Before I start I want to say I'm a bass junkie. Playing GT5 is addicting especially with a g25. I play late at night but my stereo system was getting me complaints from my neighbours (bass bro 👍) So I tried just playing it off the TV... eww :yuck:....Tried ear plugs from the stereo and although a little better I just couldnt do it.👎 The mustang sounded turrrbel. So I decided to try and figure out how to get gt5 sounding better on my earplugs to get more bass. I connected my audio cables on my RCA cable to a female RCA to 3.5mm jack. Connected that to my Line-in or Mic on my notebook. Played around with my audio equalizer (mine is IDT HD sound) and seriously if GT5 was a porkchop this is the bacon that goes around the porkchop to make it better. The cool thing about it is that you can tune each car to get em to sound how you want it to on the equalizer. If anyone wants to try this out let me know I can help them out.

That's pretty clever. I used to do this with the music I had on my laptop because my stereo doesn't have good EQ settings.

Do you change the surround sound settings? It makes a huge difference if you pick the right one.

You shouldn't need to mess with the levels to get the cars to sound correct. Sound engineers at Polyphony would have spent a long time setting all the levels to get the cars to sound as close to the real thing as possible. If the Mustang/other cars sound correct through your speakers but not through your headphones then you just need to buy better headphones.

Seriously dude, I have enough trouble tuning cars, without having to tune my audio for each car too..!!

Nice idea though. I only found out last night that you can output sound from a PS3 on multiple sources. At last I can watch films and hear the talkie bits without the shoutie bits busting my ear drums. Using a balance between the TV audio and the surround system audio, I could get both ends of the range without compromising one or the other. Neat...

From a fellow bass junkie i have two words " tactile transducer " , all the bass without the sound ! There are a few different ones available on the market depending how much you want to spend eg buttkicker gamer 2 $300 aus, or for a cheaper option which I use is the aura interactor cusion $60 aus ( it has a transducer inside it which can be removed and hard mounted to a rig if needed, that's what I did ). And If you add a turtle beach headset to the equation ( PX5 is the best) you will have GREAT bass and crisp sound all to yourself without disturbing the neighbours. This is the setup I use and it keeps the wife happy and the sound is great. I was using a logitech x5500 (10 inch sub) and the sound quality is probably better out of the PX5.

Dude, can you post a pic of your setup? I'm searching for it for the past 3 months with no success. Need to know what cable I should be getting.

You're using HDMI, right?

I think I figured it out. Do you set the equalizer to handle with the system audio?

rottenatomy - I use HDMI and RCA cables. i'll post it up when i get home from work.

Cyber_stig_77 - That sounds complicated and I dont know what that is I am a ghetto bass junkie. :D Giggity giggity

Yeah, I was going to suggest this. Although, I've not tried it myself. I want one so I can play around with some home-made effects for car / track interactions etc. so that it feels like you're in a car, not just listening to one.

Be careful what you mount it to, though, as this may radiate sound, rattle or conduct into the floor etc. depending on what frequencies you put into it - you may not hear this over the speakers / headphones. There's no such thing as noiseless ;)

the adapter goes to the computer line in, the other end goes to the external audio on the TV.

Headphones on the TV.

Do you think it'll work out?

Did you set the EQ to deal with the PC system's audio?

For late night gaming I route the PS3/Xbox optical out through my PC (Asus Xonar D2 soundcard) and out through the headphones (Sony 7506). Never bothered with Eq though.. May have to give it a bash, although I figured that generally speaking, GT5 was beyond help with the majority of car sounds.

The real benefit of this setup is having access to the PC music library and game sound simultaneously.
During the day, I just replace the headphone jack with the 3.5mm>RCA going to the amp/speakers.

The same would apply for analogue line in too.

It is better to use directly the PS3 analog audio output (through the AV connector. You will have to enable the multiple audio output setting on your PS3 for it to work together with HDMI video) instead of your TV's. You will have a better sound quality, but a lower signal which might need amplification (depending on your sound card).

Keep in mind that using a PC sound card with standard Windows drivers will induce some audio lag.

Bass was annoying in GT4, every time I went over 50-75mph the wind noise was horrendous! The throbbing bass - even at the lowest settings would still rattle every picture on the walls and every item on the shelves. I'm satisified with how GT5 sounds, I thought PD did an excellent job. I now have no reservations going over 100mph, as my neighbors will not think there's a tornado outside.

Yeah, thats what I think as well.

I'm just intrigued as how he managed to use use the headphones with just a computer, a TV and the ps3.

I use about the same configuration, but with an external USB soundcard in "direct mode" instead. I can't perform any sound processing (not that I'd want any, except maybe noise reduction), but I have no audio lag.

You obviously have no clue at how non-realistic all of the cars sound.

As a bassist, I'm offended. Mainly because I can't slap for toffee nuts.
Nice to hear a Rush song in the visual media that isn't Tom Sawyer for a change, even if it is from the same album... :p

Anyway, I use the optical input on my PC's sound card (PCI X-Fi derivative), and I can perceive of no delay without using any special settings, although I'm certain it's there (it must be), it's just not at all noticeable. USB devices often introduce noticeable latency, and that seems odd given that, on my machine at least, the PCI Bridge and USB controllers are connected to the PCI bus at the same level, so it's possibly a vendor-driver thing (the presence of a "direct mode" might give credence to that.) My "onboard" audio was pretty awful, too...
So yeah, for USB cards, it may be better to go down the "audio-professional" route and not necessarily buy from the "staple" PC-peripheral vendors, since the former usually think about important stuff like latency.

@ Ya Pops: have you got DTS-decoding working on that setup? I've tried various drivers for my card, but they're all full of DRM measures that detect the DTS / Dolby bitstream and silence the input... I have plans to try a USB device instead.

It's actually very simple , the px5 uses the optical connection and the transducer uses either a headphone jack or a RCA jack. Google buttkicker and tactile transducer and you will see what they are . You can even make a DIY tactical transducer out of an old speaker, there are a few vids on you-tube on how to make one .

Y'know, I don''t think I've ever tried... I'll get back to you.

YEAH SO WHAT IF I USE A MARKER FOR MY EBRAKE... DON'T HATE...

hdmi and av cable. In your ps3 settings you gotta goto Sound settings>Audio Connector Output>Scart/Multi AV

Did you know your mic jack is basically like a line-in? Plugged the red and white audio cables to this connector and into the Mic Jack on my notebook. (that cable I'm using is for a Red White and Yellow Cables but I covered the yellow cable because you really dont need it.) Connected my pc speakers normally.

Crappy earphones forgot my good ones at work. Bass is set to MAXXXX obviously...

Play around with your settings. I don't know what kind of Audio Controls you have but I had to enable the mic as a line in. You can listen to music while you play and mess around with the equalizer. Low frequencies are the rumbling sounds and High frequencies are tranny and blow off valves and other stuff.
Hopes this helps.

Sorry if the pics are big.

Thanks. I ended up using my audio interface's line in/out. Since i'm on Mac, I used audio hijack pro's EQ.

Thanks to you something that never crossed my mind worked.

You're kidding right? Have you ever played a Gran Turismo game? Sound is it's first flaw. Having a multi-million dollar (or Euro) system will not correct the vacuum cleaner phenomenon plaguing the GT franchise. Granted, GT5 has the best sound out of the bunch. It still fall short of competitors' games.

If you want bass, get a Buttkicker or something similar.

I use astro a30. It has 7.1 surround sound and its my headset. It. Got proper bass. And cost ÂŁ170. Its a good way to play your music loud without anyone feeling or hearing it.

Slappa da bass

Have you HEARD the GT40? A standard, I should add. I think the cars only sound unrealistic when you tune them, usually. When the cars are stock, they usually sound pretty good, especially in the low RPM range.
