Finally, a race win, it's been a LONG time since my last win.
Spa is one of those tracks that just clicks with me. It was good that I had the pole because when I looked at the replay, there were lots of bad things happening behind me, which explained the big gap between me and 2nd place.

There is definitely something changed in the last update for braking, last corner at DTS is one which I can’t figure out whether it’s 2nd or 3rd gear, same as the first turn, so I’m usually heading down to 2nd and short shifting on exit, but really 2nd seems too low and third I keep over doing, also defo the braking areas are different, I’m braking before the red braking area - something I never did before 🤷‍♂️

Trying to find the best compromise for Spa. I've tried 3 cars for now: Supra, M6 and Mc Laren. Didn't really "push" (lapping with all 3 at '18 dead), just looking at the differences (top speed, cornering speed, accelleration and braking capability). Still need to try today the GTR and the RCF. Despite some laziness from the Mc Laren at Bus stop, it appears the most balanced among the three. Looks like the better option also in terms of tire management.
@NevilleNobody there's basically 5 corners where you "do the time": La Source (consequently Eau rouge-Radillon), Malmedy (just a lil lift on entry or even flat if possible), the fast left after Bruxelles hairpin (flat out after braking), Pouhon (tighter as possible till mid corner) and 2nd Stavelot (flat out is vital; 4 tenths there to lose or gain). For Le Fagnes do not brake in the middle (before turning left), just a lil lift, then flat out. Since I suck at Bus stop, I've no clue on how to be fast there.

So you went from controller to wheel recently and Spa is giving you trouble?

I find it is very specific corners, the left/right of Fagnes I was an animal on controller, really ripped through there and hugged kerbs but now I am tripping allover myself. La SOurce is another, just not timing the release point and turn point right which affects exit. But if I can do an 18.5m it's 2.5% from the fastest time so that's fine I reakon, could for high B and low A rooms.
I have been on a wheel for years, it's something that I have noticed for a while, I guess since the last gr3 change. Saying that I did try some QT at Dragon Trail last night and it was just horrible, I couldn't get the car to do what I wanted it to do. I am beginning to question is it my wheel software as I know I am not as bad as my times are showing. I might plug in to the PC later and check all my settings again to see is something amiss

I had to practically unlearn everything in terms of what I thought made sense for wheel settings! Only after doing so did I get anywhere and this became a success only since last night!

Funny you say this, I am going to try and tighten the steering lock on my wheel tonight. I feel like I have to turn the wheel way, way too much, I watch replays and I often turn in too late, it feels unnatural how early I need to turn in to make an apex. I also have trouble in tight corners, I am coming to a near stop as the car is not turning enough. Through La Source I notice the little red dot on my screen is barely past half way to the right. Worth a try anyways.

I was thinking about it a bit more, my problem started when I moved from the T248 to the T300. On the T248 the wheel rotation settings were easy to do and stayed fixed. I have just discovered after 6 months that this is not the case with the T300. It all makes sense now 🤣🙈🙈🙈 Stupidly, you cannot save particular rotation settings on PS5 with the T300 like I can on PC. Has to be changed every single time and also if you pit, what a stupid idea 🙈. I was thinking about ordering the T598 anyway so I might do that altogether. No wonder I have been struggling so badly 🙈

Edit: This is only what I have gleaned from digging on Google, will confirm it later on when I get home

Are you physically turning the wheel fast enough as well? That was something that took me a while to adapt to, I was quite slow and lazy rather than fast and direct
It's definitely a game issue as I have no issues with it on iRacing or ACC for that matter. Out of 15 laps last night at DT I think I got through the chicane of death once unscathed, the steering inputs were just ridiculously slow 🤣

Short answer is I do not think I am, I often run wide through Blanchimont when it should be an easy flat corner as I am bot turning the wheel enough. In saying that, even with my arms crossed over the red dot is barely half way at say the last chicane, it makes a quick right/left like that very difficult as I have to turn the wheel so far it takes to long to recentre so I can go the other way.

Gonna try it anyways, can always go back.

@Tazzy-91, if you can swing for a Fanatec instead of the 598 i'd consider it. I got the DD on sale but went with the original 30 inch CSL wheel and it is an amazing wheel that is easily found dirt cheap on the used market.

That’s strange, I’m just find that I need to brake much earlier - steering the GTR on the CoD needs to be started earlier, like prior to the pole on the right and I can nearly always do it semi flat out

I agree.
I always loved the 650S but I never found pace with it. With the last BOP update (at least at SPA) seems like a very good option.

The gap between hards and softs is huge here and is giving me some headaches with people notoriously slower than me who starts from the back with a poor Qualy time and the sub-optimal choice of starting on softs (I start always on Hards).
When I notice a faster car on the mirror who is obviously on softs I dont overdefend and let them pass but the problem is they are not fast enough to build a gap ahead and they start to take ankward defensive lines slowing the both of us.

In almost all the races I did so far I encountered one or two of these people and after the second stint I lost so much time from the pack ahead 🤷‍♂️

Last night I happened to encounter @Voodoovaj in one of this lobbies and seeing how big his AMG was getting in my mirror arriving at Blanchimont I took the oustside line to leave him pass assuming he was on softs but no... the man was on hards and clean passed me as the wind.
Nice pace mate!

SHort answer is i'd try and avoid it, there's compromises with the old CSL adaptation. Price is a concern, I get it 100pc, but i'd look to used pedals, used wheel (the CSL wheel can be often found new but used as folks immediately upgrade) but save for a new base as that is where the grief will be most likely and forms the basis of all your accessories.

Spa is not my race especially a longer one, but I’m very very sure it’s popular and I’m the outlier on it. It’s me not you etc

Dragon trail is a little bit odd, the QT car is almost weightless but the race car is a LOT heavier/less responsive magnitudes of lap times slower. Weird, will adjust and race.

@NevilleNobody i have been thinking about your times and driving style all day, I think you would really advance on doing a few CE (Circuit Experiences) on the wheel again, will help you dial in, it’s something I do especially if it’s a corner or sector I need to work on (suck at)

Move the wheel directionally faster than you think you should. Also remember it’s the foot work where the magic happens not on how well you go left and right :)

I know we are a bit off topic buti have just come across this
Seems cheap enough and as far as I can make out it is the PS compatible version. Worth a go?
I promise I will get back on topic later

Csl will be the pc version, gtddpro will be the ps version

I manage, for the 1st time in probably 4 months, to be ahead of the incredibly fast @Darken Azriel in the leaderboards and of course, who has to show up? Mr FancyPants "I'm-So-Fast" @Nebuc72 to poop on my parade and set a 1:45:3 to crush my soul..... ⚰️ 😭 😋😉

Those losers have so much time on their hands. I bet they are streamers..

—-/

Going to the leaderboard when I got home from work, obviously @Nebuc72 does his thing sure….dick ( :) )

Then that amateur techno who gives love like a weirdo like has a moment, get back in your box, I have no idea who you are.

Draken and Nebu basically put us amateurs back in our box. Excellent work gents.

I do feel I am holding my own more and more. It’s hilarious I am 11th on my leaderboard and 498th 🤣

I like it when you two have your little lap time squabbles, it lets me do my monthly 'hop on to make sure I'm not washed' lap.
You put out some genuinely good times to beat, there's been great improvements in both of your paces.

I think I've found my car for Spa. After having tried the GTR, which has a sleepy front end, I went for the RCF. In the 1st completed lap I managed a '17.7. I ended up with a '17.4, targeting the '17.0 (already ideal). The car is the opposite of the GTR in terms of front end; it's a razor blade. It also has, for my taste, the best gears spacing for the track; sort of old Supra before the patch. No wonder it's meta. Whilst with the other cars I was aiming the '17.5 as a sweaty "I need to work my a.." to achieve, on the RC F I'm now confident about getting to the high '16 and more. Tomorrow I'm off work, so I'll get to learn the car a bit more.

I think it's because in QT there's no tire wear and no fuel. In the race, tire wear is 1x and, I'm not sure, but I think the fuel is also 1X.

Not really a streamer but I do try and at least beat both of your times. I think I still have some work to do this week.

Anyone here not use the auto setting for steering lock or know what the auto defaults to? I use the csl p1 v2 wheel. Cannot believe what an absolute ordeal it is to change steering is, seriously what a joke.

Had more races with @Childe Roland

There are so many fast cars and close racing. It's good but tight. Thankfully spa has a few lines. I was starting too far back and I had too much work to do so I put some more time into my qualifier.

2:17.278 - Again, BB turn all the way to the rear. I like it because I can use the throttle to tighten up the turn. This lap still has some significant mistakes. I probably lost 2/10ths.

Changed lock to 720 degrees and I was losing a FULL SECOND AND A HALF between la source and the final chicane. Like what on earth was that. Racing guys I was gaining 1.5 seconds on in sector 2 then losing it all at those two corners.

Changed it back to auto, so I dunno, something is off. Even once I put it back to auto I am waiting FOREVER to get on the gas in the last chicane. I clip thr apex on the right, but simply cannot rotate the car left at all, I am coming to near a dead stop, it is super frustrating. I cannot be this slow at Spa, I know the track, I was fighting in the top split with a pad but simply cannot navigate tight turns with a wheel. I'm doing something fundamentally wrong as I complained about the same thing at RBR turn 3.

Super frustrating night, not once in 3 races was I ever passed without being hit, EVERY DAMN TIME. the racing is a complete joke, worst I have ever seen, just shove it up the inside every damn corner and use the carb in front to make the corner. Our friends from a warm climate are relentless, super, super dirty, just absolutely relentless, every turn it's a barge without fail.

Yap, at Dragon Trail i need the first lap to adjust from the G70, which i drove in qualifying to the freightliner they handed me at the grid. I think, that's why lap one has a lot of overshooting and off track adventurers.
I didn't even make it to Spa, because i have fun and fair races in Kroatias dragon trail. My quali is 1:48.134 (DR c/s) driven on Monday and like the last two weeks, i am not able, to improve in 4 consecutive days. I learned to unlearn...... I often follow a ghost of the tops, very close, like 0.5 behind, till it goes uphill (after Larini and the following lefthander) from the top till finish line i somehow lose 4 seconds.
To me, the Genesis is more fun to drive than the gtr and it is a bit faster right at the start. The gap between Quali car and race car isn't that big... But beware of some curbs, it can get bouncy. Thanks and have a great day.

Have you done the CE sector by sector with the wheel?
Sorry that was quite the rant last night. No I have not so i'll jump on today at lunch and give it a whirl. In races I am considerably faster than most B drivers in Sector 2 but getting absolutely murdered at La Source and the final chicane. So from Malmedy through to Blanchimont I am gaining about 1 second on the same tyre as Mid to upper mid B drivers then from the final chicane to the end of Kemmel I am losing that second (obviously your speed on Kemmel is affected by the poor exit at La SOurce). It was the same at RBR a month or so ago, I was super competitive but turn 3 (up hill right hander) was being butchered by guys I was clearly otherwise faster than. Something is fundamentally off.

I set the lock to something crazy like 280, felt fantastic through the chicane but rest of the lap it was unusable lol. I am not sold that anything other than AUTO works tbh and I am wondering if my larger than normal wheel is contributing to the problem. To be a little clearer, to take the two tight corners I have to apply so much lock, as in my hands are crossed over, that I cannot get on the gas as I need to wait for the wheel to re-centre. This is also why I am getting punted as guys behind me don't expect me to be so damn slow.
