It seems that the left and right rear view mirror's in GT5 reflect the wrong side. Someone over at PSFOCUS first mentioned it. I have to check it myself but I checked some youtube video's and it seems inverted in different video's I watched.

You can see it really well in this video too. The right rear view mirror reflects the left side of the track and the left rear view mirror reflects the right side.

Looks like it might be the case in that video. However, it they work properly in cockpit view then it really doesn't matter.

it's caused by the same design flaw that also occurs when you sit in a car with lot's of chrom parts in the interior and those parts reflect the race ground, and not the actual interior. Those mirrors should normally reflect the car, but that doesn't work in GT5, there is no self environmental mapping, so they 'just' do reflect the environment.
So, no worries, no bug. But also don't expect this to be fixed anytime soon at all.
Just think about this: How much processing power is needed for reflecting the reflection of the reflection in the reflection...

It wouldn't look that awkward if they simply switched left and right mirror's. So you're saying they don't take the car into account, just like 2 floating mirrors? I tought this too but it doesn't seem quite right if you look carefully.

This doesn't work. The right mirror reflects all that can be seen if there would be no car in between. So everyting on the leftside of the environment. Actually the mirror works great. There is just no car visible.

And the left mirror reflects everything it can see aswell. And that would be the right half of the environment.

As mentioned before, there is no self environmental mapping, that means, no reflection of the reflection...

Also you can't swap mirrors... that's ehm... what? You really didn't get, it right? That would really mess up everything.
Imaginge the mirrors to be visible, while the car itself would be a 100% invincible, stealth car, then everything would be correct. You should also consider that you look at the mirrors from a different angle then when sitting in a car.

If you really want this to be fixed, then you should see in the right mirror nothing else but the right window and right car shoulder.

example how it should work:
