It definitely falls into the category of 'simple' old school tracks that punish any off track mistakes with a hammer. Always good to hang around 90 to 95 pct speed. But the challenge is fun. As long as it's not getting rammed off that is causing the mistakes I enjoy the challenge even if it sometimes seems like a losing battle
One of the few circuits where “track limits” is a real thing - go over that limit and you’ll need a bucket and spade.

It would have been great actually for a tuner race A. Restrict it to US muscle cars - Corvettes, Camaros, Mustangs, etc. I find the track is even more fun in those slightly slower, tail happy machines.

I thought i would do all 3 races this week and excel at Willow Springs. Well it seems to be the worst for me. Lap 2, Turn 2 - not very smart to be on the outside line. People are agressive. Flew off and boxed frustrated after that lap.

Race 3 was fun. My rating is worse than i drive as i would be a native B driver but just came back from my second account where i platinumed the game and did all the online racing. I didnt realize that i did NONE Sports mode on my primary account. Just starting now i have a C Rating, i guess from the old GT Sports.
Managed a last to second race C with a Toyota 86.

No one is 100% safe from touching the sand. It's either saving it or losing it once you do touch the sand.

Man, today's races had been filled with M6s, save for a few BRZs (including me). Welp at least I did a 1:11.7xx lap so I should be fine for a while. Also, I'm not so sure why when I used this livery for the first time, two cars ahead of me spun out. :boggled:

I would like to know why GT7 reduces power increases the weight of cars in daily races. Maybe they are afraid that we run too fast and can get hurt?

Finally.

After two and half years I've made it to an "A" rating! Big Willow and Gr3 is awesome - love racing there (hated it when I first started playing though)

I may have made it to A earlier but I generally refuse to drive whatever the top car is in a race, and there's weeks I should likely skip as I'm crap at the tracks.
Lucky win that got me there.

Oh how I loathe Big Willow. There are like no references other than the yard markers. I went off on the last turn because someone else went off and knocked off a bunch of the yard markers and I was completely lost on where I was... got a tire off and that's all she wrote.
Turn on the braking zones. I use it all the time. It isn't always accurate, but it is a good reference if you want to brake consistently.
It will solve the problem you mentioned.

I turned that on a long time ago when the game first came out and found it to be very detracting. I did turn on the driving line for the first time on Willow because I was struggling to find the proper line. Maybe I'll try the braking zones again.

Anyone's elses connections been terrible in Race B today? My home connection seems fine but most races I'm getting people looking like they've crashed, then reappearing in front, the time gaps not working properly & other laggy issues!

I got bitten by the dreaded TCS bug today for the first time!

Totally fudged my P2 launch at Sardegna, although maybe it was a blessing in disguise, as the pole-sitter was a certain Top 40 quali troll who is obsessed with trashing everyone's race.

Oh, and @Leon Kowalski is now officially the guy who's quali I'm aiming for 😆

You got me. I tried to fight back and improved, but:

Close but no cigar😅:

Still Number 82 global, so wayyy above my paygrade.😆

I watched some replays of the fastest contenders. Seems that I have to really learn using MT. Definitely miss the ability to rotate the car by downshifting manually.

Missed out on two wins (back to back) due to incompetence in race B today. 1st someone else lost it on the last corner & took me out, the 2nd my own as I put it out wide after the slow double right & span on the last lap. Very annoying.

The track is actually growing on me, I used to hate it.

The circuit experience must be the easiest in the game, so that helps. Then in races it's pretty decent once you get away from the midfield punters - had quite a few good battles. Many, many punts when you're back down with the idiots though!

Same for me. I had some guy go completely airborne on the uphill hairpin, disappear in a cloud of dust, and reappear directly in front of me on the downhill part! What the?! I get that there’s lag, but how can the game be that bad on deciding if he’s crashed or not?! Or maybe his “return car to track” assist is just tons better than mine. . .

I’m just getting so sick of all of this. How can it be so bad after nearly six months?

Decided to dip my toes at Willow Springs to see what a race is actually like there. I had my doubts but turns out I'm not terrible at the track under race conditions. I dropped a my time to a 1:13.5XX and I think that is my limit in the Mustang at least.

Race 1 I start P12 on the grid and my strategy is to hope that everyone in front of me goes off track/rage quits and I keep it on track. Which works well enough to finish P5. I did drop my wheels off track on the last turn on the last lap, but I didn't lose control and i breathe a sigh of relief.

Race 2 has me in P14 in a stacked lobby with only a few fellow B rank drivers. I decide to just take my lumps and try to not go off track. Which is almost exactly what I did. A few close calls where I go off track, but I don't panic and keep it straight. I let faster drivers by as I can't keep up anyway. Especially on a track I struggle with. In the end I finish P11 with a clean race bonus.

And that will be it for daily races for me this week. Dragon Trail Gardens is not my favorite and I usually avoid Race A. Willow Springs is a decent track, but I'm a bit too slow to keep up in the faster rooms.

It's only been 11 years since PD has been dealing with online infrastructure. Wait another decade (and it will still be the same )

It feels like PD doesn't time stamp the telemetry from each player. That's the only explanation I can think of for cars behaving in such weird erratic patterns, out of order packets being processed without putting them in the correct order first. That and no checks whether the results are physically possible :banghead:

Polyphony Digital: Besides my 2 points made "Two easiest fixes: Singleplayer Content with fairer payout + Sports Mode Time Trial at least every week." there is one more thing, considering the Sports Mode that does bother me a lot and should be a relatively easy fix:

For the last days i dipped into DR:C and could watch the same thing i realised in DR:B. If you get races that are well balanced per DR, for example all B-ratings or all C-rating all is well and you get opponents with the same SR: S as yourself.

But if you get mixed lobbies, it's always the same pattern: higher DR with worse SR penetrate thos lobbies and i find that to be a really bad idea. Why should slower but fair players be affected by faster dirty (in general) drivers? Let the dirty drivers ONLY race other dirty drivers. And if there are not enough of the same SR, still just mix them with slower/faster but as bad SR. If there are not enough for even that, don't fill the lobby with SR:S, just let them race in half empty lobbies.

Setting a bad example by getting SR:B/C into lower DR, SR:C lobbies ruins races for slower, honest drivers and shows them, that you win through dirtyness!

Edit: Of course all of that would even make more sense if the penalty system would effectively hurt bad/dirty driving. Not like now where it doesnt work at all.

How everyone finding Race C? Just done my first two races now and it’s just crazy. It’s like BTCC back in the day with Plato vs Neal and cars just bumping and bashing each other.

Race 1 - started P12 and first lap fine. 2nd lap a few cars ahead caused an accident on the quad left hander (T3-T6) so I slowed down a bit to avoid running into someone but the car behind didn’t and did there normal speed and line through the corner, which then meant I was punted off. The car did pick up a 2 seconds penalty which didn’t help me as I’m now last. After that it just seem to be people bumping into each other lap after lap. The player in the 155 had a disliking to the GTR been P1 so took matter into own hands 3 times. 1 time they got a penalty but the next two time they got away with no penalty. This just show PD need to have a think about the penalty system. I had a Spanish person trying to force me into a wall and an Italian I’m guessing misjudged the brakes. Not a good race from my point of view. Only good thing to happen in the race was double overtake into T1.

Race 2 - did a better quali lap but only good for P10 (in a different matched lobby). This race was a bit better nothing major really happened but still had the bumping and bashing most laps. Lap 10 I’m running P7 and a Spanish car in P3 got hit and dropped down to P6. On the straight I had the run on them and was side by side into the braking zone and then the Spanish driver just decided they didn’t want to lose another place so just side swiped me. Luckily I did lose a place and only lost 3/4 seconds.

Race 1 highlights, and thoughts on the carnage.

Never thought that I could get there when I started online racing for the first time, three months ago.

Now it is time to learn driving.😆
Congrats, I'm on the opposite track from B. Been languishing in C since dropping there due to my ineptness at last week's races coupled with an unwillingness to cease activity.

cease and desist - i have quit Daily racing and am happily still in B.

Thanks a lot. I know what you're talking about. That same unwillingness cost me my first run at DR A, once upon a time in dreaded Yamagiwa.

D@mn. I said "Yamagiwa" again. Now I won't be able to sleep tonight.🤣

I started 12th with a 1:39:5 and was up to 8th by the end of lap 2. Things were looking promising, just 0.2 behind P7 and P9 was 0.5 behind. And then...

He doesn't even brake for the final chicane, knocks me off and I get damage. He and 3 others get by and no penalty for him. As I'm going round the final turn, i get hit from the side, dude goes by and again, no penalty.

I catch up to the group and I'm P12. Overtake 2 and then get hit 4 times in the space of 8 seconds. Down to P14 now and again, zero penalties. I overtake one normally and another who had a 0.5 penalty for track limits.

Final lap and P12, at least will end race same position. Nope, side-swiped again, he goes on his merry way and I finish 13th. Cheers PD, i love you.

I put some time and now on a 1:39:0 time so should start in the 5 - 7 range next time and hopefully avoid the carnage...
