I plan on buying GT5 on Friday, should I buy a new game or preowned?
Not sure what DLCs I may miss out on if I buy a second hand copy.

Cheers

Just get it 2nd hand, buy dlc of psn.

There's no online pass for GT5, so buying used won't lock you out of any game modes or DLC. 👍

Just get the xl edition it comes with all the dlc and patches so you won't have to waste time downloading all that data

Cheers guys.
After reading your posts might as well get a second hand copy and buy some dlc's.
Now Dom00000 has suggested the xl edition but might be a bit pricey.

If you have online; the second hand copy will immediately update (might take a while) to a spec which is more up to date than XL anyways - and you save money which you can spend on the DLC.

Edit: I didn't realise XL came with all the DLC, I thought it was just DLC Pack 1?

Edit 2: I've just looked it up - comes with DLC 2 aswell.

I was also going to suggest the XL version, but then I found this from a user on Amazon's UK site:

GT5 XL has all the updates to 2012 and makes the game much easier to play than the original year old disc.
You can buy tyres and most parts at the race courses now, and it's easier to tell the power of each car in relation to other cars. You can even see if you already have the car in your garage that your contemplating purchasing. But, If you buy this GT5 XL version of the game, you will not be able to download the purchases you have made at Sony Entertainment if you live in Europe.
So No Car Pack 2 and 3, Racing Car Pack, Track Pack, or the Speed Test etc.
Taken from Sony Information Sheet :-
< If a user who owns the North American disc purchases the DLC's (Down Loadable Content) with an account that has a UK address and location, they will not be able to use the DLC using the North American disc. >

It looks like it wasn't released in the UK. So, I would get the Platinum edition of the original for under 15 pounds and just get whatever DLC you want separately.

With XL, you get all the update and DLC when Spec II was released as well as a voucher for the next DLC.

I don't know which next DLC since I bought all the DLC prior to purchasing the XL disc (I had the regular version as well). I'm hoping to be able to use it when Twin Ring Montegi DLC is released (hopefully).

+1 👍

Yes forget suggestions of XL, it's not out in the UK.

Platinum it is then.
I can't wait:cheers:

Buy a new one, I bought a 2nd hand and after a while it kind of freezes at the main menu, problems occur i had mine for about a year I kept it in perfect condition no scratches but a new copy would last longer. I would go with a new one it may save you money but it will last longer you do not now what the previous owner did to it.

By the way nice avatar!

As previous posters stated, I would get the new copy if it comes with any of the DLCs(in your region). If not, get a used copy but look carefully at the disc because a lot of people who sell games usually try to dump scratched or damaged discs. Hold it at an angle to the light and wipe off any debris so you can clearly see the etching. I've had a lot of bad luck with "reliable" new & used shops locally and they'll try to dump off a bad copy any chance they get.

It's been quite cheap to buy new for ages now, prob not much cheaper 2nd hand.
Buy it new, that way u support the developers who worked so hard, if not so smart, on the game.

As long as your buying from a reputable shop getting a used copy shouldn't be an issue. I use Game Stop here in the U.S. and they've never had a problem with replacing a used game copy at no cost if I find it has an issue. As long as the disc isn't physically damaged they should last virtually forever. If you start to have issues with a game you've more likely either got corrupted files or hardware issues with the PS3.

Same I bought used copy from Game Stop.

Buy it used you save some money and you can buy the DLC from the Playstation Store

Just so you know, if you pan on installing the game * ten gigabytes* do not update it, install the game while logged out of the psn and install it, then log in the the psn after your game is fully installed and update it! If you don't do this your gonna have a bad time!

16 Updates if you buy used...
