Did 2 Bathurst races yesterday evening. People are still learning the combo I think because the field was quite spreaded (both races full DR B / SR S lobbies). First race I started P8. Because someone pushed me into the wall at forest's elbow and because I spun I finished P9.

Second race I started P6. Could stay out of trouble and for a large portion of the race I was P5 with P6 about 7 seconds behind. After the leader spun in lap 9 I encountered him on the back straight. Just gave him some bump drafts because he was generally quicker than me, and I was already happy with P5 and I didn't want to fight and risk a crash. In the last lap I binned it myself though. Took me 10 seconds to get away again on the narrowest part of the track, but only got overtaken by 1 car. So all in all I finished where I started: P6. Apart from the little push in race 1 some very clean racing. Nice experience!

I’m loving daily race A this week. Only looked at it this evening. Got my basic tune and then looked at some of the top guys to see their suspension set up. I actually found the one used by @Nebuc72 worked for me. Killer time by the way.

Did my own tune for gearing. My fastest time was actually a different tune which I somehow lost but my current one is more drivable so I’m happy.

Did 2 races. The first I finished 4th by picking up a track limit penalty on the last lap so I lost my 3rd spot. The second race I finished 3rd, 2 higher than I started.

On the second hairpin I’m torn between drifting it and power sliding it in 1st. Sometimes I mix it up. Drifting can work well when the car in front goes wide. Now this is what I call an overtake :D

GT7 | Daily Race A | Eiger - Now that is how you overtake!

I love that you can actually save your times with this one. That should be available on ever timer race.

I found the hydraulic handbrake improved drifting performance.

And setting the degrees of rotation to 720° on my wheel, tightened up the steering making the switchbacks a lot more manageable.

Here's my gearing if you want to compare, not sure why the data logger neglects only this from the setups!

Shifting wise with the low rpm it's important to shift REAL early, like ideally just before you can see any red on the shift bar at all.

I said earlier to not use wide offset but I am using it now with the higher ride height to compensate, helps a lot with stability and keeping the car pointed.

Happy to see PD sticking with tuning races, had fun tweaking one of the quick setups and the car is nice to drive. It's interesting watching the replays and seeing the different ride heights, corner behaviour, engines and gearing.

Eventually I hope PD will add an option to buy a top 10 car, with parts and setup. I'm sure a large % of people get put off by this step.

Spent a few hours at Bathurst last night. When I started the fields were almost entirely 911s and Beetles. By the end of the night it was about 50% 911s and the rest were Jags and Vipers. This is in B/B to B/A lobbies. Eastern US, so lots of US, Canada, and Brazil in the lobbies. Dunno if this holds true for other regions.

The Viper drivers were particularly fast and I can't figure out how they're doing it. I can't get that thing to rotate for the life of me (yes I know AT and Controller make it harder to rotate things) but they're out here dropping 2:03:000 times.

I'm still rocking the 296, got my QT down to 2:03:3
I've also had success with the BMW Endurance version. That car has a lot of grunt as well but holy cow those vipers will out drag everything including the Jag.

Interesting, all 3 races I had last night were really tight except the one where i walked away, and i only walked away because the muppets behind me took each other out.

That's a very solid QT, no idea how you get that 296 to work for you! Power does matter in the races, as fast as the 992's are across the lap, I can take defensive lines and hold position because they cannot overhaul me down the straights. The Viper is VERY fast in a straight line but sketchy under power and tough to rotate as you said.

In real life, back in the mid 90's, "improved production" class at bathurst was always this local F360 Vs a Viper, was good racing because the Viper was incredibly fast but had no brakes and chewed through tyres and gas. Good times.

I know what you mean. I never thought I would put together my own tune!

Between a few community pointers, tooltips in the game and a sprinkling of AI guidance, I've been able to tinker with my setup almost on a race to race basis.

I would love to further optimise my settings but to be honest I've got to a point when the car feels right to me, and the time left on the table is most likely skill related anyway. It's one of my favourite vehicles in the game and it's been a pleasure working out the nuances.

I've also been impressed with the standards of race craft out there in the mountains, for the most part. Everyone seems to pardon the occasional mistake and the majority of victims are making the ground back pretty quickly after an incident anyway. There's a decent understanding, not to mention some really engaging 1v1 battles (as most races tend to play out).

Got my QT for Bathurst down to 2:02:900 with the 296. Mostly incremental improvements and mostly it's the last corner, Hell Corner, and the corner to enter the mountain itself after Mountain Straight were I'm finding the most time. The rest of the lap across the top is pretty much optimized except the Dipper but nobody can optimize that abomination :D

Just got out of another lobby. Finally back to B/S. Love this place.
I was the fastest of 5 296 drivers. There rest were either Porsche '22 or Mercedes '20 models with the Mercedes on Pole with a 2:02:6

I improved my time at Eiger after playing with my gearing more and remembering to shift up at 6400rpm.

I wasn’t thinking my time was all that great until I looked on the global board and then found myself at 180. So I did a couple races.

As is the state of Daily Race A, after Tuesday most of the talent leaves. There were only one or two other competitive drivers. Most were B or C, 2 to 4 seconds back. That’s a shame.

Funnily, as is often the case I still managed to find a couple of drivers faster than me. I started 2nd and 3rd on my two races and ended 2nd in both.
There were DR gains but given the field I’d be surprised if I’d got more than 1% per race, even for second.

Still I enjoy the race. I still haven’t nailed the switchbacks so that adds variability and skill build opportunity. 👍

I had an unbelievable racing session last night at Eiger Norwand, culminating in 4 consecutive Top-3 finishes against some really good drivers. The battles were intense for 6 laps, all clean and fair and very very HARD! Some of these quali times really show how fast people can be, but you really earn your crust out on the track with others. It was really interesting to see the differences in performance between players' various setups, and learning where your own car excels compared to others. It's also really good to feel like you're competing at a level where you belong.

Anyway, this happened:
:) (not once, but twice in a row)

Props to all the drivers involved, they were hard earned wins!

Man you're flying. I can't beat my 2.03.1 and tbh it's a bit too fast as I am struggling in races. I am as fast as anyone in BS or A/B lobbies IF I don't make mistakes, but I keep making small errors and I get mugged. I tried the RCZ (understeer) and really tried to get the 992 to work for me but nope, Jag just suits me better.

I am losing a lot of time exiting T1 and through Sulman Park (2nd of the 3 fast left handers), I either turn in too early or too late at Sulman and have to lift which REALLY bleeds time. I am very fast across skyline and into the dipper, often gaining 3+ tenths on competing cars as the Jag is very stable so I can be very brave.

WHat is your PSN sig? Surely we must be in the same rooms?

PSN is HK / hollowkatt

Had a lobby last night where the pole sitter in the Jag had a 2:02:1xx and that guy was flying in race trim as well. Dunno how he was getting the Jag to rotate as well as he did but wow.

After doing my first Q runs this week I went back here and really watched the Tidgney video for the tips for the week for turn in and brake points. I basically have been practicing T1 all week long so far and the peculiarities of the Ferrari are really good here.

I think it's because of the limitations of controller + car characteristics that I'm not struggling as much in T1 as I would otherwise. The Ferrari is really really good on corner exit traction. Takes a pretty severe steering angle and lead foot to make the rear break loose so because controller is forcing me to take a wider more square entry by the time I've rotated through I'm doing about 60mph mid corner and exiting the curb section about 80ish.

My time to the first timing point from lap start is between 19:3 and 19:1 on average.

For climbing the mountain my main struggle point is The Cutting. I can't seem to get a good grasp on how to exit Quarry and approach Cutting and so I'm basically operating on muscle memory through there to not bin the thing.
The Ferrari loves from Griffins all the way through Skyline. Rotates very well and as long as I get the turn-in timing right through Reid Park I know the top of the mountain is going to be fast. Rarely have to lift there.

I am finding more and more front engine cars moving to the top steps of the podium the last two nights. Monday it was almost all 992/Beetle lobbies, by last night half the lobby was in a front engine car. Main contenders have been Viper, Mercedes '20, BMW Endurance, and the Jag.

I think the 992 is probably the easiest car to be reasonably fast in this week but the Front Engines are where the real fast times are located.

See I am averaging about a 19.4 in race trim for S1 and losing a couple of tenths to beetles and 992s. The Jag hauls arse so can still pass but making life hard for myself.

So far in race c, I prefer the AMG over the Porsche. The Porsche is good but it being more understeery due to less weight at the front make it hard to correct for me (maybe because I’m on controller). I find that the AMG allows for more room in inconsistency in the mid speed top of the mountain section. This is just my take…

Yeah I'm seeing more and more people abandoning the 992 in my lobbies. The top leaderboards are still full of them. 992 and Beetle dominate the top positions globally.

I also see some WRX in the top 100 global and omg that car sucks around Bathurst. Really hasn't been a great GT3 ever but currently I think it's garbage.

I'm seeing a lot of Audi R8s popping up today. 1-2 total yesterday and now there's 4 of them in the last 2 lobbies I was in over lunch time.

I think overall the fastest possible times will be set by mid/rear engine cars just because of how important not losing time over top is. If you can make more time there than the front engine cars can on the straights you're golden.

Also that Audi is bad fast everywhere. Great acceleration, top speed, and rotates across the top well. Might spend some time in that this evening getting a handle on it.

That has been my experience. Really good, clean, intense racing. It’s been stellar.

I’m liking DR and SR being switched on for A. It keeps the crash and punt crowd at bay.

The WRX is the car that Cyrus is recommending as the anti-meta and I think thats why its gaining popularity on the leaderboard.

Yes, the Audi is really good here. If the Beetle gets without slip you can easily "smoke" them on the straight.

Sums up my luck this week 🙄

I avoid those short races like the plague.
Everybody is on despair, like running away from an alien invasion a tornado or another natural catastrophe

EDIT: Im editing the post just for a little rant.
Im seeing people in race C with bad qualy times and starting from the back deciding to pit really late (lap 6 or later) and they found themselves in the middle of the leading pack when they are getting out of the pits at lap 5.
Some of them try to fight the leaders but that is a fight that is not theirs.

Yes, everybody is entilted to pit whenever they want but please be smart.
Those tyres are cooked and even with good tyres they usually dont have the pace of the people who are fighting for the podium... whats the joy in ruining other races?
Please dont be that guys!

Pit when you want, but if you find yourself in that situation in a track like this just let them go and continue with your race

No, because braking technique, that’s the point of high simulation physics models. It’s car traits, brake smoother and earlier. Smash the brakes then understeer is always gonna be their.

I’ll do a few laps in the morning but if it’s at the top end in GR3 it’s probably because it’s stronger than most tour driver cars:manus

I found a new way of playing the Daily Races, I turn off the Race Info on my HUD. I find that the stress of knowing what position you are and how close behind the next guy is was getting too much and therefore I turned it off, all I have is car info.

When I have to stop for pitting I do see where I am on the leaderboard and I am usually surprised to see how high I got since I do not have a qual time, I'm in the back at start and work my way forward....
Another thing about the Gr.3 cars, DO NOT use the Suzuki, it's good in turns but it's speed is slower than Gr.4 cars! In my opinion it's a 🐷

That’s how it is in VR, not a damn clue 🕵️‍♂️ about how far ahead or behind! 🤣🤡

CONNECTION LOST

Can anyone shed some light on a weird occurance today (this has happened twice before today) that happened in Race B (Watkins).

Two races in a row on the very first lap going into the chicane, my screen turned grey and the next thing I know is that I'm in the wall with front end and engine damage - race over.

I can practice just fine.., Race C doesn't seem to be a problem, just Race B at exactly the same spot in the chicane on the first lap.

Is this some new server issue (one of many)? Or some new phenomenon? Please help. Thanks

There's not really "servers" in that sense in Daily Races.

As always - and as you seem to be experiencing "many" issues with connectivity - have you tried this?

I use two anti meta cars (imo) for Race C. The Viper & the RCZ.

Viper is a sweet surprise. Firstly, it's a FR car so it wants to turn in the slow & medium speed turns. Secondly, it probably is the second fastest Gr.3 car here (behind the Supra). It's like a rocket on the long back straight which can be very handy.

The RCZ is a revelation for this race. Great acceleration, stable through S2 & it has marvelous brakes making late braking a breeze. I'm scoring decent to good results in this car.

P.S. - I saw Calster's live stream yesterday where he was trying various cars which the users watching the stream could choose. One of them was the BMZ Z4 & that car again is amazing.
