GT5 should I sacrifice engine to put a turbo?

Hey, I can't win one race for B-Spec, so I was wondering if it was worth sacrificing engine power (reducing power in options) in order to put a mid-RPM turbo, there is a PP limit, when i max out PP with turbo I get by 30BHP less power. So i was wondering if turbo would give me a boost enough to make it faster than those extra 30 horses.
 
You guys are suggesting to make my ride heavier instead of reducing engine power? AND WHERE THE HELL DO YOU SEE ME MENTIONING TIRES?
 
And another question. If my gear-box is not ''long'' enough to handle speeds i do when drafting, is it worth to put a reserve, if i go first fast enough and there is no more drafting, or should i leave it ''shorter'' so it i accelerate faster.

You'll get better answers if you tell us what car and what race.
Some of us (a LOT) have won every single B-Spec race there is you know.

Word,depending on the track,the proper tune will help immensely
 
First of all, why are you using all caps at people trying to help you?

Tires probably play a bigger role in lap times than pure power, so you have to use the best you are allowed. On the current b spec seasonal events, strategy for your pits is crucial.

You can just adjust the highest gear to get a couple of extra mph/kph. Or you can raise the tranny, since first is usually only used at the start.

Tuning the car can make a huge difference in bobs lap time too, because it allows them to carry more speed through the corners.
 
I am sorry, i just don't like that people talk about something i did not ask for.
I am doing the second B-Spec race. I am currently 2nd. and my Bobs are driving Toyota GT-ONE Race Car. I have put a Mid-RPM turbo, added extra 100Kg, so it's 1Tonn and lowered engine power. I think it was like 830BHP+
And i am hoping to win if they will make a pit-stop like they did 1st time i attempted to win this race in Audi R10 Race Car.

Edit: And i think i am about to lose! :(

SuperGT @ Spa: Calsonic GTR, broken in with oil changed, aero at 40/60, power limiter to 600PP, run intermediate tires and do not pit. (I almost lapped 2 cars this way, won by a minute or more)

Sarthe race: Audi R8, stock using power limiter to make 700PP, max aero. Start on hards, pit on lap 2 to intermediates, get in front and drive casually (50% on bar) until the race is over.

10 million dollars.
Oh, I raised front ride height to max, and set rear 10mm lower then max on both cars.

3nd place with Toyota GT-ONE, i switched too early to racing Hard tires, because my Racing intermediate's were in very bad condition and i had Audi R8 in front of me which i couldn't catch, switched tires so maybe i could catch it when it pits in, but my B-spec driver slipped out few times. Audi R8 it is, i just bought Toyota GT-One for this race for 3Mil...

Should i drive entire race with only 1 pit-stop when rain starts???
 
I pit at the end of lap 2 from hards to inters, and my tires were dead bald by the finish, but I had room to change tires if I wanted to, I just didn't know the AI would put hards on at the end of lap 9.
But just pitting on lap 2 to put inters on easily gave me a 5-10 second lead.

If I'd driven less aggressively when in front, I wouldn't have had bald tires come finish time either.

Then taking it easy while still hanging out with the mid-pack group..>Go about 5-6 laps then pit again...Get new tires and get your bob out there in the red for a while...The lead group will pit and you wont have too. Should work out. If not, you can try using the 2J with an intermediate front and soft sports rear. No pits needed.

But I would look to tune the suspension. The Turbo isnt a bad idea but the increased torque might turn into increased tire wear as well...just a though. Oh and yeah, I would raise the top speed slightly. Lengthens the gears which should help on tire wear as well and give you some more top speed in a draft. Just my 2 cents

I tried Intermediate at the beginning, but didn't work out. They wore out very quickly. 50% at lap 3.

Inters shred on dry road, just do what I said, I've already done it, it works out easily. I used a level 36 bob in downswing if that helps.

I am doing pretty badly, im 3rd. I am racing with Audi R8 Playstation and i added extra 50KG to get more power and i have aero like you said minus 3 of each setting. Lap 7.

I could buy the standard one, but when it was available I bought the toyota and now there was only Playstation one. I will try to do it without pitting, maybe my tires won't die before finish. When the sun raises water level on track evaporates very quickly.

Audi R8 - NOT the Playstation version, the Audi R8 LMP car, silver and yellow/red, stock 900KG's, do NOT add weight. Do NOT reduce aero. DO use power limiter to around 730HP to make 700PP.
DO raise ride height to max, and lower the rear 10mm.

You're using a car the now weighs 100KG more then mine did, I can't tell you how that will work, but it would seem not well at all.

Hope it works out for you, from what I saw there's a few other LMP's with good low PP ratings for their power, like the Nissan R92, etc, maybe dig through and look in your garage for what gets the best specs at 700PP?
I would say don't add weight, not at all, set max aero, and just use power limiter on any of them.
Possibly lower rear aero 5 points for more power, I haven't tried it though so I don't know.

I also used the 2001 Audi R8, stuck a stage 3 turbo, limited it to 700 pp, drove my level 33 like mad to pass up the bottom half of the field by the 2nd lap. Pitted for tires on lap 3, then casually drove him up to 2nd, behind the other Audi R8. I ditched the pits on lap 9, and let my driver coast it home to 1st.

It works wonders to keep your guy near the middle as much as possible, since they like to spin around on max push.

And as for the suspension, I kept it stock.

Oddly enough, this R8 I'm using is losing steam at around 220 mph, while the other R8 can go 224 mph.
 
You can also use a Chaparral 2J at 700pp with top speed raised about 2 clicks. With the tires, there are two strategies:

1) Start with racing hard and pit in at the end of lap 2 for Intermediates. Use those until the end. They will wear out fully around lap 9. You will have to coach the driver to victory.

2) Use Sport softs from start to finish. They supposedly do well in rain also.

I used the first strategy with a 2J. I tried to stick to the top 5 cars. They all pit in on lap 9 and I just had to coach my driver to stay quick on straights and slow on corners to take the win. This was with a lvl 28 driver.
 
Thanks everyone for support, i seem to be killing it with BMW V12 LMR '99. I always thought BMW weren't such good cars, silly me. I went 5th on the very first lap.

edit: Yes, absolutely. Aerodynamics really help a lot more than 40BHP. I went first when everyone pitted at the end 3rd lap. I pitted on the 2nd lap. (to change tires)

But one final question!!! Should I switch to Intermediate tires or Racing Hard on 8th lap? Intermediate tires wear very quickly when the sun is drying water from the track.
