Great, I've seen people in 3 different A races crashing everybody using SVT Raptors. I bet they're the same babies who did it in Forza Motorsport.
The good thing is that they can only do it in the first lap, thanks to penalties.

Did two race Cs last night starting from the back. Never thought I'd say this, but I miss Brands. :lol: First was in the Viper and I finished P6, basically getting all the passes due to others going off and pit stop strats. Second I got punted and finished last in the Vette.

Didn't bother with B. Hate Bathurst and hate the Gr4 cars. Going to be a slow (literally and figuratively) week for me.

Any word on next week's yet.... please?
 
Hit two cars at Laguna yesterday. Both spun off and came back on unghosted. Game didn’t give me a penalty (small mercy), but of course my car was damaged. Is there something wrong with the ghosting?

I'm spending all my time at Bathurst this week. It's the track I fear the most, drive the worst, but feel the best when I get even one sector spot on.
I'm not very competitive at the circuit, my qualy time is a high 2:15 and people are setting low 2:13s in the same car. I'm driving the WRX. The Alfa is too twitchy for my liking across the top of the mountain and the WRX just fits me.

I almost guarantee you are losing a lot of that time coming down the mountain through the dipper. Get off the brakes, roll through that sector, you gain GOBS of time if you don't bin it. Brake just before the audi sign, hard, then lift and coast down, tap brakes and turn right then left the gun it hard out of the dipper. The other spot is the Cutting, the double left hander, lots of time there.

As for me, mixed bag last night. I cannot seem to string a perfect lap, ran a 13.0 in the WRX but optimal is a 12.8, I keep binning the alfa but optimal is a 12.3 so i am leaving a lot of time on the table. I am finding all the cars have too much rear brake bias, it is affecting my ability to attack the dipper and REALLY hurting me at the cutting where I am sliding on the second left hander and therefore slow on the gas up the hill. This is then carried ALL THE WAY through to the dipper.

I won a race from pole as I am SRB right now but in another race, the damage was absolutely INSANELY bad. It's causing accidents because even a SLIGHT touch means one's car in undriveable, i took out no less than three cars on the main straight as i could not, for the life of me, keep my car straight. So there's a snowball effect, they need to do away with the handling issues and just cripple the engine, it's madness out there right now.
 
I smacked a wall at Mt. Panorama yesterday. My car got damage that made it pull to the right. So then I grazed a wall with the other side of my car. With equal damage on both sides of my car, it drove normally.
I didn't do it on purpose, but maybe next time, I will.
Could be a strategy for mitigating the poor handling caused by damage. :D

Life hack. GRAZE the wall on the right as you enter reid park (the brown undies right after the cutting just before reid park, the first of the fast left handers), this causes your car to pull to the left, making it easier to flow through the fast sulman park and mcphillamy left handers.

Well at least you are much more consistent than me. My optimal is 12.9, but my actual time is 13.5. I always ruin one sector. If I got the mountain sector right, there's no way I nail the final left-right. 😅

Edit: I spent another 20 laps and finally got to 12.9. Which was a bit weird because it didn't feel like a great lap in the process. All the time I was like, damn, I have already hit that exit better, this corner was another 3 tenth lost, and I even shifted into the wrong gear before the dipper and had a hard time not losing it... nearly missed the top 1000, which would have felt like quite an achievement in relation to my modest abilities.

Not sure I'll be racing these much this week, they're all a bit meh ultimately. Race A would be fun if the cars had less power as people have been saying, the driving is a bit clunky on such a short circuit with such chunky cars. B is alright, but I don't enjoy Gr.4 in the state that it's in - and whilst I love the combo of C I don't have much time for them right now! :(

Set a 1:20.659 for quali in C though so hopefully that plops me in a good spot when I do get the chance.
 
I noticed that Race A has DR and SR rating changes turned off. Is this always the case for Race A? Ive been wondering why my ratings havent changed and why Race A is always a ******** regardless of the SR rating of the other drivers and I'm wondering if that could be the reason.

Since May 30, yes - except for one week in September.

Thanks, that's some solid advice for the downward trip, I appreciate it! For sure I'm losing time there. I'm sliding into Skyline either from jamming too hard on the brakes or getting my steering inputs wrong which then compromises entry into the dipper. Once I get settled through the dipper I'm good through the rest of the lap, it's really Skyline entry --> Esses --> Dipper that catches me out the most. I'm going to spend some time tonight just running qualifying laps to learn the track and my points better.

I agree with you with regards to damage. I saw several cars ahead of me going off track because of a bump from an already damaged car trying to navigate straight down Conrod and with an already narrow track being wobbly and unpredictable is just a nightmare. I've caused a few cars to go off myself trying to just go in a straight line from damage. Killing/slowing the engine for a second or two seems to be a better idea than nerfing handling.

This reminds me of when I was a kid, I had these little toy cars that when you hit the bumper on something, the car exploded.

Question: How do you guys learn the names of all the turns on a track? I'm fairly new to all this, so it's kind of a mystery to me.

Another question: I'm doing OK with the Alpha Romeo, but it looks like the Atenza and the WRX fill out most of the top of the leaderboard. I can't do nearly as well with either of these cars. Since I'm new to SR in general, I'm not sure how to drive them to their best advantages. Any advice on how to learn these cars? Thanks.
 
Got away with one then on race c, some moron bashed me off road 2nd to last corner, went from 5th to 9th, finished race...thankfully others infront didn't use the required tires, finished 4th👍

I tend to go for what feels right, I don't really care for what is the 'meta' car, or whatever. Just try some out and see which works best for you.
 
Having great fun on the Bathurst race B! Sweating like mad across the top of the mountain each lap, hoping not to bin it!!

There are a few cars that feel good for me, though the Mazda, the G70 and the Alfa feel the most stable across the top, the Merc was pretty good also. Some of my friends are quick in the Ferrari, but I wasn't into it. In theory, the Porsche should be good also but I haven't tried it yet. Currently managed a 2m11.3 in the Mazda, with an optimal just in the 10s...
 
Only time for one race this evening as I had errands to run and such after work. I did get my qualifying time down to a 2:14.4XX which was nice.

I enter the race and it hangs up as someone had connection issues and got booted. I start in P2 and we get underway with huge gaps between everyone. I get a fantastic 1 second penalty for cutting the corner in The Dipper which I forgot you could do. Next lap I have some trouble with the Chase and P3 gets by. The new P4 makes a lunge on my inside at turn 1 and we collide. I don't appreciate that and give them a love tap as we start down the straight. It was enough to spin them out and have them visit Mr. Barry R. Way too aggressive on my part, but making a pass like that is stupid to me.

Anyway, I cruise in P3 having a few minor problems coming down the mountain costing me some time, but no wall contact so that's a win in my book. But, I just touch the grass entering The Chase and I go for a ride. I went a bit too wide setting up my entry. I get back on track and finish P4 to my disappointment. Still a good race for me despite my troubles. I need more practice with The Chase as it gave me tons of problems tonight. I also really enjoy driving the WRX as I didn't give it a chance in GT7 before or GT Sport. I think it's easy to drive and handles well. Looking forward to more races tomorrow.
 
Thought I'd get in on Race A the last couple of days before it became too much of a one make. I definitely think the current parameters of tuning races is a lot better than the exploits seen in the past.

I decided to go with cars I thought would be quick but not meta, first the R34 for which I could do mid-56s optimum (which I think made me the fastest R34 going), but it was fairly unruly getting to that pace. This game just hates anything font engined with the drive slightly rearwards, had it 50/50 4WD and the rear still would break loose. Moved to the R8, of which I thought the V10 (because torque is king) was in the game but clearly not. Much more comfortable to get performance out of, yet somehow had a more planted rear (with 35/65 4WD) than the GTR yet understeered more despite the GTR having a Inline 6 over the front axle, go figure.

There's a selection of cars where you can run competitive mid-57 laps, like I was even getting the Taycan to that pace, but to win you've got to be in the 56s and in an Aventador or R35, so I'm done with Race A for the week. I'm a principled man.

Interesting night. Played ping ping in the first race and finished 13th then managed 3rd, 2nd, 2nd and 1st and pulled myself up from srb to srs. I am definately now favoring the alfa over the wrx, I can't drive the antenna to save my life, I suspect the AT gearing is rubbish.

The key to keeping out of trouble in qualifying, I managed a 12.8 and the few tenths to a 13.0 often gained me a few spots at the start.
 
I need to get a decent technique for going down the Mountain, I've done a semi decent quali (2:11.1) but I seem to vary so much each time on that section often binning it, I need to get it nailed before I contemplate doing some races :ouch:

At least the WRX sounds and looks nice. Kinda wish the tuning system wasn't this exploitable but a couple decent little battles happen in the back so whatever.
 
The easiest car I have driven for Race A. It steers well with the throttle and won't just suddenly break loose like the other R35s.

Normal '17 GTR with all aero parts, widebody, wide wheels. The Safety Car is a bit faster but harder to be consistent so my pace setter will probably be the pace car, but my race win getter will be this. The NISMO is slighty better handling but slowest on the straight and needs 30 for rear ballast while the others are the same tune as the previous video with 50.

For racing, this car does way better in a pack then my other cars but is still slower off the line and on straights than the Aventador so no promise of getting away quick. It seems to carry more mid corner speed than the rest so I had to wait a lot because attempting to be brave seems to get most people mad even near the end of the last corner on the last lap with me almost getting shoved into the invisible wall someone took offense to being passed. I think some people just don't want to get beat by the less expensive car.
 
Got a W in the Vette last night. I set my quali time in the Viper and can't remember what it was, honestly... mid-to-low 21s. Good enough to start P2.

The Vette just drives so well. It handles great; suffers from some understeer and it's not as easy to rotate as the Porsche, but one could say that about virtually all the Gr3 cars. It does eat tires, too... so I had to do a 6/8 strat but I am getting kinda sick of the Porsche. Everyone else who finished - less one person who got lapped in the M6 - was in the Porsche.

You're not getting any sympathy if you're doing 11s. I can't get any of the three competitive cars to brake at the cutting or the dipper, the rear always wants to swing round. I can only brake dead straight which is murdering my times.
 
I just need to get this off my chest. I have a B/S rating right now (or maybe it's a B/A, but whatever). I'm reasonably new to sim racing. Yesterday I was doing race b, and I qualified in third place behind two drivers with q times more than a second better than me. They obviously know each other, because they chat back and forth before the race.

Anyway, the guy in second had some trouble coming up to The Cutting, and I passed him (didn't have much choice, actually). He recovered and took the inside around the tight corner. We made contact, and I ended up spinning out and smashing hard into the wall. I can't say for certain who was at fault - I didn't save the replay because I just quit the race - but it certainly wasn't malicious on my part. I was pissed at the other guy, but I suppose he didn't do anything wrong since I apparently gave him an opening.

So in multiple races that followed, the 2 leader guys kept tagging me and telling me to race clean, as though I had done something wrong to them. I told them I didn't do anything malicious, and one of them said "yeah, right". I was so mad I couldn't see straight. I mean, don't people realize that sometimes, accidents happen because people aren't aliens? It's not like we were A+ racers, so obviously we make mistakes.

I ended up ignoring them, but it still makes my blood boil. I mean, if they think I'm a dirty driver, then maybe I should show them just how dirty I can be! (Not really, but you know what I mean.)

Whew. I hope getting this off my chest helps lower my blood pressure. Thanks for letting me vent. Not that you had much choice... :lol:

out of curiosity are you the GrumpyOldMan who's got the Black (I think) Alfa that says GrumpyOldMan, has an old balding guy picture on it, I think on the side?
If so I'm sincerely sorry for the contact we had a day or so ago. I tried saying something in the post race chat but you'd left by the time I finished using the controller to type.

I love your livery on your car, it's amazingly well done, and you drive really well. It was a pleasure to race you.
