Right, this morning I woke up at 6:30am and decided to have a quick blast on the F2007 around high speed ring. I have all driving aids off, and as anyone that has use this car will know, it sticks to the road like its been welded down!

At high speeds this thing is insane!

Then I decided to quickly try the Polyphony Digital F1 car from GT4 on high speed ring to see if there was a difference. When I loaded the game and got onto the track the F1 car was all over the place! It was virually impossible to keep it on the track! I would have thought they would be very similar, but there is a HUGE difference in handling (not to mention the graphics ;))!

Anyone got any idea why the Polyphony Digital F1 car in GT4 is such a handful compared to the F2007 in GT5P?

No idea, but without even driving the F2007, I concur.

I've NEVER completed a clean lap with the Polyphony F1. Its a good thing they make racing games instead of Formula 1 cars 'cause they suck at it :D

It really was a handful on GT4, especially on Nurburgring. I got few clean laps, it was the most intense experience on GT4 by far.

I think its time to save for the F2007... Haven't completed all S class yet, so can i get it or not?

maybe cos is a 2007 and F1 car in GT5P.

WHen they changed to V8's in 2006 the cars became lighter and the back end Aerodynamics all changed because the engine cover could be smaller. So the cars are even more aerodynamic than ever

I dont watch much F1 (more into MotoGP) but even if that was the case the F1 car in GT4 is an absolute nightmare! Even the M3 GTR in GT4 handles better than it! How can a touring car handle better than an F1 car??

Hell even the Integra Type R in GT5P is better than it!

Oh yes, M3 GTR is wonderful car :) i love to take it round nurburgring!

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm saving up (Currently on 1 million cr. (PAL)) Can't wait!

Right, I took out the cars again yesterday but I used the wheel this time, and while the Polyphony Digital F1 car was still quite a handful compared to the F2007 I still managed a 52.649.

The best iv had with the F2007 is 50.934, so not bad for the PD F1 car!

The F2007 in GT5P feels a little bit like F-Zero. I can't wait to drive an F2007/2008 around the Nordschleife in GT5.

nascar drivers who were actually given the chance to drive an F1 car on the Indianapolis F1 circuit where litterally mowing the grass not driving it cause till you get used to it it is quite difficult to drive. However, when you learn how to drive it, it is quite impressive the ammount of mechanical & aerodinamical grip it can generate!

Well, that goes for lots of racing cars.

As for the FGT, I would say it's probably because of the suspension setup? I remember tuning the suspension forever to race the FGT series for each track, and I can't finish a couple, even now. Still won the championship, but withdrawn from (if i remember correctly) the Nordschleife and la Sarthe. And perhaps the throttle control isn't as sensitive in GT5, so it's harder to control (or easier to let the back go).

Every car in GT4 is nearly impossible to drive after you played GT5 ;)

Agreed, I was amazed when I played on GT4 again, the cars are so much more edgy! Amazingly I can actually go quicker on pro physics at a certain car and certain circuit on GT5P than I can on GT4, same car and circuit.

It's the vastly improved physics of the cars in GT5p, certainly as regards the F2007. The PDF1's were all over the place at times in GT4. The F2007 on the other hand, goes round any track like it's on rails.

F1 cars are constantly evolving. Engineers are constantly (literally 24/7) tweaking and improving things. You can't compare 2 F1 cars that are 5 years apart, and expect them to have similar performance. Since F1 engines have been reduced to 2.4L, since the engines have been frozen and limited to 19,000 RPM, and since TC has been banned, F1 engineers have had to look elsewhere to gain performance. Mainly today's F1 cars have more downforce, less drag, and more overall grip, than cars of yesteryear. So while the lap times may be similar, one car does it with big power, and the other one does it by going around corners at much higher speeds.

Maybe it's due to the fact that I'm a controller user (directional pad at that), but I find the F2007 a little harder to control than the F1 in GT4. In GT4, I could use basically the same exact setup for every track and get a reasonably fast time within a few laps (sometimes faster than arcade times posted at GTRP) -- the only thing I had to mess with was gearing and camber for the most part.

With the F2007 in GT5:P, setup actually seems to matter and perhaps I just haven't gotten it down yet, but there's very little feel for the loss of traction with the newer car. It sticks like mad, but it's difficult to feel the limit.
