GT5 Quick Tune: ***VERSION 3.1***

Well the extra step I have to take is if I want a premade tune, I have to pull it from the tune zip file and place it on my desktop so I can find with my software. All the files in the tune zip folder are made for microsoft exel.

Sounds like you'd be better off extracting all the files from the zip file and placing them on a folder on your computer. That way you'll be able to access them directly and also not have to wait for the file to be extracted.

Great Tune , the dodge 440 RT you´ve sent me yesterday. Thanks a lot. It´s very round and very well balanced. I take it for a drive around Laguna seca ,thinking about some 2 or 3 laps, but i just could not stop.
The sensation, the engine noise also are so good.... You need to publish this tune, it´s a car that everybody must have in his garage.
Congratulations.

So have you ha any luck with the rally type section on your program?

Still very much a work in progress, unfortunately. Been a bit busy with life and such, and haven't been able to devote as much time as I would like to.

Thanks a lot, and thanks for your work in the 400PP Nur shootout. 👍

I've learned something today: The measure of horsepower comes in two favours. Imperial HP is actually higher than metric HP. I was confused by this when setting up the car for this week's WRS time trial: The spec said 466hp but my car was only 459hp.

From Wikipedia: 'Metric horsepower, as a rule, is defined as 0.73549875 kW, or roughly 98.6% of mechanical horsepower.'

Now this won't have much effect on low Hp cars, but for higher powered cars this will have an effect.

I don't think the calculations are precise enough to warrant separate horsepower inputs similar to the torque field, even on high horsepower cars. It might make a difference of 0.01 degrees of rear toe and maybe alter the lower gears by less than 0.010. Better to keep it simple and not confuse people, I would think.

That's good to know that the difference would be so small as to be insignificant. But it is good to be aware of this outside of the QuickTune spreadsheets/app if someone is talking about their car having 10 or more HP than yours.

Yea, ^^ keep it simple because I'm already having a hard time understanding what you guys are talking about, but hey I'm only 15.

I'm with you on that!

oppositelock your inbox is full sir. I was going to send you a PM but I guess I'll have to post this here:

I was just browsing your quicktune thead and I think the idea fits in very well with my site (formula-digital.com). What I'd like to do is build it into my site functionality. Instead of needing to use excel people could just add values into the site (without needing to register or anything) and have them displayed on screen. Actually just thinking now I could also save them automatically for them to come back and view whenever they like, or share, whatever.

Of course I'd credit you with developing it, provide your details along side it etc. What do you think?

I'm interested in this, but downloaded it (in a safe place) and immediately got a Windows Security Center trojan.

Mind cleaning it and uploading it again, or, better yet, putting it in Google docs?

There's you problem. Get yourself a better virus scan & firewall. :sly:

@OP: you can ad the info to the OP that if someone don't trust your files, they can scan the file online & for free on: https://www.virustotal.com. It will scan the file with 41+ virus scanning engines. It can't be more secure. :D

Please clean the calculator up and post it on a more reputable website. Three different virus detection programs identified malicious content. The most notable of which being Viper anti-virus which I trust completely. Please fix. Thanks!

I'm sceptical about this: MediaFire is a reputable host, scans for viruses when the file is first uploaded (using BitDefender) and I can find no trace of virus in this file: I've scanned it using Symantec EndPoint, Microsoft Security Essentials, Kaspersky and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware. Plus uploading it to the virustotal site, as recommended above, finds nothing. The virustotal site claims it scans with 43 anti-virus scanners, including Vipre. Nothing found. It may be worth doing a deep scan on your computer just to be on the safe side.

Aye aye, el Capitan. Will do.

Also, change your file associations so that Office Suite is the default program for .xls files.

Yeah, thanks for the tip. I had my dad help me with it, I'm into computers and all, but I'm not very good at it so yeah I got them to run Office Suite as the default so I shouldn't have any more troubles with that.

Hey oppositelock, I think I have figured out a way to tune cars for rally. My initial thought/idea was that dirt&snow tires have about the same amount of grip as sport tires. So, I decided that I would test this idea on a non-rally car. My experimental car that I picked was a

Specs:438HP/7200rpm, 373ft-lb/4800rpm, 1239kg, 53/47 weight balance.
In the program, I entered all of Specs and suspension parameters, and in the handling adjustment I set the suspension level to 2(to check my grip theory), left the camber angle at 2.0, and in the LSD strength I set it to 3 for more grip on the gravel and snow. In the transmission ratio adjustment, I unfortunately I have forgot the settings, but I made sure that the gears were at a closer spread for quicker shifting. I tested the settings on several track with amazing results. Hopefully this will help you in the creation of the rally part of your program.

Hey oppositelock,

I absolutely love the tuner, it helps out a lot. I just tried to make it a little easier to find the information you need. I know it's not a huge improvement, but i would very much appreciate your opinion on it. To use it just go to cell GHI 1 and choose the drivetrain and transmission speed using the drop down list.

Once again thanks for creating the tuner, and thanks to RABBIDMAGGOTT for the improvements he made, and anyone else who made contributions.

Resurrected from the dead!

Glad you find QT useful. Unfortunately my desktop took a dump and the worthless spreadsheet app on my Kindle apparently doesn't support drop downs among other things, so I can't fully test your version at the moment. As soon as I get a chance I'll take a look, possibly this weekend.

I want to access it with my windows phone, which has Microsoft office built in ( with word, excel and PowerPoint ) but when I download/ import the file and try to open it, it says it cannot open a password protected document, and closes it out, can you look into this problem? Because having that on my phone, since I cannot get the app, would be amazing, since I cannot seem to figure out how to correctly tune my cars, and the once or twice I tried it on my old laptop ( now dead, sadly ) It worked miracles.

I gave version 3.0 a try at opening, and it opened right up after downloading. I will use it until you figure out why 3.1 is pass protected.

That's odd, as both versions are password protected if I remember correctly. Perhaps try using a different program to open it. Some users had similar problems with the PC version of Excel that they bypassed by using Open Office.

I tested out your version, Myles, and thought it was interesting. It made me think consider adding a drop down for the tracks as an addition to the user notes section. Thanks for sharing.👍

I would love to try a different program to open it, but you see, my laptop is broken, and I have a windows phone ( Lumia 900 ) and it comes with Word, Excel, and an odd version of Powerpoint built in, and I am trying to open it on my phone, it reads the file when I hit download as a excel file, as it should, but then just before it opens, it calls it password protected, and closes. I would like to be able to open it here on my phone, since it is my only means of accessing it.

IF you can help me get a working version, i would probably use it to do a lot of setups on the cars I have, and record them, to give to you to add to that tune sheet you have. ( and i have around 448 unique cars )
