So what are the opinions on Race C this week? I like it so far, but the first two laps or so can be very tricky with the long straights and hard brakingzones. I've seen some punting, i've been punted... But in general I'm enjoying it.

I've been gaining an appreciation for Road Atlanta thanks to the Gr 4's speed and knack of finding a rhythmic groove around a circuit, at least in time trial, in race it's largely what I was bothered with the the first time it was put in a daily - it's a shovefest with no room and no run off to recover.

RBR is still a chore for me in GT cars, it's an odd one because it's a favourite from the F1 games but for some reason I can't get into it at these speeds and unfortunately it is a divebomb fest on almost every corner. The tire strategy gives it a little flavour this time so I may give it a few more goes at least but roll on next week for me.

I'm really liking Road Atlanta as a course even though my times are not great around there. I ended up doing three race Bs last night and ended up with P10, P12 and P5; all with CRBs. It's a hard one to overtake on though for me with the downhill straight into the left/right being the only spot that really works for me.

Ok does anyone else hate RBR,Monza and the LeMans tracks? I don’t like tracks that are all about long straights and hard braking zones.

I'm with you I really dislike RBR. Perhaps I just need to drive it more but I just do not find speed there and so I am usually at the back/last in any races I've done in the past.
 
I have to say, talking about opinions on RBR... I love time trialling there but the races can definitely be hit and miss. You're required to drive in a certain way to be fast (go mad wide at every corner entry and obliterate the kerbs), and it allows for plenty of ill-advised pass attempts AKA divebombs at inappropriate places.

I fell in love with lapping there when we had Daily Race A in the Impreza 22B, and the races weren't half bad either.
 
Well after a 100 or so races since early March I think I can say I found my level. I appear to be a lowly B ranked driver.

I guess the only way to know is to drive more races. I'll either gain until I can't or fall until I don't and bobble around. One thing I've taken away from this was that I used to worry when my DR fell. Now I'm not concerned about it. It'll be what it'll be...

I have enjoyed every single race I have been in, even the two or three where I have been punted off.
Running a agile car instead of a power car is my fix at RBR

Any wild guesses as to why I named this video as it is? 🤣⚰️



Slightly disappointed as looked quite promising - P11 start and was P6 after 2 laps of close and clean racing between 4 of us and it ended very differently to what I hoped for...

I then hopped into main and set a qualy time 0.3 seconds faster just to start in P11 once again 🤣

Managed to finish P9 with a clean race though there was an incident I was involved in, which is also below. I think we were 3 or 4 wide heading into T1 on lap 2 and I was on the inside.

Slowed as much as possible without losing places, had steering turned to the max and was controlling throttle but driver on my rear left literally just grazed my bumper slightly and I see 3 cars spinning in my rear view mirror a second later...

Nobody blamed me after the race but other than give up 3 places when I'm on the inside, don't think I could have done more 🤔

Enjoying Race B this week. The Vantage feels nimble an stable enough to throw into most corners. Still in the low 127's but its enough to keep me in or around the top 5. Had some really close races there!

Actually glad to see the Ferrari 458s doing well, they where a rare sight back in the day.

Me to. I actually switched to the 458 and have been liking it. Have not tried the Vantage yet. I tried the F-Type and it was not for me and I switched to the 458 quickly after seeing how many were using it. I've see the Vantage win some races though...

I thought you drove that really well actually, kudos. We'd have to see from a POV behind you as to what caused the chaos but from your angle it was clean and likely caused by the drivers alongside not willing to give up the space.
 
This week's Daily Race C at Red Bull Ring is quite a blast. Gr.3 cars come alive with racing softs and mediums. The racing feels quite intense, with relentless chases and pitting at different laps, only to meet the same folks again at pit exit.

After Bathurst last week, I was a bit concerned that I would miss the intensity, but the RBR held up amazingly when it came to intensity. It is not as tiring as Bathurst to race on, however.

I wish there were more players so that I would not get paired with some specific A/A folks. Unfortunately, now that my DR-B bar is 2/3rds filled, there is no avoiding those specific A/A folks in my races.

I noticed one interesting thing. A driver accidentally rammed another off track, and waited for them to rejoin the track. That caused a brief yellow flag, which went away. Then I passed the driver who was waiting and got a yellow flag penalty. I never imagined that this gentlemanly act could potentially hand other folks a yellow flag penalty!

As cute as it is for the streamers in the real world you don't stop unless you crash or there is a red flag EVER.

The reason is that you drive on the road and on the track to EXPECTATIONS which means people should be moving forwards. I know on LFM you have to park it but in a game with ghosting and less fidelity apologise later or wit at the line don't become an obstacle when the crash is distracting enough.

There is a reason racing motorbikes don't have mirrors...

If they feel that bad about it auto drive and say sorry but for godsake keep going round the track in the right direction!

For myself, while I fully get the attraction of starting on meds, pitting early for softs and having the idealised 'clean track' to put fast laps down and the added bonus it brings of passing people in the pits I find late on the race gets too stretched and it becomes more difficult to attack others when the tire calls for being able to quickly pass cars to advance.

Conversely, if I start on softs I can use the grip and pace advantage to jump up the order quickly while the grid stays tight together then find it easier to defend later on meds as there's typically no traffic around so it's just sticking the rear in the face of the guy behind (ooh-er) for whatever laps remain which while not always 100% successful is easier than trying to hold a place early with other cars around.

Fully accepting that these are the ideal ways this plays out and there's a whole race going on where you may get caught in traffic late in the race negating the med-soft switch or go off early and negate the soft-med choice as well.

All things being equal and playing out as you hope, what is your favourite choice to go with?

I usually like starting on the worse tire and switching as soon as possible to the better. I like the clean track, no stress laps. I've been known to start on the pole with this strategy, just for fun.

Its going to be rough week for DR I think. I avoided last weeks race B because I am a liability around nurburgers gp and it would have been futile.

I love Road Atlanta normally but to have any success over 5 laps its either luck to avoid chaos or be a professional asshat and get away with it.

My DR dropped below B 50% for the first time in, well, hang on, let me check... since Jan 10. This race can be brutal. Especially if you start near or at the front, and you make the tiniest of mistakes, which acts like chum in the water for sharks.

The chart sure looks volatile, though!

Did my first race B. No idea what my QT would yield but it was 14th on the grid. I need a faster car than the Lancer.. In the end not too bad considering my car was slow. It handled well, managed to survive some scuffles in front of me and came in 10th with a CRB. Who say you can't get a CRB in race B!

See above. I'm guessing you'd be at the back of the pack. Not that I'd stoop so low as to tease you about it, since normally you kick my butt in qualifying... 😂

Ok, I don't feel so bad about my DR B performance anymore as I know you're a lot quicker than me. As for the Lancer... Damn you I can't even blame my tools for my lack of speed now. 🤦‍♂️

One thing with being slow and towards the back is that there are less people to crash into. So my three races last night giving me CRB at Road Atlanta along with one the night before allowed my SR to recover from B back to S. That's good.

Yes, Road Atlanta can be a carnage. Trying to survive it can be fun too.



Surviving has been my only goal for the last month since I promoted to DR B. I just can't go above P9, and other players quitting or crashing prevent me from demoting back to C. Only exception being the Copen race, where I'm getting top5s easily.

"CRB". I used to get those fairly frequently. Now I'm beginning to suspect they no longer exist, in spite of what you say (see my above comment about being delusional). :rolleyes:
 
Two races at the Red Bull Ring for me tonight. I didn't even bother to try and set a new time and just did some practice laps.

Race 1 has me on pole! But I forget to brake and mess up turn 1. I fall back and get another off track penalty trying to navigate the final turns after being slow from the penalty. I get my bearings and turn laps and finish P3 after one of the leaders fails to pit. I went with a 4M/9S tire strategy and that worked well for me. I doubt I would have made 10 laps on the soft tire with the way I drive.

Race 2 has me P5 to start and it's basically the same race. But with some drama in the final corners as P6 was closing fast and I was trying to defend and the back end kicked out. In my attempt to correct the car ran into said P6 as they made a pass. I finish P6 as P7 took advantage. I get called a "dirty loser" post race. I didn't do it on purpose, so whatever. I even said that post race chat but never got a response.

Still, a fun night of racing and I can't wait to get back at it tomorrow.
 
Has your DR been really sensitive lately? I've been at an S rating forever barring a few races like fuiji.

I had one guy brake early (purposely in my opinion) and I receive a 3 sec penalty. Immediately get knocked down to A. I run a few clean races and get it back to S.

Next race I didn't hit anyone, didn't receive any penalties, and it goes from S to B.

Other races when I get beat and banged on I end up with a clean race bonus.

Anyway I'm enjoying B. It's fast paced carnage but everyone knows what they are getting into.

I disagree with you there. Saying sorry in the chat after ruining someones race and continuing like nothing happened is ****** behaviour.
Plainly said, you can stick your sorry in the butt in this case...
Doing it while Autodriving is even worse because Autodrive cares **** about your suroundings and causes way more chaos then waiting up somewhere out of harms way.
If some brain is used to slow down mindful it is no rocket science to not get in the way of other drivers.

I think that has been one of the cleanest takes on turns 3 and 4 I've ever seen! Not even Hamilton managed that good of a re-overtake - just ask Albon :D

I love RBR as a TT track and I’m quick there. But the racing is infuriating because there are very few legitimate overtaking zones and T3 actively encourages “divebombing”.

I’d go so far as to say there is no other circuit in the game that incentivizes aggressive but slow driving as strongly as RBR.
 
Been running a lot of RBR this week, found the best way is to run it as a TT pitting as early for softs and then running in clean air, letting players overtake in the early laps. Although in some B/S lobbies I've found players not returning the favour and actively defending despite the huge pace differential
