Please forgive me if this has already been done, but I've used the search button and I can't seem to find another thread the same.
Anyway, if you're just starting out on GT5, here's a quick guide to what car you should buy quickly. This details all the cars, both new and used, that you can afford when you start out with 20,000 Credits. Each car will be listed with a BHP output, weight and price; along with a verdict and rating out of 20 - not of the car itself, but its usefulness as a starter car. Note - this chart will only describe premium cars, as the start of the Used Car Dealership cycle is unique to your profile.
Daihatsu Copen Active Top '02 - 63BHP - 830KG - Cr. 15,000. This is a thrashy and nippy little tyke. It's good for some events, but don't count on it for the Sunday Cup and FF Challenge, which are the two Level 0 events. RATING - 11/20
Honda Civic Type R (EK) '97 - 182BHP - 1050KG - Cr. 19,980. Excellent all-rounder, good for most of the first events you do. Be aware of the high price, though. RATING - 15/20
Mazda Eunos Roadster (NA Special Package) '89 - 118BHP - 940KG - Cr. 17,000. Fun little car with good performance credentials. Good choice for the Sunday Cup, which should unlock you more events. RATING - 17/20
Mazda Eunos Roadster J-Limited (NA) '91 - 118BHP - 950KG - Cr. 19,000. Exactly the same as the previous car, except 10KG heavier and 2,000 Credits more expensive. And it has less colour choice. Avoid. RATING - 4/20
Mazda Autozam AZ-1 '92 - 63BHP - 720KG - Cr. 14,980. Similar concept to the Copen, but this one's mid-engined so you can't enter the FF Challenge with it. Slightly cheaper and lighter though. RATING - 9/20
Nissan March 12SR '07 - 108BHP - 960KG - Cr. 17,830. Exactly average. Could be helpful early on, but don't expect it to take you too far. RATING - 10/20
Suzuki Cappuccino (EA11R) '91 - 63BHP - 700KG - Cr. 14,580. Another convertible kei car. Fun, nimble, useful early on. However, if you want a Cappuccino skip this one and get the EA21R instead. RATING - 6/20
Suzuki Cappuccino (EA21R) '95 - 63BHP - 690KG - Cr. 14,600. Generally improved over the EA11R, and only 20 credits more expensive. This one has a Race Modification as well. RATING - 14/20
Suzuki Swift Sport '05 - 123BHP - 1060KG - Cr. 16,200. Another excellent starter car, but less performance orientated than the civic or the '89 Eunos. RATING 13/20
Suzuki Cervo SR '07 - 63BHP - 820KG - Cr. 14,180. More kei car stuff. See Daihatsu Copen, Autozam AZ-1 and Suzuki Cappuccino for description. RATING - 11/20
Suzuki Swift Sport '07 - 123BHP - 1060KG - Cr. 16,300. LITERALLY exactly the same as the 2005 model in every way apart from it being 100 credits more expensive. THE most pointless car in the game. RATING - 1/20
Toyota Vits RS 1.5 '07 - 108BHP - 1070KG - Cr. 16,380. Big Rival to the March 12SR. I would recommend this over the March for one reason - you can enter it in the Vitz Race when you get to the required level. RATING - 14./20
Gran Turismo PDI Racing Kart 100 - --BHP - --KG - Cr. 5,000. Not quite as pointless as the 2007 Swift but a worse starter car, this tiny Go Kart can't be used in A-Spec or B-Spec and is won at Level 1 anyway. And trust me, Level 1 comes as soon as you win the Sunday Cup. Pick from any of the above cars, win the Sunday Cup, and get it then. RATING - 1/20
