I want to know what the actual differences are when it comes to physics on the track.

Where on the race track does IRacing showcase more realistic physics. Is it just less grip? Maybe the cars feel heavier, Maybe IRacing does a better job of implementing weight transfer or the loss/gain of tire grip?

I only see people say IRacing is better but i never see them present the reason that it is.

If you take the same car out in both games and set them up for the most realistic experience, Most realistic tires, downforce, suspension, Horsepower etc How does IRacing showcase the more realistic physics when the cars are the exact same?

Comparing GT5's physics too IRacing can only be done if the most realistic equipment is being used. Like maybe racing soft tires give an unrealistic amount of grip so use medium or hard etc.

If you haven't played both or the have never even driven a real car don't even reply.

Much, much more advanced tyre and suspension modelling would be the main difference. GT5 is very, very basic in that area. Aero simulation is another area GT5 is very basic and flawed in it's simulaton.

But yes, read the iRacing sub-forum.

I have raced both. Ive raced GPL, Rfactor, Iracing , GT5 and speedway in reality. GT5 is an awesome game!!!! Yes so is Iracing , but it is not a stand out over GT5. I believe its harder to drive an Iracing car, but is that reality ? it keeps the race nuts happy but a good sim should also allow Miss daisy to jump in your sim and comfortably and instantly drive slowly and smoothly ( going to shop for milk speed) as she has been driving for years and should be able to drive a simulated car. NO-WAY could she drive Iracing straight up at even 60km/h , but GT5 is instantly drivable and recognisable as accurate car physics at low speed or high speed. Put a set of low grip tyres on and take an overpowered car in the rain on GT5 , and it DOES NOT GET ANY BETTER PHYSICS , not in Iracing , not in Rfactor. GT5 will always be on par with Iracing in my books , and the community side of it pushes it to become the better simulator for me :) cheers

Superior market appeal ≠ Better physics, which is what we're discussing.

You do realize facts make a good argument, right? Not just pure opinions.

Parents first attempt at GT5 (wheel included) > Drive straight off the road > "This is supposed to be like driving" > Never again.

I won't comment on iRacing since I've never driven it, but if GT5, dry or rain is better, then iRacing is a disappointment. However I doubt that's true. GT5 has a simple tire grip multiplier with on/off grip in many cases, very odd and often subdued weight transfer, and a few more problems in other areas. Forza 4 is hands down a better simulator, so in any case it's hard to call GT5 the best.

The post asked for opinions on physics from experienced people. Facts on physics would require some software designers to enter the convo. I think the bad rep from GT5 comes from people turning boost on , setting rooms with racing softs , driving overpowered over gripped cars. Yes there is some arcadey options in GT5 , but there is also some awesome realistic racing to be had if you reject these arcadey options. The game can be what you make it.
I have never , in my many years of sim racing experienced the accurate ability to power slide and catch a drifting car with as acurate physics as GT5. I-racings level of grip is sometimes like an on/off switch rather than an accurate scale directly related to weight transfer , steering input and throttle control.

Except I drive on many different grades of tyres with no aids on and yet GT5 still falls short due to it's simplistic systems. Hell there is plenty of evidence of the fact that tyres in GT5 are simply grip multipliers which is already a nail to the foot.

There is no game out there that gets everything down with precise perfection, however GT5 is most certainly trailing behind.

And that is why we are blessed. There is something out there to keep everyone happy , and its only getting better. Iracing is awesome there is no doubt. Personally for many reasons I prefer GT5 but I respect the right for racers to voice their opinion and race wherever puts the smile on the dial.

I prefer GT5 because I like feeling like I 'own' the cars I drive (Plus I find driving production cars more entertaining than race cars) so to me it's the superior game, however; Iracing is the superior SIM.

But since we're discussing physics here, that's irrelevant. GT5 is inferior when it comes to physics. You simply can't dispute that =/ everything is a very simplistic version of where it should be.

I never play Iracing with a wheel, but I have it installed on my PC long time ago, tried it with PS stick using USB adapter, not much grip on the tires - driving it like I would do on the street ( speed + smoothness ) was a bit of a pain, maybe similar to this in GT5 :

Another practice run video, this time with bone stock Lancia Stratos '73. The car was bought from UCD, with over 10,8xxx,x miles. It has 185hp, 410pp painted in York Green.

The track this time Nurburgring GP/F, the Stratos was fitted with Comfort Hard tires ( for 420pp/less cars ), no ABS or other aids, grip real, tire wear/fuel consumption on and 10/8 BB. The time is 2:47.090, not my best, but it sure was fun.

The Stratos with CH tire somewhat reminded of how Iracing grip level was when I tried it ( using analog stick )
