I can't be bothered to tune, so race A is out. I don't want to kick a puppy, so Race B may be out. Think of the puppies!

Race A: Carry KC '12 - 1:48.873 Default settings on a fully upgraded Carry, except for the ballast and power sliders

Race B: NSX Gr.4 - 1:19.728 Losing too much momentum out of Turns 4, 5, and 9

Race C: NSX Gr.3 - 2:01.941 Feels like I have no brakes or front end grip

You will really struggle with the NSX this week the higher/quicker lobbies you get just because of its gearing, it doesn’t suit Willow with such minimal braking and coasting and really high reving engine.

@brockie Was really nice to see you, I only just got back from a christening in Wales 194 real miles driving later I am a bit knackered now so not my best drive from pole.

I binned it in the second race I tried as well, so gonna call it a night there and see what tomorrow brings. I absolutely love the track, dynamically it’s one of the most technical ones for line management and throttle control/patience

I’m actually back in the 4c now but really this is ridiculous, I’ll be in DR D before the weeks out ☹️

I hope my return to early early morning racing fixes this because right now it’s just ****e 🤣😁

I have finished literally 5 of 20 races today, tanking

If its any consolation mate I'm struggling as well. Much like Maggiore last week, this isn't a track I race often and so can't find the extra gear needed for it, or where to place the car or to cleanly overtake. The one above for example I just get swallowed up, and make a fool of myself on the last corner.

Also, people are not very good at rejoining the track here, they tend to just drive straight into the side of you.

It’s really interesting that as a VR player these tracks aren’t as problematic as other views.

I massively agree though that the whole rejoin thing is bad but it’s bad from a player point of view but also track/surface point of view.

It’s always that tricky space between realism and game, and I think here there lean in realism where as I think it’s a track to take game liberties with. It’s cracking fun though!

I managed to pick up 3 wins from pole this evening, which put me to 250 wins in total. This one was very close (.016) and luckily the NSX was a very clean racer as I slipped past him. There's something about Big Willow that suits me a lot, it flows a bit like Brands and Autopolis and some of Laguna, where I also get decent results. Tomorrow might be a disaster though 🤣

I would love to see the tune that gets it to 1:35
I have 3 carry vans.

One is widebodied so not eligible, one has a totally glitched build, but it’s actually kind of undrivable because it will just slide and spin out at the slightest shift of gear or over application of throttle.

So I built a third one that’s much more stable and has good mid to high range pull through the gears.

But surprisingly I’ve left the suspension completely stock. Well beyond having fully tunable suspension, I’ve left it stock in its tunable state. What’s key to this beyond getting drivable power is getting the right gear range. You’re really only using three gears in the entire race and you want to tune them to be very close to each other and specific for certain corners. That is what gives you your time.

That said I just did 3 races. You think you’re quick and then you get one of the stupid fast guys on your lobby
IMG_9479.jpeg

Funnily, he spun out but I was beat to the finish line by 3rd who employed somewhat dodgy tactics in passing and blocking to prevent me from winning.

Next race I actually partially spun but still ended 3rd.

Last race I was second, 7s back from A+ got so considering the QT gap, not to bad.

There’s a lot of people just cruising this race and not racing. I think they’re just trying to get SR up.

That’s a shame, as this was fun when there was actual racing around you.

So after that I joined race B. That was a mostly A lobby and I started 7th. The first long sweeper, I put my right wheels into the sand and find the linear accelerator that rockets you off to the distant wastelands. Rejoin in last.

I think everyone must have been drunk or hung over from Memorial Day, as peeps were going off left right and center. Ended up 9th :D

What a surprise is Willow Springs! I wonder why it isn't used more often . Since I put the wheels on track I felt good despite the "coutryside trips" you take at the beginning, when forcing lil to much. It can be dangerous in race, so I need to take care. This flow "do not brake so much" layout suits me quite well btw and is way less prone to RBR style carnages. Round of applauses to PD.
7 tenths from aliens , with some 0.3-0.5 sec room for improvements is even better than what I could probably expect. With @ElectricNaz and @Barney Da Dog, we're all now in 40 thousandths (me at the bottom). So it will be tight racing all week, I assume, like 2 tenths gap from pole to 12th at the start (In A/A+ lobbies).
The only "minus" (if I may say so); I don't see Gr.4 cars running softer tires in future. I mean, imagine Willow on soft. It could be quite hilarious to try to take last corner flat out. Enjoy your racing week, guys.

Willow spring is going to need some real patience this week, that’s one unforgiving track ☹️

If anyone has a nice setup for the pick up truck, I may well have to camp there this week
The only track I like and enjoy there is Big Willow, the other layouts are bad because some have turns and corners where you'll get twisted and going into the sand trap and then you can't find your way back on track. What are you planning to do for the B/C races? Try some or pass? It's your call.

Let us know how it goes with the trucks this week, I'm sure it will be a blast for many players. However I'm not a huge fan of Tokyo. The Central part always gets me with some of the awkward turns and corners. It did in 2023 and 2024.

Sooo..

Race A another SR healer with no DR so meh. These races actually only ruin clean racing in daily b/c as SR is so easy to fix.

Race B a messy race in the desert with basically no penalties even if you push people out. No thanks.

Race C - well could be interesting if it wasnt the usual one lap on hards "tactics" and if there were possibility of rain. As it is and with no ability to properly trailbrake with dualsense to T1 and spoon I really cant bother..

Just the fact they use these one lap hard tire "tactical" races even on world tour just underlines the lack of tire wear dynamics this game has. Arcadey "one tactic fits all" at the very best. They should make switching between 1/2/3 stops viable with right tyrewear and fuel consumption. Hard tire + lean fuel should be at most one stop slower than soft tire + rich and soft+lean should equal hard+rich in race pace. Also the possibility to overheat/flatspot/dirty your tire to point you need extra stop would give some life to the races.

Hi everyone. Wow, race B can be unforgiving indeed. I know that I am impatient, and I know that Willow Springs is an unforgiving track, and I definitely know that's not a good combination. So I try to take all this into account, but it's so hard for me to take it easy haha.

I did 4 races (worst starting position P4, so my TT is not that bad). In the first 3 I manage to bin it myself by dipping one or more wheels on the dirt. I'm such an idiot who can maybe sometimes drive a decent TT, but when there's other cars close behind me I don't have the mental capacity to keep on driving, and at the same time pay attention to the radar or mirror (not even with this slowish gr. 4 cars). So I'm constantly afraid that I'm blocking someone or some other un-sportsmanship thing, but that 'being afraid' is exactly what causes some weird movements from me. A bad idea on this track.

In the 4th race I finally kept it together, and not for lack of close driving in the first half of the race. Started and finished P2.

I have the feeling that the custom slipstream is somewhat less of a problem in my B lobbies. Yes it is artificial, but B drivers make so many mistakes that the pack is going to spread out anyway. It's not like in the A+ lobbies where the famous Youtubers reside.

By the way.. that Alfa 4C is lovely to drive! Light and manageable.

I haven't seen anybody try that yet, but it might be possible at alien level. I ran 5 hards and 5 soft in my first race, and the front softs were nearly shot by the end of the race.

Found 6 hards and 4 softs much more friendly for me (perhaps I'm exceptionally poor at tyre management!).

I tried a race C earlier, before work, got pointed off in the first hairpin after the degnas on lap 1 would you believe

Then a setup I found on Reddit for race A, spun it on the first corner and quilted outa that 🤣

I’m going back to race B with the expectation to just try and finish a race

But this is not my week it’s clear to say

1 lap on hards and 9 with softs with a 5x tire wear multiplier?
Well, good luck with that :D
Thats not possible mate, not even with alien skills.

The most optimistic strategy seems to be 4 on hards but you have to be really good saving tires because the last lap will be tough.
5/5 is the most balanced strat and 6/4 the recommended if you are not good enough saving tires.

We do have strategy this week with 3 possible pit windows and plenty of competitve cars (AMG, GTR, 911, BMW, RCF, RCZ, RS01, 650S). The BOP seems to work fine here and IMO this is the best C race that we had in a long time.

Man this week is totally different than the last! I quite enjoyed Lago Maggiore but after doing 1 lap at Willow on main, something told me the insta-kill dangers of dipping a tire on the sand would dominate the races. Hopped into 2nd account and with the death-traps and narrow track, my suspicions were confirmed and there's no way I will try another Race B again this week. 💩

Then at Suzuka, I am actually feeling very comfortable with many different cars! The Lambo, NSX, R8, GTR and M6 all suit my style and my times for all cars are maybe within a bracket of 0.2s - with the M6 being the fastest. Problem is, I am nowhere to being close to the best times and no idea how I am 2s slower than the top 😱🤯⚰️ ... A bit extreme to be honest. And since I always start at best P8 even when I am in the top 300 times, it's guaranteed I will be last every time I do a Race C 😟

Well done @Childe Roland btw, came close a few times but could never complete a "perfect" lap 🤣
