GT5's GT Auto - Speculation?

One thing that the original GT series experience gave you was to start from a basic car, race the car, put the winnings towards tuning & then ultimately purchasing the racing modification. Typically the race modifications where real world race car versions of the street cars with some exceptions.

Of course what would be better now, would be to add body parts & a livery editor. Taking your street car to its ultimate limits. :)

Pretty much that, I want the same tuning system and performance parts thing we had and maybe just add a bit more depth and option but the best thing would be your DIY racing modification where you could select what part you want and so on.

The concept by GT modification they have is pretty damn cool so hopefully this is user-achievable too for stock vehicles.

Agree.

Engine Refreshing~ the block is honed, gaskets and bearings are replaced along with new piston rings, cylinder heads are rebuilt (This would greatly improve engine performance and result in more horsepower and torque)

Engine Service~ Oil is drained and replaced along with the addition of a new oil filter, The Air Cleaner is replaced or cleaned and spark plugs are changed, The Ignition and Fuel Systems are re-tuned for maximum performance (This would result in a gain in horsepower and torque)

Brake Service~ New Pads or Shoes, Brake Fluid is flushed and changed, Discs are resurfaced or replaced (This would result in overall better braking and increase the responsiveness of the brakes)

Drivetrain Refreshing~ The Transmission and Differential are fully rebuilt (This would result in smoother shifts and a increase in acceleration and traction)

Suspension Service~ Shocks or struts are replaced, Wheels and Tires are Rotated and Balanced (This would improve the car's in game handling)

Suspension Refreshing~ Stock Suspension Bushings are replaced with High Performance Polyurethane Bushings, Worn out components are replaced (This would greatly improve the car's in game handling)

Wheel Shop~ Hundreds of Name-Brand and Used Wheels to choose from. Many different sizes would be available.

Exhaust Shop~ Choose from different high performance exhaust components like headers, mufflers, side pipes, high-flow catalytic converters, and even complete systems (Different Components would affect the cars in-game sound and have a small increase in horsepower and torque)

Car Wash~ Same as in previous GT's

I like this idea of servicing your car but the exhaust shop seems a bit too excessive. Grouping of parts (full exhaust system) makes it far easier for someone who isn't very proficient at tuning. I do like this idea but the effort required to change the exhaust note for every different exhaust component changed for 1000 cars would be a terrible waste.
This time would be better focused on visual modifications such as seeing the new muffler and tip on the car, rather than just having the stock ones.
I believe that the purchasing of parts should remain in the traditional simple format and leave the rest for in-depth tuning for those who know how to do it.

One thing I really want to see is the ability to change a cars colour after purchase and the ability to use non factory colours.

👍 Just what i was thinking, mixing custom paints would be great only because i want to make stuff like this:sly:

btw first post here:)

Repair service after crashes.
Aftermarket wheels.
Aerodynamic kits.
Livery editor
etc.

It would be cool if you could turn around the cam and open the doors, hood and trunk before and after the virtual mechanics worked on the car, so you can see everything in detail.

Yea exactly I was thinking about that too!!!

BUMP! THIS TOPIC NEEDS A REVIVAL!

I am in GT4'S GT auto/car maintenance shop. It seems so primitive right now, but I think PD can make GT5's autoshop brilliant.

Currently I am in a 2000 RUF RGT and the options are limited.

GT4's Autoshop:

-Car Wash
-Oil Change
-Wheel Shop
-Wing Shop

GT5's Autoshop:
-Car Wash
-Oil Change
-Wheel Shop
-Wing Shop
-Paint Job (rims, body, etc)
-Livery Design (including stickers)
-Body Modifications

Evening everybody!

Was thinking today whilst driving on my way into work, what improvements or new features do you suppose Kaz has implemented into GT5's GT Auto shop? Obviously, the traditional car wash, oil change and wheel shop... do you suppose the livery editor would enter in this section if its included.

Its all pure speculation of course, but should give us something to chew on until TGS!

I hope we get to choose rim sizes this time though, the 99 Celica SSII really needed a set of 18" instead of the pathetic 14-15" rims it had... perhaps when buying the car we could choose the rims too? The new Subaru Impreza STI in GT5P for example shows 'BBS wheel option"...

Hopefully oil change will again change bhp and feel of the car, in GT4 i used to find that the engine was less responsive when it had dirty oil, might just have been me though. It'll be good if we actually see dirt on the cars now too, its not hard to emulate and :yuck:F2:yuck: has had it...

Anyways... thoughts?

I think your looking for Forza 3. Forza 3 has all those things.

GT5 is really just about making the graphics look good not adding anything to the gameplay.

My friend if you really know the GT series, that is not true. For one thing, GT introduced B-Spec racing, 24-hour endurance, interacting pit stops, gas mileage, F1 racing, and also even Rally racing (ice, dirt, wet)...and that is only stuff that was in GT4. So to say they're doing nothing about gameplay is a statement of fail.

For someone who tries to love both Forza and GT, you seem a bit bias.

Only because I want them both to be the best, and they can't do that if one has features the other doesn't.

So

More features = Better?

Like some wrist watch that has everything including a calculator..

Oh my, how does that make you not seem even more bias?? The features I listed were all things that the GT series had in gameplay and FM don't, yet you still say the FM series has more features in terms of gameplay and that the GT series doesn't do anything about it.

If what you say is true, you'd quit sounding like you're trying to favor FM over GT, because really, ALL your post so far is written all over it with FM cheerleader-type spirits.

Next time, stick to your own words and try to love both as you say you would. There are some guys here who do it right, but you sir are not one of them.

*edit

Sorry if I was too much, but I do want you to feel welcome here. This should be a community where things are as bias-less as possible but you just don't seem to be like that and these kind of people fustrates me sometimes.

Well for one, i don't want some teenage boy changing my oil and washing my car. I want scantily clad women in bikinis spraying each other with a hose over the hood of my Ferrari!

Gran Turismo 5's GT Auto has absolutely every chance in the world to be epic especially when compared to GT4's shoddy GT Auto. And by epic I mean transforming Gran Turismo 5 into a racing and modding beast. There's so much much that can be crammed into this icon on the world map:

Spoilers, rims, headlights, rear lights, etc
Oil Changes
Car Wash
Interior Customization
Body Kits
Paint shop
Livery Editor

Epic

The only thing you wouldn't find there is mechanical tuning.

Edit: GT Auto can be the one stop-shop for everything. Instead of going to each car's home dealership, GT Auto can be the universal tuning shop too. Good/bad idea, fellas?

Im 97% sure that all those characteristics in Bold, will be in GT5, Kaz has mentioned them and recently he said that you will be possible to tune your car A LOT, Changing every imaginable Piece of it:tup:👍👍:dopey:👍

About buying Mechanical Upgrades there, I Prefer to buy Branded Parts, for Example I want to be able to choose Between a TRD, HKS, Greddy, Garret, Turbo for my Supra and also see the benefits of every kind of Turbo, instead of Just going to GT Auto and buy a Generic Turbo....

Following please:

Original GT-Auto items:
Spoilers (since GT4)
Rims (since GT2)
Oil changes (since GT3)
Car wash (since GT1)

New features:
Body kits
Paint shop
Livery editor
Repair

NO interior customization, it would be a ricer party. PD spends alot of time on the interior, it would take them for ever to make all the different parts to make it all custom. you'll be looking at a 2011 release, and frankly I'm tired of waiting already.

I was never into gaming during the GT1-GT4 days. Could someone explain to me the purpose of having a car wash? (I know that a clean car is more aerodynamic).

Were you in races so long that the car got dirty that you had to pit and wash?

No, it wasn't something you did mid race, it was something you did in the main Gt mode menu. Over time your car got dirty which was reresented by the cars paint getting less shiney and looking duller. The car wash restored your cars paint back to shiney and new and also helped the cars aerodynamics slightly.

Oh..nice. Thanks Dave. So that is how the "used" cars also came into place? The game didn't just track miles, etc, but wear and tear on a car, weathering, etc.

That sounds like fun actually. I would like to see that in GT5.

Yeah, over time the used cars in GT games have had more elements dfferentiating them to the new cars. Back in GT1 and GT2 the used cars only ever needed a car wash to be as good as new, but also some cars can only be bought used. For examle, you can't buy a brand new R32 Skyline in any GT game barring GT3 which didn't have used cars and GT PSP which doesn't have a proper GT mode. But it started essentially just being a way to get certain cars cheaper and cars that you coudn't buy new. By GT4 the used cars had milage, power loss, chassis warping and dulled paint, you had to pay quite a bit on some cars to resore them. You could buy a used car in GT4 and find that the chassis has warped and it would cost 50,000Cr to restore it. Again in GT4 there were cars you could only buy used.

Very nice Dave. +1 rep to you. I really think that is an awesome feature point in the game. Not sure why...sounds almost kinda nerdy, but I really do like that.

Because its Real and Quite cool, i mean who doesnt like to buy a Beater and restore it to its full capacity? it would be really awesome if in gt5 Used cars came with Scratches and reaaally dirty:drool:

if a "livery editor" is included in gt5 i will quit playing the game and sell my ps3. a more american thing i could not imagine. worst idea ever.

Oil change
Car wash
13 to 18 inch Rims
Spoilers
That's it.......

J/k

Maybe some body kits and livery? I'll wait for some evidence :D

Just because the feature is included in the game, doesn't mean you have to use it. Afterall, its not confirmed either way yet. Personally, its something I would look forward to, I like the idea of re-creating some of the BTCC cars from the 90's if they're available. 👍
