GT5 Rally HUD map display ARGH!

I searched for every term I could think of, and couldnt find a relative thread.

Anyhow, I'm currently doing the GT rally special events, and is there a way to remove the map from the HUD (heads up display) or at least move it to where its not in the middle of the dang screen? Who's bright idea was that?!

From what view are you driving?

The map wasn't in my way when I was driving from the bumper cam of my VR-4 Galant.

There is no way to move it that I have found. Though, if you choose to have it set as far zoomed out as possible, then it is less conspicuous!

What is more annoying is, that it occasionally resets itself to the default view, and you have to enter the options (where it was as you set it), then exit without changing anything to get it as it should be... :grumpy:

I think you can remove it, but you cannot move it away from the middle. It's annoying as hell, but every now and then you need to take a glance at the map, because the co-driver will sometimes tell you about corners too late.

I can see the idea behind it, i.e. you need it more than on a looped track, and because it might be different every time, but why EXACTLY level with the horizon??

There's especially one situation when you have a tightening corner, that he will tell you "Right, 7" and you go flat out, and right when you already started entering the corner he tells you "Right, 2". If you haven't looked at the map before and saw that there's a sharp corner ahead, you're dead meat.

You can remove the map. Before the special stage starts, go to options and set the map "off".
The annoying thing is that even if this is your default setting, you still have to go to the options and turn off the map before every single special stage.
Doing this makes things a tad tricky, as others have said, because the co-driver isn't quite reliable (i.e. too late).

I've had times when it has stayed off for the whole rally, but most of the time it does turn itself back on, even if you go into the menu and it says off. Bit buggy I think.

It adds to the realism a bit for me having it off, but I tend to run a few seconds slower because it can be hard to judge the corner, especially the blind crest running right into a sharp corner the game seems to love making (I think if someone actually built a road like that the accident rate would be appauling.)

I understand you hate it but I see why it is there. Considering how poor the co-driver commands are (Dirt 2 you can almost drive with your eyes closed, not so here), life would be much worse without it. IMO

I wish it was on the side like it is in every other event.

I'm totally crossed eyed because of the damn thing now.:yuck:

I ended up turning the thing off and hoping the co-driver is sort of close to the right call. 👎

How did that work out for ya

I dont understand why its there. In theory I do, but its not hard to glance to your left to see the map. I've just learned to look trough it.

Out of all the things w/ GT5 this really struck me as the most bizzare HUD design choice I've ever seen. I've never seen a racing game with a map displayed smack in the middle of the driver's view like that! If only turning it off wasn't bugged it wouldn't be such a big deal but having to turn it off every time is soooo irritating.

I have that problem going slightly uphill straights into a blind corner that you can't see where you are going because of the map.

It is so annoying. Why can't it be in the corner?

I dont use maps either way, but for rallying the thing that works the best is color coded arrows of varying degrees at the top center of the screen, combined with the pacenotes it does the job.

The maps in rally in GT5 are a disaster...

Is is possible to make the map as zoomed out as possible to maybe make it a dot in the middle of the screen. I'm not sure what would be more distracting...

Personally I set mine to 'fix to car' and have the scale set to 9, then its not so 'in your face' and you can still see corners coming up that the nav points out too late, sometimes I don't even notice it, I do see the need for it as every stage is different but I turn it off on the actual tracks in game.

I hated it at first but Im kinda used to it now, its really helpful too as I dont have any in game sound so my co-driver is extra weight to me.

I guess turning it off and having it pop up again in the next stage (when it still says 'off' in the menu) is a bug but why would the designers put it in the middle of the screen when there is a perfect spot for it on the LHS?

WTF is wrong with these people, do they have any common sense at all?

I guess I'm the only one who likes it. It's an HUD right smack in the middle of the screen exactly where an actual HUD should be, if i focus on the road it just goes away, when i need it's right there! perfect.
