$40 sounds like an excellent deal are there still any on sale?????? :nervous:

No this was a one time deal. I have tried to find more at that price but know luck. I think I may hook up the G25 today to see how it feels. Been using DFGT because they are more comfortable for long secessions.

Kai....

I totally agree, you really do need a passion for cars (not racing, not speed, not computer games, not fancy graphics) to love GT5. Those other aspects help obviously, and no doubt make the game worth a purchase, but if you truly love cars then GT5 transcends into something different, something almost unexplainable.

I'm more than happy with it, but a livery editor would still be most welcome in my book. Not everyone with Forza painted mickey mouse and anime ;) I spent a good 30+ hours perfecting some lovingly crafted designs on my favourite cars and couldn't have been more proud with the outcome.

I think you hit the nail in what i'm trying to explain as a foreigner to the english language! GT5 is exactly like that and yes, same on the second part. i hoped the RM would actually have a bit of editing in it. Oh well... :)

Eh, it's alright for racing. Never really feels like you own the cars, menus are sterile and hospital-like... it's definitely more focused on the event than the cars.

Mate, that's exactly GT's philosophy, that's how it should be. Man i would hate seeing glitter and glamour and dancing icons wich would all look like a "i wanna design a logo for a company on my first 3D-class" turning around thingie...
The menu's are perfect!.. For me personal that is... :)

Thats exactly why ...I would pay for shipping. :sly:

The problems I have it with it can be updates or DLC, but they still don't take away from the 11/10 I'd give if I where a game reviewer.

Standard cars, I just wish we could have cockpit view for all of them. They don't have to be super detailed to start out with, just get the big details. Then get the rest of the details to make them premium cars later (future updates?)

The damage isn't that realistic. I know this id PD's first attempt at damage, but it isn't even close to realistic. It's good for me because I'm not that good, but still.

Then there's the choice of cars. There' like 30 different Mazda MX-5s and 15 Honda Civics but no Porsches (could somebody explain that to me, I know there's got to be something wrong between PD and Porsche). No Aston Martin DBS? No Aston V12 Vantage? No Bugatti EB110? Only one Maserati (the Gran Turismo S)? No 2010 or 2011 Mustangs? No *insert lots of other cars here* I don't mind PD being Japanese biased since they're Japanese, but still.

Then my last complaint is the options when customizing your own online lobby. I made one called "Lamborghini Fest" and I obviously wanted it to be only Lamborghinis. I also wanted it to be just ones people bought, not the Gallardo from the recommended garage. This was the first lobby I made (and only one as of now) and I didn't know you couldn't set limits on the make (dealer). It ended up being me in my Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV, a guy in a Mclaren MP4-12C, and a guy in something else (can't remember). I just closed the lobby after not that long.

Agreed.👍

That's what a truly great game does.

What has really impressed me above all else is the increased sensation of speed. In GT4, I would tackle the Nordschleife with fairly reckless abandon and turn in a good (for me) time. Now, the track feels so much more claustrophobic as the scenery starts to blur and shake at 150+. Blasting through it is a white-knuckle affair, as trees and shadows frame my tunnel-vision.

I know what you mean. I went from the fastest car I drove in the game being a Honda Civic Type R (first car) to a Pagani Zonda R (arcade). Boy was that a mistake. It was on the Nuburgring GP Circuit and I was off at almost every corner. Plus it just felt so much faster with the noise, the vibrations, the blurring of the scenery, everything. It was seriously scary to drive.

I did notice that as well the sense of speed improved greatly.....Slowly but surly I think this game will shape up.

But what about damage? One thing that Gran Turismo always does well is delivering attention to detail. The series is sometimes called "cold" and "clinical" — something I disagree with very much, because there is passion and love in this game. There is so much love here that even with the addition of damage, Polyphony still feels like it's not interested in wrecking its virtual autos. When players hit other cars, there is an empty, dull thud — not the sound of metal hitting metal. While more realistic damage is unlocked later in the game, Gran Turismo is not about wrecking cars. In fact, many of the game's challenges and tutorials are geared to teach players not to hit other cars (or orange cones). A basic principle of driving is not getting into a wreck, and that's something that Gran Turismo takes to heart. Arcade racers may be all about the crash — and that's fine — but GT is about not getting into crashes, going slow into the corners and coming out fast.

I am really loving this game right now, but it's still missing a lot. So much so, that I've finally decided to buy an Xbox strictly for Forza 3 and the upcoming Forza 4. Then, my love for cars and racing games will be fulfilled.

I have a feeling Gran Turismo 6 will be the best racing game ever, but right now there's just a few things missing from GT5. I'll be a GT fan for life, and GT5 will keep me busy for quite a while, but sometimes it feels as though Kaz misses on obvious things...like engine sounds. How do you get that wrong when much smaller games get it right? The lack of really hot premium cars, stuff like that.

I'd give GT a 8/10.

Having damage in a sim like Forza is not about wrecking cars. It's about punishing players for not driving cleanly. Having damage in a sim makes it so you can't just take the inside corner and bounce off of cars to pass them and take out competition or ride a wall at 200 mph. Its about having consequences for over aggressive driving just like in real life. Not only does damage affect your car's performance making it harder to win, but the repair bill cuts into your earnings making you NOT want to crash your cars.

Hopefully I'm not completely out of things to do when I get to level 40 when full damage is unlocked in GT5.

Kinda of sick of people mentioning GT6. Get it through your heads that game is @ lease 3 years away with MASSIVE !!!! Improvements with updates in between with GT5.

The driving part is beyond great in this game. The rest, on the other hand, will need a little more work before it is finished.

lets clarify, the tarmac driving is good. The rally is horrible, drifting didnt seem much better.

I'm a driving instructor for RPDE and I race sprint cars to late models, so maybe I have high expectations. I just think PD spent to much time on quantity instead of quality.

If you don't have a genuine love for cars then this simulator may be misunderstood. Personally I love cars and everything about them. Old cars new cars it doesn't matter to me. I was out shopping one day at my local Sam's club and I noticed DFGT wheels on sale for 40 bucks. I couldn't believe it. I called every Sams club within reasonable driving distance (400 miles) and ended up buying 12 of them. I also have a couple G25 wheels as well. My point is just sitting down and driving does it for me. I don't see this as a game. It's a life style for me.

The physics are so perfect. Being able to fill up a garage with cars I will never be able to drive on tracks from all over the world does it for me. Is GT5 perfect. Depends on who you ask. It is for me. Gt is a evolving thing. Try to imagine the time and effort that has went into it so far. All the people who have dedicated their entire life to perfecting the GT experience. Some things will have to be left for another day. Kaz is a genius in my book. Not because he created GT. But because he even attempted to create the racing experience.

I love that he does not allow the GT community to dictate what GT will ultimately become. Our input is good but imagine if he tried to implement everything we wanted. GT would not be the same. Look at the intro for example........

to be continued almost level 22 B-spec 14

is it possible for you to sell me one of the DFGT for $50? i've been looking for one but it's too pricey for me. i want to experience the full driving feeling though. pm me.

The game is perfect in my book too. Not because it's objectively perfect but because of the whole experience. Sure there's graphical issues, bad shadows, spray and glitches but...

Playing this game with a wheel, in glorious 3D has totally blown me away. I just can't get enough of how awesome this is. It's so cool that it allows me to pretty much ignore the graphical issues everyone is talking about. In one aspect it even 'cures' things because one of the most pressing issues (excessive tearing) is actually not / barely visible when running in 3D mode. I see it a lot in 2D but not at all in 3D anyway. I've been playing Forza 3 to death in the months before GT5's release but to me it doesn't hold a candle to this insanely awesome experience.

Playing this game in 3D alone in my book makes buying a 3D TV worth the money. Once you get your settings tweaked right it's an out of this world experience that has to be seen to be believed. Absolutely epic.

hmm, i can kind of disagree with some people about the wheel. i think its possible to be an excellent driver with a controller. if you set the acceleration and brake to l2 and r2 then you dont have to spam down a button to brake or brake/accelerate slowly. im sure a wheel would make the experience more realistic but i still think its possible to be amazing with a ds3.

i still think its possible to be amazing with a ds3.

I'm sure it is, but here's the thing...

Virtual reality has been a kind of holy grail of video gaming since it began. The trick is creating a game that captures the detail of the real world, and providing a convincing interface.

IMO, one of the reasons driving games have become so popular, is that they are uniquely suited to fulfilling these requirements. The physics of racing, while complicated, is limited. And the interface can be captured with a wheel and pedals.

I know it's fun playing GT5 with a DS3, but when you get a wheel and set it up right, you really are driving the cars, the sensation is incredible.

Agreed. The physics are great along with the graphics. Everything else puzzles me. Mainly the tracks. I can't believe the amount compared to GT4. To the original post. I assume this is the first in the series you have played. This game is far from perfect in my book. In fact I am very disappointed for a product that has been in development for 5-6 years.

I've been a video gamer since Pong. GT5 is as close to perfection as it gets for me. It is elegant, well-polished and engineered by people who love cars and racing. What more could you ask for?

i think the previous game is a lot better and theres less confusion with the car tunning like you see here people posting about tunning gear ratios and it either doesnt exist in the game or you have to unlock it and so far i havent seen a single person unlock it and race qualification messages are not specific enough like in the last game it actually said how much your car has to weigh in order to get into the race this time around it doesnt and instead of German cars it says Germany like what about Germany? btw most cars handle the same with especially suspension its like theyre all on sterroids and perform so well like the trucks have almost no spring extension like all the other cars in the game and they handle really well and easy to drive
