, Brands Hatch & Monaco make it I will be beond happy!

PD can include anything from the teams or manufacturers if they license them. The FOM only has control over the words "Formula 1".

Say PD wanted a Williams F1 car, they would just go to the team and ask. No need to ask Bernie. It would all come under merchandising and marketing.

TV rights doesn't come into it.

I was pretty certain he holds the Image Rights as well as issuing the tv rights. So wouldnt the cars come under that?

Correct, Bernie holds the rights to all the cars and teams of a season. I don't know how long he holds thoes rights for, I'm pretty sure that they are only connected to F1 for so long. But you couldn't go and license a current F1 car without a full F1 license. To race in F1 you sign your cars, logos, team names etc all over to F1. Even the drivers names are licensed to it.

Actually I think they only have control over who uses the F1 logo and name. Unless of course they are set up unlike every other motorsport league where you have to get individual licenses for teams, drivers and tracks.

Edit: this is from Wikipedia about F1 licensing.
Formula One Licensing BV owns the Formula One trademarks; the F1 logo, "Formula 1", "Formula One", "F1" and the "Sweeping Curves device" shown before Grands Prix

Slightly off-topic but was there not once an official F1 game that didn't feature Jacques Villeneuve's likeness? ... Didn't he have his own spin-off or something?

FOM own the formula one image rights, as far as I can make out from the various documents the FIA and FOM have accessible online, it lists pretty much the same stuff that Dave posted. Certainly there is no chance of anything 2009 being included.
With previous years its much harder to say, (this sort of information dosnt appear to be in the public domain), but given the precedence of how they opperate their TV contracts (where certainly the past few seasons were off limits to the BBC to use in clipshows etc before the new contract kicked off because the UK rights to that footage were still owned by ITV (from FOM).

As I mentioned before, Ferrari do get special treatment in this area given the unique nature of their image (which is a probable reason why they have been able to negotiate the rights to the F2007, yet havent done (on prologue) the Honda and Toyota from the same year (which you would have expected given the close relationship PD appear to have with the Japanese manufacturers)

I don't know about his spin-off but F1 97 didn't have Jacques Villenueve when it should have it was something stupid like willams driver one or the canadian during a race.👎
