Hi. I have a ms3 that had 4 ylod, that i fixed all. Could it handle gt5, or will it then freeze again?

It never should have ylod like that in the first place... It's already acting in a manner that is unusual and impossible to predict. Therefore, it's impossible to say if GT5 will make it happen again.

YLOD has nothing to do with the games.
But it will happen again if you "fixed" it already 4 times.

But when i play the firt motorstorm, itbruns perfectely, but black ops crashes before a game is over, and then id have to take it apart.

It doesn't matter. Your PS3 is still the problem. It should not crash on ANY game. Crashing on some games just means that your broken PS3 is still able to handle some games, but not others.

YLOD 4 times? You got a lemon...

I have a 60 gig fatty from october 2006, it ylod 4 times in the last 6 months. Ive started dusting it everyday and now ive got it out in the open instead of a little corner where it couldnt ventilate and now its runnin strong.

What causes the ylod is the system over heating, it gets too hot, melts all the solder and things start slippin around inside and getting out of place. Just make sure you keep it well ventilated and not in a little corner or something.

Actually the solder cracks and the graphics and cpu chip usually peels away from the board as the board bends. Tragic.
So remember to backup your game saves and get Sony to replace that motherboard.

I watched a video and did it myself, it is actually not that hard

Not just that, Due to Laws of most countries The PS3 is sold as a "Toy" and therefore cannot contain lead.

Lead solder is what the PS3 needed but due to this stupid understanding that the PS3 is sold as a toy and not an electronic device, lead solder is banned from being used on the PS3 motherboard.

The result of this is simple, with lead free solder, it doesn't "stick" to the motherboard properly and can go dry and crack and eventually come off the board.

Then a user takes apart said PS3 and uses the Heatgun / Oven method to reseat the Solder, which then softens the solder and slowly but surely the Solder begins to wear thin and doesn't work as it used to ( due to constant reheating ) it begins to dry out.

The only Viable way to fix a PS3's YLOD once and for all is to have a professional reballing centre re-solder the entire motherboard with lead solder.

Which by the way is VERY expensive.

You've repaired it four times? By re-flowing the solder? I'd hardly say that's fixed. Every time you reheat the solder it dries out a little more. Get a no clean flux pen, or look up Gilksy's guides on Youtube. Or start saving for a new PS3.

Its extremely easy to re-solder a CPU or GPU or let alone any other part in the PS3 with some flux and normal lead solder.

lol why would you want lead solder in something you keep in your room, that gets hot and has a high air flow running though it? I find it hard to believe if the ps3 used lead solder that none of that lead would come out of the ps3.

I already have o a new one, but thats for tje whole family and if i fix this one, we have am xtra ps3

In my opinion, it's a problem with the old, fat PS3s handling modern games, such as Black Ops and GT5. It'll run a game from '07 fine, but new ones? No go.

Then would ot be able to run killzone 2

Increased load would probably make it more likely.

The load from GT5 is probably fairly high.

There isnt a yes or no answer to your question just that it is probably highly likely due to the extra load and therefore extra heat

I couldn't say. I would say most games will end up re-frying the motherboard- they say once it happens one time, it keeps happening.

You just have to try it, I guess.

Best of luck.

Why can't you open up the area in the case over the cpu and mount an aditional fan to increse the air to the mother board?

How much does a new fan cost?
