It has once again been confirmed that Gran Turismo 5 will feature a day and night cycle, as well as a weather system.
Monday, 28 Sep 2009 17:06

We were worried that neither the previously promised weather system, nor the talked about night & day cycle would be featured in the final release of Gran Turismo 5. But we have now been corrected.

According to French website JVN.com, Gran Turismo 5, unlike Forza Motorsport 3, will not only have a decent day & night cycle, but it will also feature rain. The website visited Polyphony Digital's studio in Japan, where the revelations can be read before the interview.

It is also explained that tire degradation will be accurately recreated, all depending on the quality of your driving and the temperature of the rubber.

Damage will also be featured on all cars, but in two different models. For regular cars you'll only be able to scuff the paint and create minor damage in particular areas, whereas racing cars (WRC and NASCAR specifically) will feature "full" damage with doors and bumpers flying off, as shown in these screenshots.

Gran Turismo 5 will release on 31st March 2010 in Japan, and slightly later in the US and Europe.

But the IGN interview completely contradicts what is said here. I dont like these interviews. I dont know what to believe.

wtf! i guess means more delays for implementing those stuff..lol..yaaay for weather if true!
Can someone confirm this? again

As a journalist, i hope that the UK website called JVN before posting this. If they did, and JVN CONFIRMED the news than folks, we just can celebrate because it's the best we can get before videos showing that.

ditto.

Nothing like that has officially been confirmed in a written press release or conference. Therefore, it is all rumour.

i searched about this and every websites say its confirmed ..hmmm

there is a video interview on the site ..take a look and does it have the indication in it..?

Last time I checked, websites were not official sources of information. All of these interviews were open to translation errors, and clearly not all agree.

You do realize that it is the Japanese translator doing the translations & not the journalists right?

So, basically it's not the journalists fault if there's contradicting information because they get their info straight from KY's translator. The answers they get are in English.

Where would the variation occur? The translator? Not likely. KY's answers, more probable.

Yamauchi: on Weather and Day/Night Cycles
“We can implement it, but we don’t know whether we will put it in or not. Even for damage, it only took us two months to get it where we’re at, and if we really wanted to, we could enter time changes and stuff like that, but it really depends on how it will affect the quality of the game.”

You must have a different meaning of the word confirmed than the rest of the world. That is not confirmation.

EDIT: Changed thread title

Weather hasn't been confirmed, nor has a livery editor. They're both a possibility to appear, but they cannot be considered in GT5 as of today.

It's not but he's giving us a good source. IGN's answer was evasive, but JVN material was more in-depth. It was not on the video, but based on what they talk with KY before recording. Could be a mistake, but now this british website contacted (seems like) JVN and confirmed that KY told the JVN crew that those features are in. That explains why the website is using the term "exclusive GT5 info".

Now IGN, he just said, could it be, maybe... didn't denied or confirmed.

So we have one confirmation, another source confirming the confirmation and one source saying that it could be.

I understand your reasoning, but it's more probable than doubtful, which is good.

So pretty much they can put it in and it is possible but they have to optimize the game to run with it on.

Well they better put it in, GT5 without weather & day/night sounds just pointless to me.

I'd like to think Kaz is holding back some information. If you watch his face during the customization and weather questions, it's as if he blushes like a little kid who realizes you found out about his secret stash of cookies. He smiles and giggles. I think that's a good sign for weather, customization (possibly a livery editor)

JVN sent a famous Super GT race driver. They have footage they had to blur. Yamauchi got a signed model car from him. (it's usually the other way around).

They explicitly said "rain is in", "day/night cycle is in". No nonsense, straight to the point. It's in.

I believe them. Not Yamauchi who said "we have plans" but was at the same time laughing his ass off thinking "if only you knew what we have already".

just confirmed- day/night cycles as DLC in 2011

Seriously, can we chill out on the "confirmed" word for a while. I might get PTSD after this.

edit- I was 1 post toooo late.

If it isn't directly mentioned in a features list, by a rep from Sony/PD, or by a respectable source that has been in direct contact with Sony/PD, it's not confirmed.

More importantly, why would Kaz "reveal" things like weather and a day/night cycle to an obscure gaming site and then contradict himself in other interviews?

I really think at this point I'll believe it when I see it. Even if they could just add one of those features I would be a happy man. Both would be cool but a day and night cycle would be awesome.

Couldn't agree more. Looks like Kaz got soft when he saw the Super GT champion and gave jvn the juicy info. Definitely the right move from jvn!

However I must say "confirmed" is still too soon. Looks like it's in, to the point you can get hyped about it already without much risk of being disappointed but "confirmed" seems a little bit too certain.

EDIT: Don't forget how the guy asks about the G force graphic they had in a version running there (probably to check their own physics engine) and the guy asks if it will be in the final game. Kaz then asks him if he wants it in the final game. The guy says he would like it to, and Kaz answers it will be in the final game then. Hard to tell if it was just a joke or if Kaz was actually amazingly soft on the guy. We will know in 6 months lol.

EDIT 2: The blurred out footage seems to be from Nurburgring.

I don't think it's the Nürburgring,
because in the same video , Nürburgring footage isn't blurred out.

Maybe its not about the track ... its whats going on there ?!

Yeah, I paused the video at a certain moment, the screen with the 3:40 on it..
and whe they zoom out you see a little of the nürburgring track layout in the left.
Indeed.. Guesst they are showing something ON the nürburgring that we may not know yet.. But what, I don't know...

But it would be very weird to blurr out footage of the Nürburgring otherwise.

I really think this is something that wasn't supposed to be brought up and advertised at this time. When KY was asked directly about it to the camera he danced around the question like he did with most of the direct feature questions.

It's very very likely to appear in GT5 but really it isn't confirmed and there is a change we will get a big dissapointment if we treat it that way.

Personally I don't believe we will see weather or day night cycles ( but I'd be surprised if there weren't night races ).

KY flat out said that they those things aren't in the game but that they "could" be or that they "can" do it. But he talks like that ALL THE TIME. He doesn't ever want to say something is for sure not there. He just chooses his words carefully, so if it winds up in the game, Great. But it it doesn't and you go back to the interviews you will see that those features were simply things that they "could do" that they were "thinking about."

People have an AMAZING ability to twist his words into meaning exactly what they WANT them to be.

I remember what happened with the whole Track list ( infact it's still going on ). People just can't accept it. "20+ locations with 70 variations" got turned into "60 tracks confirmed with 20 more to be revealed" or "20 countries with 70 tracks in each country" or "70 locations with 20 photomode locations"

It's just ridiculous.

Whatever the outcome of this i´m inclined to belive JVN site for this as they where the only ones bright enough to send a fellow petrolhead instead of these so called games journalists, and it looks like it worked, as Kaz seemed to soften up quite a bit and likely showed some stuff he wouldn´t have otherwise, i´m suprised that so many here are surprised with this turn of events, this makes me belive there is quite alot of stuff in there that will remain a secret until reviews and even after that you might catch a surprise or 2 in there, yes yes some will be dissapointed no matter what they manage, but lucky for me overall Kaz hasn´t let me down yet.

@ Simple Sim maybe you need to check to who he said what, towards most sites he has been evasive in most questions while it seems one site surprised him and just maybe managed to get him excited for a change in an interview.
