GT6 wont patch at all. Have no patches currently.

I have absolutely no patches what so ever.

When I try to patch it downloads the first, and then when it goes to install I get an error messaying saying. "an error occurred during the install operation (80010038)"

Ive tried restarting ps3, deleting save data, restarting internet. none have worked.

All other games patch fine as well so I do not think its the hard drive either.

Anyone have this problem before and no what option i need to do when i do the safe start to get this to work? Might be going over to friends house to patch again.
 
I had this same error pop up when I was trying to install some games I downloaded. If you know how to get into the secret menu try that and go to select "restore file system" should help clear up the problem
 
In the past I've seen multiple people recommend backing up your GT6 save then uninstalling the game and reinstalling. Do the updates then restore your save file.

dont have a GT6 file to back up. ;)

alright. I was over at my grandma's trying to patch yesterday and went to do this but was unsure if i would lose anything so i decided to wait until i backed everything up. Thank you

tried this and it didn't work. I still get that same error when installing the first patch.

Any other ideas or solutions or should I call sony and see if i have to buy a new hardrive?

Did you try removing GT6 completely and reinstalling? At least try that first before you go through the hassle of dealing with Sony.

Also, before dealing with Sony I'd recommend formatting (thereby wiping all game data and saves, resetting the console to it's just out of the box state) the drive to reset it to see if that helps. It could be that the drive just needs a fresh format.

If none of this works and your PS3 is out of warranty you'd be much better off just buying a 2.5" laptop hard drive and swapping it out yourself as it's a very easy procedure that only takes a few minutes with a screwdriver. NewEgg has sales on drives all the time and you can get a 500gig Western Digital Black drive for currently only $60 shipped.

There's also the WD Blue 500gig drive for only $49 shipped but I tend to recommend the Black over the Blue due to the much longer 5 year warranty and higher performance of the Black drives. The Blue drive has half the cache (8MB) and is only 5400rpm as opposed to the Black drive which is 16MB of cache and 7200rpm. If you're not technically inclined that simply means that the Blue is lower performance than the Black.

Buying the drive yourself is also quicker. Sony will take four to six weeks if not months to get the console back to you. If not under warranty you'll have to pay Sony to repair plus shipping out your PS3 (which you'll have to pay for whether or not it's under warranty.)

Whatever you're going to do you should back up ALL of your game saves to a USB thumb drive first.

EDIT: After writing this msg I looked up the costs associated with getting a PS3 repaired by Sony. All in all, if it's out of warranty, either replace the drive yourself of throw it in the bin and get a new/used PS3. Sony's prices are just stupid expensive.

Dude that sucks! This happened to my ps3 at my dad's house. It's still not updated btw. All the cars are way expensive. The red bull is 20mil and the lmps are like 4mil. It's ridiculous.
