I posted in the other thread that mentioned it, but there isn't a thread addressing this directly, so here we go. Everyone having this problem please list your PS3 model and when/where you have the problem.

I have reinstalled the demo 3 times and no luck. In the very first intro drive at Silverstone I can't even make it onto the track before my PS3 crashes.

Before anyone tells me it's a cooling issue, my PS3 runs great playing other games before and since. I can play GT5 all day no problems at all.

The demo crashes for me within 30seconds of getting in the car and driving down the pit road, never on the menu, so I'm thinking it might be something with the graphics engine not working with the early PS3.

I have a fat 80gig reverse compatible purchased Christmas 2007.

Well if you think that's the problem you could try to run the game in 720 instead of 1080.

What is option4 and how do I access secret menu? EDIT: Figured it out. Rebuilding database now and I'll post back if this fixes the problem.

Thanks!

Ok well after doing the demo lap and PS3 crashing, the next time I opened GT Academy it took me to the menu screen and immediately crashed.

(previously I never got far enough for the game to save anything and I always had to re-enter my name at the first screen)

Tried it a couple more times and the game crashes IMMEDIATELY when I get to the lobby!

I still think it's either a cooling or network issue. All games work differently, one might work but another doesn't, its all about how demanding a game might be.

In my opinion, you should look into replacing your ps3, or re-thermal paste.

What model ps3 do you have? Fat, slim? How many gbs?

No doubt that is YLOD symptom...

Then he would have the YLOD, which he doesn't.
It would be nice to know if it just freezes, or if it shuts down with a blinking red light, if it's the latter, it's overheating.

I have this same issue as the OP with one of my FAT 60 gig PS3's. Its not a thermal issue because I can start it up stone cold, start the demo immediately, and it won't make it through all the demo menus before shutting down with the 3 beeps. It "acts" like YLOD but its not YLOD. I can then start it up again, fix the then corrupted file system due to the sudden shut down, and then run GT5 just fine for hours.

I tried reloading the demo and still get the same results. Very strange indeed that it happens in just flipping through the menus when the system resources are not being loaded heavily.

This caused YLOD on my PS3, so before you try this again, you might want to do something about it.

Ah to hell with it. I'm not risking my old Fat60GB until they patch it. (Which I hope they do.) Too bad though - I really like the new physics engine.

Yess!! Exactly the same. Its not YLOD, and its NOT overheating. The demo just crashes my system consistently. Any other game I can play for hours and the fan comes on normally after a while' but never an issue at all. This demo has some bugs that need working out.

DriftBMW, try this, on the XMB, go to game list, highlight GTA icon, then scroll up and down as fast as you can with the analog stick, keep doing it for around a minute, if the PS3 freezes or shutdown, it's the CPU/GPU started to failing. I had around 6 months of random crashes on certain games - if I scroll the game list quickly under XMB it will cause freeze or shutdown, one demo F1 2012 always crashes at the splash screen right after publisher screen, then it became worse to shutdowns on most demos and games on the HDD. More and more games have random freezes or shutdown, then my old PS3 Slim gave up : YLOD :(

Did that for 3minutes straight' no problem. PS3 didn't break a sweat.

I got a new shop bought copy of the game and it freezes. Can't even get past novice races. Also can't find any support or proper advice. Probably going to return the game to the retailer for a refund. Very frustrating as my PS 3 , has always been reliable until now. Good luck. Reap3rman.

Take 10 minutes to clear the vents out or better still open it up and clean it.

I clean mine everyday and i couldn't believe the amount of dust and crap inside the PS3 when i opened it up!

My Slim has been running perfect since Sept 1st 2009, not even heard the fan go faster than idle ever.
Use it every single day for hours and many days it is on all day.

Try a disc cleaner too.

Will definately try cleaning vents. But as this " freezing " problem only occurs on G T 6 I don't think that will solve the problem. Especially after reading similar problems from other G T 6 users.
