GT5, which unlikely family members have you introduced to it?

I'm just curious about this.

My grandfather is 88 and he is a keen observer. He can't get the hang of driving on GT5 but he loves watching, especially the classics, after a lifelong history in motorsport.
And yesterday I handed over my DFGT to my 3 year old son. I was really suprised at how well he got the hang of steering. He soon learned how the pedals affected the car and when to reverse (yes, the encounters with the wall were inevitable). Then he found the horn and that concluded his first driving lesson, but he is looking forward to round 2 later today.

Suddenly GT5 has a lot more depth to it now I can share it with my family.
I would recommend getting the kids involved, and it can't do any harm later when they learn to drive.

Just thought I would share that with the community, please feel free to share your experiences. Thanks.

I tried to get my youngest son, who happens to be 7 at the moment, to get some practice with the GT5, but even with the assists on he claimed that the game is too hard.
Which kinda amazes me because the kid can play iRacing pretty well without even complaining (using a G27 Logitech)

Otherwise, I have introduced the Gran Turismo 5 to some older people I know and they just love to take out the Sambabus (for example) and drive it around whatever course, then they start telling how they remember the days when they had one etc.
Fiat 500 also gets alot of symphathy from the older folks (60 to 80 year old)

My dad, who happened to die last year, saw the GT5 when he was visiting few months before his death, asked me "What channel are you watching ? Who is winning?"
And then realized that it was a game and he wanted to try it out and he amazingly picked the Volvo 240 from the carlist and drove around the Nurburgring with it, after a while he told me that "Seems like videogames are more closer to real life and yet still so fun" From a man who hated everything that happened to be in Digital form, it is saying something.

R.I.P my dad

My 10 year old sister seems to enjoy it. She's rubbish, but she just paints cars pink and drives around.

My girlfriend and I started a new game a few nights ago. Not the most unlikely I guess, but I was kinda surprised that she was up for it :D

Sampyla sorry to hear that mate, I lost my Dad last year too. I had just got him into COD, haven't played since.

Back on topic, my grandad can also provide far more detailed decriptions of most of the classic Le Mans and rally cars than PD can.

Actually, starting a new GT5 game with my girlfriend IS GT5 related. Maybe I should have actually said GT5 in my first post but I figured it was implied.

My three year old daughter loves driving her pink iMiev around Indy and going "super fast" then yanking the handbrake on the banking trying to do a 360!

Great thread!

I've let my dad try a new camaro around Daytona and he weaves all the way down the straight until eventually spinning out. He feels the feedback and doesnt hold firm.

My mom was a better experience. I give her a miata around deep Forrest. She is better at keeping it on the road. Problem is she is doing 38 mph and screaming at the top of her lungs the WHOLE time.

Much fun!

Edit: g27 and playseat evo

My girlfriend's 6 year-old son likes watching me play GT5 sometimes, and he wanted to try it so I handed him my beat-up DS3. He crashed ever 10 seconds but had a great time doing it.

My girlfriend says she wants to play (GT5) with me but we have only done that a couple times. I'm very good and she is just starting out, so I give her a great mid-range A-class car (e.g. stock R34) with RS tires and I'll take a B- or C-class like a Focus or Silvia or something similar, with SH tires. Seems to level the field a bit.

My sister loves watching me and her boyfriend race GT5. She has tried several times but just can't get the hang of it -- she steers too much and doesn't let off the "wheel" soon enough (expecting the car to immediately straighten out as soon as she lets off the stick) and ends up fish-tailing into the wall every time.

My little sister likes playing it on the wheel but she only wants to pretend shes picking up here stuffed animals from the Casino in Monaco and Hotel Paris in Madrid. When shes done with that she pretends shes stuck in traffic so she just sits there pushing the horn button. But she loves driving her red Ferrari California in Eiger Norwand, she would drive off the cliff or hit that town on the last turn if the game were real but she just gets me to spend the credits for a carwash every 20 minutes.

XXI

!

My cat has decided that my playseat is currently the most comfortable spot in the house. Whenever I vacate it, he's on it in a flash. Then it's a major fight to get him off. Does this count? ;)

I tried to get my cat to play it but she always gets scared and runs away as soon as she hears the engine sounds.

Got my GF to play a few times but she is not too interested yet. Will have to giver her another try off of the back of this thread.

My mum!
She is like a typical mum who turns the controller rather than pressing the buttons to turn the car but when I bought my wheel she was on it more than me................and this is a woman who says she hates games.

My family members are all gamers and I told all of them NOT to buy GT5. Told them to stick with GT4 on the PS2 and Forza 3/4 on the 360. Its the first GT game I told family members not to buy. We own all the other GT games.

So they never played GT5? THEIR LIFE MUST BE SO SAD.

jk. :D

Their life is happier because they didnt purchase a PS3 to play a 20% complete GT5. They still enjoy GT2,3,4.
j/k :sly:

Family members, visitors, relatives . . . all want to play it as soon as they see the rig and the shiny pedals and leather-wrapped wheel of the G27.

Not many get to play my GT LIFE.

They have immense fun at the Arcade, though.

Great stories in here! 👍

I also have little cousins in the age group of 5-7 and they love playing the likes of GT5 and DiRT3.
Its hilarious seeing them trying to reach the pedals and turn the wheel at the same time :')

The depth of GT5 is immense... As is the game's accessibility. I can acquire a large car collection, tune cars, B-Spec, Seasonals, trade and gift cars and paint, explore the cars at the peak of the various PP thresholds to discover which I like best, etc and play the game in a way similar to many here. I am continually amazed by Photomode as well. One can create art there.

My wife plays as well. She's a fine driver, but prefers 4WD and cannot stand powerful FR setups. She simply fishtails too much and gets on the gas to early exiting a corner, sending the rear end around frequently. She's also a "late braker", more often than not on the inside of the best racing line, and overshoots corners. That paint you see on the walls is partially hers. I generally tune the cars up (with help from gtplanet frequently) and away she goes. She's not a big fan of Photomode (even though her pink Mini is her PS3 wallpaper - I made it now that I think about it). She is perhaps 45 game days in.

My 7 1/2 year old son LOVES the game. He has about 2,000,000 credits right now, after learning to win a few mid/high $ Seasonals. A tuned Ford GT40, which he painted chrome, is his favorite cash making car (Stars and Stripes Seasona - 8 laps at Daytona, he almost always wins). He has recently discovered Ferrari's and wants them ALL. He's also a paint fan and a big custom wheel guy. He's getting much better on more sophisticated tracks as well. Some wins, some middle finishes too. He adores photo mode, taking at least a shot or two each race and can change his own wallpaper, doing so a couple times per day. His is about 80 game days in. He is fascinated by any of the great looking "race" cars and of course F1 cars, regardless of whether or not he can drive them well.

My 16 year old is a solid racer, but is too interested in his war games and superhero games to get too deep into GT5 atm. Casual arcade mode racer.

14 year old daughter, not interested. I thought she would want to race a Mini or a Beetle, but I don't think she's ever driven a car. Stupid One Direction takes up lots of her time.

No other game I have ever owned has such a wide scope of possibilities.

Well that's a silly statement, isn't it? YOU'RE deciding for them that they'd hate GT5? Seriously?

And was it really necessary to try & turn a fun topic thread into a GT5-bashing one? Just asking...

Another reason GT5 is magnificent... the community is rich with irony. As in people with 10,000 posts on the series/topic somehow bash it with an apparent (yet simultaneously hilarious at times) serious tone.

Thanks for all the input guys there are some cool stories in here, keep them coming.

Driving lesson no. 2 was fun for my 3 year old, I did throttle and brakes this time round and he took control of the wheel. The car was a stock (except RS tyres) Cappucino on High speed ring. The armco is a little more battered there now but he is getting the hang of things.

I couldn't agree more, I bought GT5 on launch day and have never found myself short of something to do. Now my family are getting involved it is even more enjoyable.

I cannot see either why people are still angry over this game. Through all its years in development I think peoples imaginations ran away with them, and they were disappointed when they only got a GT game. Some fans I'm sure would not be happy even if PD delivered them a fully working X2011 to their front door.;)

I made play GT5: My dad, my mother, my sister, my cousin, my uncle and my aunt too.

They never play because i play but sometimes i call them to try something and laugh just a little.

My dad is too lazy for play, my mother open her eyes so big and tries to concentrate at maximum...so funny man but she does pretty well.
My cousin does good but when fails he blames the game and move away. Very low patience. And my sister is like "oh yeah that´s fast...ohuuuuuupsss! hahah" Yeah she crashes a lot and laugh.

I am the youngest in my family with 27 years old.
