GT5P on a normal TV...

So when GT5 comes out, I'll be buying it, along with a PS3 and a G25. Problem is, though, I have a normal TV, and an HD TV would be well out of my price range, as I'm buying the aforementioned stuff.

So my question is, if anyone does indeed play GT5P on a normal TV, what is the graphics quality like? Does it still look the same as HD, but not as sharp? Basically, I just want to know how GT5P would look on a normal TV.

I play on a normal tv, but my tv has component hookups in the back so i cant attest to picture quality with standard AV. On my tv with component the picture is very good, not as good as on an hdtv but very acceptable in my opinion, since its not widescreen part of the interior view gets cut off but its really no big deal

I had a cheap 28" widescreen TV (Bush) and the picture was terrible. Also you could see static lines flickering, and the text was out of focus.

I bought a 2nd hand 32" Toshiba 100Hz (£1700 brand new) for £70.. The picture is miles better, I can read small text now, and there is no flickering..

I don't get headaches from playing GT anymore!!! Woohoo!!!

I don't want to see a PS3 on a HDTV, as I will be very jealous, and then disappointed when I go back to my CRT telly.

I could not believe the difference between my cheap telly and not so cheap telly.

the only real difference i saw between my CRT with component and 720p with HDMI was a wider cockpit view and the gauges were more readable

Most "normal" TVs are going to have component inputs. When we first got our PS3 we didn't have an HD TV so we were using component inputs. It's not too bad. Not as nice as HD but playable. I bought a 26" monitor to play and that was really nice but then the price of the DLP TVs came down so much that we bought a 60" DLP.

Its playable, PD also made a zoom option for SDTV users in the menus, when youre holding R1 the menu screen gets bigger, pretty cool.
If you dont have the money for an HDTV but need one, you should wait till next year, i bet theyre becoming very cheap around January and February (you can get FullHDTVs for like 600-700€ now). Or get a 24-26" monitor for around 400 bucks, but be sure it supports HDCP either through HDMI or DVI-D (DVI is basicially the same as HDMI just without the sound, so you would need a seperate sound setup).

I have my PS3 hooked up via an HDMI to DVI-D cable on a Samsung 2493hm monitor and the image is fantastic!

But yeah, GT5P is playable on an SDTV, not like F1:CE, where everything is unreadable....

Yeah before I got HDTV 12 months back I played the Prologue Demo and GTHD on an SD TV.

Have to say it is so much nicer in HD but its certainly playable in SD.

Id say graphics wise a PS3 with GT5P is still a lot nicer than a ps2 with GT4 though youll probably end up wanting a HDTV after a while just to get the most out of it.

I play on a 16:9 ratio SDTV and its fine, as long as you make sure you have your display settings on your PS3 set correctly. You can see everything a HD player can, its just less defined. The graphics themselves are obviously still extremely pretty.

I play GT5p in 1080p now, used to play on a 576p tv, and I'd hate to have to go back. All the gauges in-car are now readable, and there is so much more detail in everything. I like being able to use the car's instruments, and because of the extra detail I wish you could turn the HUD off.

Ive got a normal Electron tube TV (not a flat screen) from Samsung and the quality is excellent, i can read all the small text and the graphics are amazing, obviously would be much better on HD, but my friend has a HD but not GT5 and its not that much better when hes playing EA Skate of COD.

Personnally i think it looks down right awfull on normal but i started on hd so its always gonna look worse.

I've been playing through AV jacks on my old 32" since I got GT5P, and I think the graphics still look amazing. I tried it on my friends 1080p HDMI, and it actually looked weird to me. Had anti-aliasing problems, and things just seemed to look funky. However, the gauges were easier to read. Overall, I'm very happy playing through SD.

The speedometer needles look way fuzzy and on HD they are perfect, just my 2 cents...

Buy a cheap 22" Widescreen LCD which is HDCP compatible. They are fairly cheap nowadays and it's what I played on before moving to a 26" Sony Bravia LCD running at 1080i

I have seen GT5P on a SDTV and it still looks good, obviously not crisp like a HDTV but nothing to overly worry about.

I played GT5P on both normal and HD TVs, the graphics with an normal TV are fine, if anything the aliasing was less noticeable on the normal TV. The only problems I had with the normal TV was that in cockpit view the instruments are hard to read and in some cars you can't see the mirrors properly if it's not wide screen.

I definitely wouldn't put off getting GT5 for the sake of not having a HD TV.
