The Transfăgărăşan is known locally as "Ceauşescu's Folly". Nicolae Ceauşescu was the Kim Jong-Il of the 1980s, and quite possibly one of the maddest dictators ever to walk the earth. He used to have the leaves of trees hand-painted green before he arrived in a town, and he decided that the best way to alleviate Romania's foreign debt was to export absolutely everything that the country produced. Everything. And while he succeeded in paying off that debt, he also caused one of the worst famines the world has ever known because there was nothing left in the country. He didn't design the Transfăgărăşan personally, but you can see why the road was named for him.

I'm Romanian, and I think the 'maddest dictators to ever walk the earth' is a bit much. He was 'special' in his own way (as is the case with every dictator), but I think his level of special doesn't quite compare to numerous other dictators.

A d-bag that got what was coming to him, he was though.

Would be amazing to run some of these roads. I was actually hoping this sort of thing would be possible with the course editor when they announced... but oh was I ever wrong.

Totally! That transferga... something, was also on top gear, probably where you got the idea from? nevertheless it is a great idea. The view is amazing and the road looks fabulous. It would also be cool to have some one on one showdowns down that road, that would be lots of fun. Amazing idea! PD look at this post!! please! maybe even a DLC for GT5 I just doubt it will happen though...

Test Drive Unlimited 2, which will be a free roam Sunday Drive type game! TDU1 as popular on XBox, wasn't that great on PS2, would be lucky to connect with someone you could roam around Hawaii in!

I'd like the A57 "Snake Pass" so i could drive along it for "once in my life without getting held up by a farmer or HGV" Nice twisty narrow road to drive with lots of dips, actually the best driving on it is at night.The scenery is nice in the summertime too . Or the M1 without rush hour traffic !!!!!!!

Not exactly a Sunday Drive but i'd like to have the ability to drive or race the Mille Miglia or the route the GT Tour special event follows.

Fantastic Idea, both the Sunday drive and the Mille Miglia but people... this is never gonna happen. It takes PD months (!!!) to finish a premium car and the 5 yrs of development for GT5 brought us 4 new race tracks, 2 of which ar ovals with infields. So there is no way they will ever render a single 100 km long real road, no matter how fantastic it would be. There is just not enough manpower in all of Japan for things like that in PD speed.

I think they should focus on giving us new tracks. Spa, Road America, Montjuic, Solitude...

Short A to B races should also really be included, though. Especially Pikes Peak!

In the San Gabriel Mountain Range, just northeast of Los Angeles (and maybe 2 minutes from my house ) you'll find Glendora Ridge Road, the East Fork, and Mount Baldy Road.

Mount Baldy Road will host one of the most difficult stages of the AMGEN Tour of California, the US equivalent to the Tour de France. 8 miles to the top, and it is wild!

Glendora Ridge Road is notorious for street bikers letting their machines out. Last time I went up there I saw 4 Ducatis parked by a cafe/rest top at the bottom.. and this was on a Thursday morning. The weekend traffic is pretty crazy, too. Lots of tuners -- Hondas, Toyotas, Subarus.... If you like blind corners on the top of a mountain, this is the place for you!

PCH, Mulholland Drive, the "Million Dollar Highway" from Silverton to Durango, CO (drove that a few times IRL)... I'd like to see all of them added.

I vote "No" on Highway 1 (PCH) unless it's just the section of Big Sur. Most of that road is boring and over-developed.

Another good California spot is 17 Mile Drive by Pebble Beach -- perfect for GT because of the car shows there in real life.

You may recognize this from the game -

Alfa Romeo GIULIA TZ2 carrozzata da ZAGATO CN.AR750106 ‘65 (Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance Gran Turismo Trophy 2009) ... It'd be the poster boy for that Special Event if they so chose to have one!
