GT5 Review scores (Update :Average metacritic score)

I considered GT5P the biggest spoiler in gaming history and think you're all slightly foolish for muting your first real next gen simulation experience by easing yourself into it slowly rather than jumping straight in with something as epic as GT5 :)

I actually feel like GT5P felt more like a real (small) game than GT5 is shaping up to be... with GT5 you get a lot more content, but a lot of it seems to be half way done and makes GT5 look a lot like a demo for GT6.

My impressions to this point, which includes commentary from the early play crowd, is that I have to agree with your assessment 100%.

Possibly after tomorrow and several hours of personal play, I will be of a different opinion. So far though, I don't see anything to spark the anticipation of that happening.

I can't help further commenting that the extremely long dev time on this game, in conjunction with what apparently could be accomplished in that time, practically sealed the fate of GT5 to that of "less than expectation".

You do realize this site and practically everyone on here, is a product of previous GT installments?

Consequently, since there has never been an online feature in a previous GT installment, "the game" could be about something significantly more to many of us, than just the online feature.

So you all get more, and that makes Prologue a more "complete" product? How about no weather, no rain, no time change, no nascar, and no standard cars? Would you all have liked it "more" then? You guys are complaining about nothing.
 
Translation:

Car Selection: GT 4 : 5 Forza
GT 5 has too many Japanese Cars and neglects US and European Cars. Forza has less cars, but a better selection generally.

Car Models: GT 4 : 5 Forza
One point less for GT 5 for not having a cockpit view for every car. The GT cars supposedly look more detailed though (they say photorealistic), with movable parts. They also mention Forzas livery editor.

Sound: GT 2 : 4 Forza
As its predecessors GT 5 has generic sounds that make an BMW M3 sound like a vacuum cleaner. Premium cars have better sounds, but they are still weak in comparison.

Tracks: GT 5 : 3 Forza
Both games have a similar selection of tracks, but GTs are more realistic and the city and fictional courses are nice additions.

Career: GT 3 : 3 Forza
Both games have their focus on relatively boring events and small championships. Forzas point system is more transparent and the options available make it more comfortable, GT 5 on the other hand has karting and the B-spec system, so it's a tie.

All in all: GT 18 : 20 Forza

As a preliminary result, yes.
Scenery, Weather, racing series, driving physics, tuning, setup, damage, online modes, community-servies and additional features are yet to be evaluated (grey stars). Kinda weird categories I'd say... However, I wouldn't call 4players.de a serious site anyway.

Yeah, they are a website with a store (my copy, bought from them, is on the way). They don't really have a reputation as reviewers.

^It seems anything that doesn't praise everything about GT5 is negatively biased to a lot of folks round here.
 
There will be more on their site tomorrow, supposedly, and later - I can't imagine them having access to multiplayer yet when the others don't. We'll see what they say about weather, tuning and such.

Me too, sort of.
They say there are too many variations of the same japanese cars, but also say that the DLC of F3 helps a lot with modern cars. So let's wait and see what the GT5 DLC will look like :sly:

I'd wait until more credible review sites get there hands on the game. Although some aspects of what we're hearing sound disappointing until I actually get to play the game on my TV its hard to believe anything.

It will still get a good rating from sites because it's Gran Turismo, and because it's still a quality game, but it's definitely going to get dinged on features where it's lacking when compared to Forza. And you all know by now that those things include the whole "standard vs. premium" thing, not being able to change rims on the standard cars, no interior view on the standard cars, not being able to customize cars to the extent of Forza, things like that.

And you can all reply as much as you want saying things like "That stuff isn't important," but you really just need to wake up and realize that your Opinion does NOT equal Fact. Forza and Gran Turismo are going to be measured against each other, period. Gran Turismo does some things better than Forza, but Forza does some things better than Gran Turismo. And when you're reviewing games, at some point you have to compare them to their competition.

It will get good scores, but I'll wager right now that every single review written about this game will include some statement along the lines of "Considering the incredibly long wait in between GT4 and GT5, we're surprised at some of the things left out."

Well, if you have been excessively on this site like I have in the last few months, then you will realize that a lot of their deductions (standard vs premiums, bad car list, bad sound etc etc) were complaints we made. Only thing surprising is that they didn't improve upon them.
 
Before you guys get too distraught note there's no mention of any physics comparison which is probably the most important aspect.
 
These are the missing parts of the 4players test that remain to follow (seems to be a very detailed review):

- atmosphere
- weather system
- racing events
- physics
- tuning
- setup
- damage model
- online part
- community features
- additional features

So there is still a lot of hope for our beloved GT5;)

Have to agree with Wuestenmaus, it's one of the more reliable sites over here, most of their reviews sound quite plausible.
 
For such a short review it seemed to do pretty well. Online is notably absent, but it is an area Forza probably gets a 5-star, and GT5 currently gets a ?. Looking at it, I'm not seeing a bad review of GT5 at all. GT5 just doesn't check all the boxes as well as Forza, and there are a couple obvious nut-shots that GT5 does have coming to it in every review.

I'm curious to see the ISR head to head comparison. Not that it really matters to me--360 doesn't take my wheel, so I'm married to Playstation.

A livery editor versus day/night transitions, weather, head tracking etc. doesn't bear comparison.

Either GT5 is judged as a simulator, in which case the above features are crucial, or you compare it with the likes of Burnout and NFS.
 
Considering how many good reviews FM3 got, is it a surprise that GT5 isn't being reviewed a long way beyond that level? If FM3 had turned out to be a 7/10 game, then I could understand it, but this series has turned a lot of people's heads.

I'm a proper car anorak, but at times, GT's approach just isn't enthusiasm, rather a chore.

As for a livery editor, yes it is an important feature. When some upstart allows people to create their own racing car beyond slapping on a generic wing and alloys, then the benchmark should have it too. I'm hugely surprised at how blinkered some are by GT5, when the car creation aspect has driven the PC sim market for years.
