More good news for American car fans, more power for the upcomming Shelby GT500...

Leftlanenews.com
Final certification testing of the Shelby GT500’s 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 shows it will produce 500 horsepower and 480 lb.-ft. of torque — 25 more horsepower than original estimates. The 500 hp rating was obtained using the Society of Automotive Engineer’s latest standard and was witnessed by an objective third party. The right to purchase the first 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 was auctioned for $600,000, with the proceeds benefiting the Carroll Shelby Children’s Foundation. The 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 goes on sale this summer.

So we have the GT500 now with an offical 500HP, the Blue Devil is now a confirmed car slotted for production... It makes you wonder, what good news is going to come from Chrysler?

Well, I was thinking more on the American level of DCX, but I suppose that counts.

Also makes you wonder what the rumored GT500KR for 2008 would be setup to run?

...I wouldn't count out a LS7-powered Camaro ZL1 to take on the Cobra. If the Corvette will be available with 600+HP, you can be sure that a 500HP Camaro is in the works... Oh, and I would also presume the same for the GTO, as it would probably be called "The Judge" alike the late '60s models.

How about a Viper-engined Charger SRT-10 with a '69 Daytona-style basket handle rear wing, Shaker hood and a pistol-grip shifter to stir the six speed with? That would keep the Mopar faithful happy until the Challenger comes out, which I'm betting it will...

That would be great, lets just see it happen first. I'm sure someone is working on a conversion kit somewhere...

A Viper engined Charger? Now that would interest me greatly. That automatically would make me like DC just because of that. Dodge Charger SRT10--I say that has a nice ring to it doesn't it?

LOL true. How about a V12 engined SRT-12? :D

I don't think the Chrysler arm of DCX would ever go for 12-cylinders. Unlike Ford or GM, who have in the past built 10, 12, and 16 cylinder engines, the biggest Chrysler has done is a 10... Presumably what is in the Viper right now...

500hp? nice. but am i the first one to think that the wheelspin at high speed ratio is high. I mean 500 hp is Viper level wheel spin. but apart from that ill have to say: OMFG!!!

A V10 is chrysler's biggest?

Nonsense. In WWII, Chrysler built an inverted HEMI V-16. Granted, it never made it to mass production, but it was 2,800 cubic inches and put out 3000-3500 horses. :dopey:

Scaravan..

On a 4 door? Blasphemy. I can't imagine how that would go over with the purists...

Take 2800 and multiply is by .0164 and you get...45.62L

...More news on the GT500...

Ford has increased production of its 2007 GT500 Mustang to 9,000 units for the year — an increase of as many as 1,500 cars. According to several reports to Leftlane News from dealers, Ford has boosted production to meet strong demand for the 500 horsepower Stang. Ford is also strongly discouraging significant markups over the MSRP, one dealer said. While ford has yet to announce the MSRP, it is typical for dealers to inflate prices on new and popular performance cars. Ford is expected to announce pricing late this month, with deliveries a month later.

The inflation of price is what exactly happened on the Ford GT, isn't it?

Good to hear that Ford is increasing production. May make some money for them, after all.

Yup, my step-dad who is a Sales Manager at a local Ford dealer was telling me the first 3 GT's sold for $225k! I was like "wtf isn't the MSRP is like $160k?".

Reports were comming through here that the few GT's that went through Keller Ford (I went to highschool with the son of the owner) sold for nearly $300K, despite the fact that Mr. Keller himself bought his for the true MSRP. Thats business for you...!

Holy man, thats some BIG profits there! Amazing. The MSRP was around $150,000, I have a R&T data panel on my wall.

Ford made a great car that attracted the attention to the company. Now can Ford keep that interest coming?

If Ford can bring over some Aussie Fords it would be a very good thing. And also I'd actually like to see a roadster to try and compete with the Solstice/Sky. Can you say a Ford MX5 sister model? I can dream can't I? :sly:

I don't think it is out of the question now that you mention it. It actually sounds like a good idea to be honest, but I don't know how they would market it... The last small two-seat roadster that had anything to do with Ford was the Cobra and the Sunbeam Tiger, but of which would be too extreme to compete directly against the Solstice and the Sky.

...Could you imagine a MX5 with the GT500 V8 under the hood? Now THATS a fight for the LS7 Solstice from Hot Rod magazine!

I get this image of a miata sitting on it's nose for some reason.

That isn't like a 302, or even the 4.6 which doesn't fit.

Back in '89-'90 when the first Miatas came out there were several Ford 5.0L V8 conversions. If anything, the larger MX5 should make it easier to drop in the S/C 5.4L out of the Cobra...
