I just got my PS3 and GT6 before Christmas, and is enjoying it. I haven´t played GT5, but played GT4+GT3 5-7 years ago. Now I am almost finished with the built in challenges in GT6.
(Online racing is also a blast !)

Is it worth getting GT5, which seem more of a challenge to complete (!!) ?

Are any of you switching between GT5 and GT6, or have you left GT5 for good ?

I know, more than one question :)

At least with GT5 you'll have a finished game, one that PD won't be constantly fiddling with via updates & mindlessly changing stuff just for the sake of it. GT5 is a much better game in certain areas, although the physics is not one of them. Pick it up cheap & have fun with it is what I say.

You will also have up until May 2014 to enjoy the online features of gt5. Some nice seasonals added every thursday. They alternate between Time/drift trial and A spec events.

I personally think GT6 is a lot better than 5. However, if you are going to get it i'd go for the academy version. At least that way you wont have to download so many updates!!!

As someone above has said, you'll only have until May this year to play it online. But there's plenty to do offline with that game so yeah it's still worth getting.

Based on the fact that you'll still have to work your way up to owning a garage of cars, idk if it's worth the time/effort, but the cost *is low, so if a collector, it's a version worth having. The coursemaker is another possible reason to own it, but too soon to tell, since there is no coursemaker yet in GT6 to compare.

My GT5 is in my PS3 right now. I dont waste my time with the unfinished product known as GT6. I do the seasonals, which usually take all of 15 minutes to finish and put it back in the box. GT6 without question is the worst game I have ever purchased. I still have races that I didnt finish on GT5, I finished GT6 in 4 and a half days

You obviously haven't played GT5 Version 1.00 then.

Come to think of it, any version before 2.00, either... damn, GT5 was horrible at launch.

I wouldn't bother, GT6 is just SO much more than what 5 ever was. I'm sure 6'll have all the content 5 does sooner than later anyway.

I think it's worth it. Another member asked this question (sort of), and my somewhat lengthy response is at https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/new-to-gt5.295533/#post-9176418

True, I'd recommend trying it sometime if you get the chance though, it'll still be an accurate representation as there was no online functionality back then.

I think it is worth it. If you look at the transition from GT4 to GT5 it is kinda remarkable, also it makes a good collection.

Seeing that I've deleted my GT5 Game Data from my PS3, I will never be going back - unless they release a full/updated version. I'm not into downloading a 11+gb update for any game, progressively sure, all at once, never.

That's one thing to bear in mind, unless you don't mind about playing a really outdated version. Anyone here who's played the "vanilla" version (without updates) will tell you that it was terrible (ie; crappy physics, buggy UI, no-online etc.).

Anyway, good luck with your decision .

You are correct. I didnt get GT5 at launch, but I am sure it would have taken me longer than 4 and a half days to complete.

Sure, it would take you more than 4 and a half days. But it would be because of the stupid leveling system and the grinding. Not because it had much more content.

@OP: If you really have time in your hands and want more challenge than GT6, you should definitely get it. Besides the challenges, I can't think of many things of GT5 that you can't do in GT6.

I have just enjoyed 3 weeks with GT5 Academy version, with the perfect mindset - not expecting the best.
GT5 is such a polished product in this final version. Can't remember more than one time, that the game froze.
Visuals are not far from GT6 and framerate is very good in GT5. No frame-drops or slow down, which does happen in GT6.
Load times seem longer in GT6 (ie shorter in GT5), but this is also depending of online connection. Both GT6 and GT5 are so much more responsive, if network is disabled - just a tip for all not online test/race (license and similar).
(Is it just me, or is PSN very unstable at the moment ?).
B-spec is very addictive and entertaining and actually very useful. 3D is also a nice gimmick.

I would recommend all GT6 owners, that have not tried GT5, to give it a go.
I intend to switch between GT5 and GT6, at least until the GT5 servers stop.

GT5 has the Jensen interceptor and ginetta G4. and rally stages (kind of).

edit: oh yea, GT5 has online multiplayer that works
