Race Stage Route X is not a good event for the car they provided. Great fun would be given with a hypercar or Group 1 car.

I almost cried about 30 mins ago 😀

I was thrilled that after a few weeks, my good friend @kowalski__1 managed to beat my time in Kyoto! It meant that the "challenge" was finally back, which I honestly love as I always found it helps me to improve so much! The leap in time is not my sudden increase in skills but the upgrade from the G29 to the DD Pro, btw! Yeah @Talon16 and @Nebuc72 are there too but I am also realistic 😂

My best time at Kyoto was a 1:41:6 and I was beaten by a 1:41:5 so it was time to sit down and drive and cry as I was pushing to the absolute limit for about 10 laps, always getting the McLaren upside down, on fire and looking more like an old Fiat Panda 😂 And then, it finally happened... Nearly lost it a few times but managed to keep the car on the track and set a 1:41:0 and tears of joy ran down my face!

I then hopped into 2nd account, which is now also A/S rated lol and started a Race B as I was tired of Kyoto and ended up starting P11 in a lobby with Gallo in pole position! Obviously never saw him during the race 😂 But I did have a good race myself and finished P7 😀 Will upload that later haha

The leap in time is not my sudden increase in skills but the upgrade from the G29 to the DD Pro
I'm currently on G29. I'm hoping (expecting?) to get the DD GT Pro for my birthday next week. Also hoping to get the mid range CSL Elite Pedals V2 as well over just adding the load-cell to the DD GT Pro.

I know there are a lot of people that are fast on the G29 but for me, I feel the dead zone in the center and the clunkiness is limiting my ability to progress. I'm looking for some smoothness throughout its rotation. Also, while I've played with many settings I just don't feel the feedback in a way that I find usable. Perhaps that is me not understanding how to read the feedback, but it doesn't feel like a real car...

I'm encouraged by your feedback on the boost in lap time having switched!

I feel somewhat the same. My G29 is now getting on a bit and I feel the brakes on it is my main weakness. I can't afford to upgrade at the moment but will still try my best to keep on getting better.

The biggest improvement I did to my G29 was putting a load-cell in for the brake and changed the springs for the accelerator. That made a lot of difference. I actually don't mind the pedals and considered the Logitech Pro wheel and keeping my pedals but it is so many $$$ and also there is no selection of wheels. In the end I think the DD GT Pro with the CSL Elite V2 pedals comes in at the same price at the Logitech wheel and the 5NM will not stress my Playseat Challenge. I might upgrade to 8NM down the road if I see that my chassis can handle it.

However this is really a discussion for the Sim gear forum. We're getting off topic...

I did a brake mod on my G29 pedals as I, too, believed the brake pedal was the system's biggest weakness. For $20 I figured why not try it? I like it so much more now. With the mod set you can tinker with the set up to get it how you want it. Basically, I put in a stiffer spring and got rid of the rubber buffer, so there is a little more resistance but a lot more travel (I never liked the "two-stage" feel of the pedal with the rubber buffer). I also did not use the o-ring as it made the pedal way too stiff for my liking.

I tried posting the link from Amazon but it isn't coming though. If you search for "MORICHS Glodorm Upgrade Mod Brake Pedal" you'll see it.

The longer travel and lighter pedal is counter-intuitive to what most people prefer, but I like it. YMMV. I do have the Logi G Pro wheel now, as of a few months ago, but am still using the G29 pedal set.

Something to consider if you, understandably, don't have the fun-money to drop on a whole new setup!

Started running race C today, and not having as much luck as last week. Hasn't helped that as a C rated driver, I keep getting put in races with mostly B drivers, where my QT is only good enough to get in the back half of the pack. I guess the good news is that I'm not making too many errors, and at least seem to be holding on to my starting position.

I've raced Yamagiwa before, and always enjoyed it for a fictional track. Reverse has mostly the same feel, but that chicane before the uphill really seems to get me. Can't find a good balance between when to brake and still have a reasonably fast and controlled run through the chicane. Oh well, going to work on improving the QT tomorrow, and see if that helps.

Yeah that chicane is tough. I found the best braking point for consistency for me is near the base of the hill as I'm rounding the right hand turn entrance into the chicane, there's a brief point where you can straighten the vehicle aiming at the apex of the left where you have enough time to brake and navigate through the chicane. I've been lifting as soon as I get to the curb/kerb section on the right hand side but it might be possible to keep the throttle down longer, I've just been focusing on consistency there because of how easy it is to mess up that section.

You'd think I'd be happy with this, since this is the best I've finished in a month:

But considering where I was here on the last lap:

Seconding the benefit of a load cell pedal conversion on the G29 as @TheNormsk said. I was super hesitant (and when I say hesitant, I mean like 7 years hesitant 😬), but after a little calibration adjustment of both the pedal and the driver, I wouldn’t go back. Probably took me an hour to fit it, and another hour to get it to my liking (I have max braking at 28% travel), and tried it on the recent Watkins Glen TT, and found 0.4 to 0.5sec improvement almost immediately. The ability to better modulate trail braking is key. I got this one…

And while I had the pedals apart, I did the throttle potentiometer upgrade as well.

@TheNormsk Good race at SSRX. 👍
I was there with you, on my alt account: TPC_Vigilante.
Good racing! I was not recognizing the name at first but figured it must have been a GTP comrade. That was surprisingly entertaining.

First race I forgot to shift gears as I was on controller via PS Remote Play (and I'm not used to controller) and dropped to something like 9th but then worked my way up to 3rd approaching the last corner. I hit the nitro probably a 1/2 second too early as I thought I could carry my speed getting the jump but ran out at the last moment losing 1st spot to 2nd by just 0.005 second!!!! That was the closest finish ever.

Second race I forgot to shift from 5 to 6th and dropped back and then no one would work together and bump draft and we lost the pack. Came in 10th...

Third race, I worked myself up to (I think) third approaching last turn and was setting myself up for the jump like the first race when I slipped out of the pack. I tried to get back in but got closed out my others that jumped in my spot. I started to slip back and trying to get back in the pack I ended up catching my rear on someone and spun, crashing out. I quit that one..

This is the only race I can do on a controller. No need for brakes and once up to top gear, no need to change gear. Then it is just steering precision and waiting for the right time to hit the nitro. There is a surprising amount of strategy. One thing I learned is that you don't want to be in first place entering the last turn. I think 2nd or 3rd is the sweet spot as it's a game of cat and mouse at that point. Of course, I never won so

That sucks. I've never been on P1 on race B but I've been 2nd and done just that last lap as well. It's very easy to spin/hit the apex on that corner and then you lose all your speed into the uphill.

Race B Mountain Reverse - 458 Italia Gr.3 - Logitech G923:
Slightly improved my quali time today, 1:55:low I can't remember but almost 1:54, took my time to learn the right feeling with the brake but I'm learning and that makes me really happy...I don't wanna repeat the same thing over and over but...it's been only my fourth day using the wheel, and I love that.
Everytime I play I feel more confident.
It's a different game, different world, different everything, I wasn't expecting something like this, it's a massive change...in better, wow.

So, three races, starting from 5th to 10th place, only the second one was good and I finished third, the first I was trashed in the early part of the race and in the last same situation but later, finished almost last.
Called it a day still in D middle and S.

Dumb question....the alt accounts thing. I totally get people having different region alts (though I have no idea how it's done...I'd actually consider this one). But why do people have alt accounts for their own region? To protect their DR for championship races?

Not a dumb question. Although I haven't used my alt account for a while, when I did use it, it was because that week's race was one of those that killed your DR and/or SR, and I didn't want to lose my hard-earned DR/SR position just because a race was stupid. It let me do the race without worrying about the impact on my stats.

And one time, I used my alt account because someone decided to make it their life's mission to ruin every race I was in, so I figured it would be better to be incognito. And it was better, for sure. Fortunately they eventually found other people to antagonize. The lesson I learned was to not respond to nasty chat messages - it just pours fuel on the fire. You can't argue with stupid.

I have an account in each region, with my main being in the Americas. As soon as I get my oceanic account to “A”, I’ve accomplished my goal of having an A account in all regions, mainly for GTWS events. I’ll then create one more alt - most likely in Europe, just to have to use on races that are on tracks I don’t really know and/or DR-killer weeks.

Reason why I’m going to go with a euro account, is because their playerbase is the largest, and therefore you can find full lobbies pretty much anytime of the day

I have an alt for another region, but this week is the first time I've considered establishing one for my home region.

The reason is that there is an egregious troll appearing in lots of the races and I am very sorely tempted to make an account that specializes in "stewarding" to ease the pain on the innocent victims.

@TheNormsk good seeing you this evening in B race. Only got in two races tonight because race 1 worked and then race 2 got hung up and I waited until just before the race I saw you in was nearly ready to start. Everyone quit but me and 1 other but after I finally quit I checked and I lost 200 DR because of the hung race.

I spent a bunch of time trying to qualify better in another car and ended up staying with the RCZ 🙄

Watched the replay and got to see how things went for you in the stacked lobby. Looked like you were holding your own well and advanced until you got taken down near the tunnel. Also nice save on the final lap when the same guy almost took you a second time.

Always great seeing gtp members out there!

🍻

Good to see you as well; it's always fun to come across a fellow GTPer. That was a competitive lobby for me. I did three races with the last ending with a win, so a good night! The hung race sucks for you though.

Race 1

Jumped on with 15s to start. Went from Q7 to P5 in an uneventful clean race with CRB.

Race 2

I put some more QT in and took my time down to 1:51.888 (nipping at your heels now @GrumpyOldMan). Entered the lobby and there are 7 DR A drivers with 6 ahead of me. Yikes!
Gran Turismo® 7_20230705225021.jpg

@Gearbanger was in that one. Recognized the PSN handle but forgot the association to GTP handle. Said Hi anyway. Start of the race I was competitive with close racing. Moved from Q9 to 7th but lap 2 put my wheels on the grass at the bottom of hill and slipped back to 9th. At top of the hill I got hit in the side turning into the tunnel dropping me to 11th. In the lobby afterwards I blamed the car behind but looking at replay it was not them and was another car on the inside of them. Then in the S between tunnels I got hit again. That was a rough stretch...

In the end I traded places a few time and yes, the car I thought hit me the first time but didn't, hit me at the bottom of the hill and took himself out and I was fortunate to save it. I finished the race in 10th. DR points was awash due to the high split lobby but I felt I could have stayed in 7th if not for the initial hit...

Race 3

I thought about quitting for the night there but I thought I can get one more in. Started Q2 and was all over the back of P1 though lap 1. Lap 2, P1 drifts wide and puts himself on the grass on the second right hander and I jump to P1. I pull out a 4.5s lead over P2 but last lap, I ease off so as not to do a Grumpy :D. I win with a 2.5s lead! My first in months (on this account) and also in a B lobby.

My climb up the B ranks has been going well thanks to race B this week. Each time I've made significant progress it has been down to a particular race that just gelled with me. This is one of those weeks it seems.

Fit in a couple of Race C last night. Got lucky with the lobbies in the first and started 3rd! 😁 Managed to hold on to second and had a good battle, but realised it was slowing me down so pit a little early to get a clearer track. Got into another battle a few laps later and towards the end, climbed back up to 3rd. That became second as it turned out one of the cars in front hadn't pitted at all, so thanks for that!

Second race I started in 10th and had some great fun battles all the way through. Pulled myself up to 7th in that one despite some very stiff competition. I had nice clean racing all the way through, couple of bumps here and there but nothing deliberate. But in the lobby someone else had obviously not had the same experience at all and was letting everyone know.

I was going to end it there and just put in some laps at trial mountain, but then I felt like I got the hang of this layout a bit better, so jumped in a race. Started P14 for this one, which made me think I would need more practice after all! But the race was great again, and I managed to gain 5 positions to finish 9th with a clean race bonus too.

Feeling a bit more solidly in B this week. Maybe I can stay in there for a bit! 😆

Do SR ratings mean anything anymore? I see a lot of childish nonsense in sport mode in the last three weeks. If I wanted this kind of driving game I would get Forza Horizon or Mario Cart or something.

I'm looking for improvement at RaceC. Particularly there are 2 turns where I still cannot identify a good reference to start turning, finding myself therefore very inconsistent and offline.

The first one is the second last corner (grab from youtube, it's not me)
1688632370442.png

I know I wanto to clip the curb with the left wheel to position myself to steer as less as possible to gain speed for the main straight, but I cannot see the curb, and this "blindness" makes me very tentative.
Are you aiming at something to nail it?

The second one is the turn just after the tunnel of the opposite straight
1688632609730.png

I'm driving from the cockpit (and I'd like not to change this). The left windshield pillar completely hides the turn. I have to identify something in the background to help me.

Thanks

No, it's all wrong. I see a lot of A S and A+ S who forcefully take the inside, pushing you on the grass or even worse making you crash into a wall, and get away with it. No penalty, nothing. And the innocent driver not only loses speed, time and other cars overtake, but also gets mechanical damage from the impact(s). (and possibly also doesn't get the clean race bonus, but this is debatable)
This week is unbelievable: 1st corner of the 1st lap of Trial Mountain reverse, for example. They all want to take the inside. No brain detected. And it is not a question of mistakes while braking and inexperience. If they're A S / A+ S they perfectly know how to brake, in that particular corner. They just don't want to. And after they do that, they don't even apologize. You calmly show them their mistake, and they reply to you with "lear to drive". Unbelievable. This is all about arrogance, rudeness.

Then there are the unjust penalties...
Last week I got a 5 or 6 sec penalty for not respecting a yellow flag that appeared all of the sudden while on the corkscrew. Yesterday on Trial Mountain there was a car in front of me that spun out and moved from the right side of the road to the left, where I was. While spinning out, it crashed into me a millisecond before getting ghosted, and I received a 2 seconds penalty.

Done my first Daily Races in a while last night.

Daily A - done a few of these during the week. Simple but fun tactical race really. Been racing these in VR which is pretty fun. Managed a win in the R34

Daily B - so Trail Mountain Reverse is not my favourite layout. If it had been the normal layout I’d have been racing this a lot. Only done 2 races on this combo after 11pm and it seem pretty dirty. Lap 1 on both races 4/5 cars were punted off. Might done a few more but my pace is pretty slow round here so I’m only fight for a top 10

Daily C - well this surprised me really. Not a big fan of this track in the normal configuration due the to 2 chicanes, but in reverse I find the track works well. Just don’t have the pace. Again I’m fighting for the last 6 spots. In the 1 race I did I was up to 8th on the final lap just after I pitted, it I didn’t change tyres. The last lap was awful, worn cold tyres. Ended up spinning on the S’s at the end of the lap and finished P12. I guess you change tyres on this combo?
Also my race pace is poor. I’m lapping in 44’s were as the top 5 last night were lapping in 41s/42s. Full DR B lobby.

I have a few different accounts and at first it was because I had no idea how online gaming worked so I created a separate account for racing. I also have one for when I have been drinking too much. Last but not least I made one for friends and family that wanted to try online gaming/racing.
It’s incredibly silly when you really think about it. Honestly I do like having a different account for when I race at odd hours.
