Through a thorough analysis, i have found out the truth behind the ai of gt5p.

And the truth is, they are agressive and mean, and will switch lanes at any time.

Being this is only when you have the ai difficulty at a high level for that class.

The test cars i used were a honda Integra type R(DC5R), black 91 honda nsx, ferrari F430, mines skyline gtr.

First i time around i set the Ai to the default 32( just for the nsx), and went for a infinite lap race at suzuka.(about 3 laps) And it was terrible. the AI was sluggish and didnt fight back i had to costantly slow down to let them catch up.... It was a huge let down. They were also on rails aparently.. it was a failure..

Till i set it to 61. The majic number for majority of the japanese tuners or B class car's.

Which at that point The AI became very very agressive, fighting with each other for places, Switching lanes behind me, Diving on the inside then slamming on breaks to get infront of me.. Trying anything to get pass me, including Punting, 13 cars on the screen all closed in tightly trading paint and everything, flying into the kitty liter dive bombing curves, staying on my back bumper... Its a great experience.. Especialy with a wheel. which i ended up doing 16 laps and fighting with a i35 concept, DC5R, skyline BNR34,RX7, and lotus elise and evora... IT was great fun..

My closing verdict, GT5P AI recommended adjust for great long racing.

C class is good for 32-46... Recommended tires s2 Class example of cars, honda ingtegra type R, Mini cooper S, Ford focus ST. excettera.

B class is good for 48-64...Recommended tiress2 Class example of cars, Nissan skyline BNR34, Nissan 350z, Subaru impreza STI, Evo X. excettera.

A class is good for 64-81...Recommended tiress3Class example of cars, Ferrari F430, Ferrari F40, Tvr Tuscani. excettera.

S class is good for 90-100... Recommended tiresR1
Class example of cars, Ford GT LM, Nissan skyline BNR34 MINES, EVO X tuned. excettera.

Have fun.

Torque.

If its not to much trouble, Can i have this stickies, It work's and will add a ton of replay value to this game.

I had a 30lap on HSR with default opponents for the Lancia Delta (@ 20 or something i believe) today and they did a fine job at trying to take my spot to be honest. Always searching for my slipstream, and trying to sneak past on the inside lanes. They wern't really trying to bump into me, but I havnt noticed them doing that on purpose in 300bhp+ cars either. Mostly my fault for switching lanes where they dont expect it / braking too hard. And that doesn't really happen when you are in a Lancia Delta much either.

Takes a while for the grid to sort itself though, as there's always a couple of cars that hold up the faster cars for a lap or so. (at least on HSR)

So your point is: the faster car the opponent is driving, more agression is shown?
I think the level of agression is equal amongst the opposition, but it shows more clearly when you are in a faster car.

Almost my point but not quite there, my point is even when i was racing a mini at a lower level it was alot slower then the same mini At a higher level.

mini at a slower level would lag behind and was not agressive,

While the higher level mini actually put up a fight, and was faster.

Ah I see. Well the AI hardly push for full throttle, I suppose they could have them capped at 90% maximum (stable) throttle through corners and so on when racing a similar powered car, and at a 100% when racing a more powerful car?

I don't usually watch AI replays with throttle displayed though, so I might be completely wrong here.

Wow thanks man.👍 I've got to try this out.
:Arnold: GET TO THE ARCADE MODE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!! : Arnold:

Some of my favorite races have been with the Ai turned up. I usually run about the same for the A class but with S2's. I find S3's to be a tad too fast. I was running 82 Ai with a lightly tuned F430 (+3 power 100kg lighter) with S2's on HSR reverse and except for the Amuse S2000 (which was 1 second a lap quicker  I was having a blast. There was a Blitz Skyline right behind me and behind him was an 07 GTR and a Ford GT. They were all trying to pass each other and me:scared:! I was quicker out of the corners but I really had to be careful on the straights because they had a little more power. I have the replay saved and when I get a camcorder I will upload it to youtube.

Another GREAT race is set the Ai to 94-100 (100 can be tough:scared:) on Eiger forward or reverse and get yourself a Lotus Elise 111R Tuned. Up the power to 297hp (max. lower give more of a challenge), max the down force (just so that turn out of the tunnel is stable), get some R1 tires, do some tuning and go race. Its a great battle of power vs agility. The other tuned cars pull away on the later parts of Eiger but you gain tons of ground in the twisty parts. Then some of the slower cars can get in your way. Its almost like LMS racing. This makes for great passing and defending opportunities. You can also take the Clio out in the same situation with a between +1-5 power, max down force and R1s. Same scenarios.

what can we do about AI on Daytona Road? On the main oval section after you get off the middle section, the cars are sooooo slow. I can overtake an F40 with a stock M3. The track is one of my favourites, but every time I drive it, I get to the front so quickly - even when I'm driving 20-30 levels above the recomended AI level for a particular car. The bus stop and the oval after the middle section are the worst bits.

Also - I sort of started a thread like this ages ago - but, no matter 👍

Nice one Torque. 👍

I've been looking for ways to extend my GT5P pleasure, i'll give this a go.

So I gave it a try.

Dodge Viper SRT-10 on S3, everything stock, AI set at 79. 15 laps on Daytona Road.

I started 8th. After three laps I was third behind a F40 and the leader was 8 seconds ahead of me. Unfortunately I never got the first one. The difference between me and the leader stayed the same after I overtook the F40. I'm sure I would have get a lot of fun with the leader because it looks like he was running the same times as me but I was too far from him. Anyway it was fun and I will certainly try it with other cars and tracks.

i justed played alitle race pro on the 360.. and i must say the ai is realy good in that game

but in gt5p the ai drives like you arent there at all.. they doesent protect their position at all , or if you drive side by side the ai just pushes you of the track if you are in the ideal race line.. just poor Ai like all the Gt games

Sorry, but I've been playing Arcade Races A LOT, and I wasn't able to observe ANY intentional slipstreaming by the AI cars. As a matter of fact they stay on their racing line down the straights no matter what you do, unless they come too close when they might (or might not) move out from behind you. On Daytona Oval they even sometimes catch your back corner even though you're driving in a straight line and don't move an inch. When I notice someone close to finish coming up behind me, I simply move out from the racing line, they ALWAYS stay on their line.

What I DID notice, was that on some very scarce occasions, the AI will cover to defend the inside line. Actually, I can only think of the 90° right-hander at London (before the final chicane that leads to start/finish) where they do that.

Another problem that the AI seems to have is the Lotus Elise. It tends to run off and into barriers a lot on certain places, simply braking too late (and into the back of other cars). (Daytona Road infield, Suzuka hairpin, London hairpin)

Good thread... I've often played with the AI level but really never tried to assign much meaning to it. Basically I'd just up it 10-20 levels from the starting point for the car, then lightly tune the car... (usually just suspension and maybe some gearing if the car is geared way crazy).

Usually pretty challenging
