Some broader mid week thoughts. At Bathurst I am losing time at the cutting (tight uphill left), I need to carry more speed mid corner and on entry but cannot seem to hang with A drivers there and with these anemic group 4 cars means you lose time all the way to Mcphillamy (the final fast left). I am also being burnt on exit at Forrest's elbow, are you guys using 2nd or 3rd there? I use 2nd to tuck in the nose but exiting is awkward as I am out of revs quickly.

So my 2.15.9 is 2% of the top time, this is in line with D-Pad pace at bathurst. What is interesting is that before my 18 month break I would race very competitively with DRA drivers at 2%, even give some A+ a scare. Now, I am basically bottom 3 to 5 in A rooms and more of a B driver. I am no slower than 2 years ago but it appears the standard has risen and risen very sharply.

You must be number 1 in the world with that qualifying time 🤪

😁
Sorry Tv Show GIF by Laff

Uh...yeah...what a typo that is lol. It's supposed to be 2:16.9XX. I'm not going to edit my original post because it's funny.

I think this is the crux of it, I have heavily invested time in the game since launch with the aim of improving and I went from a very mediocre driver to a faster one but that has taken nearly 3 years with 1000s of hours to break my natural level. I still have a long way to go but feel more comfortable being in and around the faster guys currently.

There has also been the physics changes for handling and braking changes coupled with the better balancing and slowing of the cars over all that make them easier to drive in most cases which has again helped bring everyones speeds closer.

I think there is a lot to be said for just generally easier to drive and more and more people seeing people like Tidg and Rory and watching those lap guides, doing TTs etc that help increase the overall "base level pace"

Just my 2p on it.

EDIT:

OMG there are 10k people watching Rory right now 🔥

I have to say mate, I normally know by now if my time is going to be good enough to compete, from the friend leaderboard or good enough and that I know I can improve on it, I’m getting to that point this week that my motivation to race and qualify is slowly draining.

I have high hopes when I see the races each Monday and really by now I’ve nailed 70% of my best time.

Just have to let them go and see what next week brings I guess 😁

I get that feeling, and then on Tuesday I see my boards and my heart sinks 🤣

And then I have to really grind times out and that’s not where you really start learning.

Hollo and tidge rock up first thing do like 5 laps of each and are already eons ahead!

Thankfully I don’t make their splits 🤣

You were killing it in Tokyo last week btw absolute 🔥 well done my friend 🍻

Thanks mate, but I tried quite a bit of the Delta quali and it was just not clicking AND I still think Bathurst should be gr3, I’ve had seriously stayed in DF reverse if it was race B,

I guess you can’t be super fast on every track every week, I wonder if those top leaderboard guys have the same or if they just know how to throw them cars around the track, that Holl01 is certainly somehow throwing it around, superb to watch

Edit. Also thanks for inspiring me to be better mate,

I wanted to congratulate Brockie on his achievements over the past few weeks 👍. A few weeks ago, I could still keep up with your times, but now you're getting faster and faster on my friends list. I think I need to unfriend you to avoid further frustration 😉. Joking aside, you're doing really well, and at some point I'll have to figure out what gave you that boost. Keep it up. cheers
I spoke to him privately, and even though I will be breaking the terms of our NDA, I can disclose that @brockie credits his improved performances (lately) to just one thing.. Not commitment, not studying others - it's Ozempic 😅 Loses weight and seconds from his lap times simultaneously, apparently... 🫣😜

Absolutely bro, who knew how much those bingo wings were slowing me down!!

Delete our DMs now you heathen lover!

*bet you not following technos ghost on a Monday (buffs nails and says yaaaaas boi)

Race A is curious as with DR it’s attracting some higher ranked players, this means there are a lot of points to be had just staying in the game.

That said a lot of people didn’t get the memo on how to drive the car fast (or brake downhill for T1)

It’s a really good race to practice dealing with clumsy rather than malicious. The A+ guys are getting it wrong as well. Watch a lap guide and focus on your lines and just giving exit space and it’s a DR money maker, first lap is a free for all the rest just focus on pace ;)

I am pressed for time so normally Monday I spent half an hr or so trying cars I like then the OP car and set a reasonable time. Then I fire up the races and improve my QT between them.

TBH our pace is reasonably close and we will have a lot more fun as a high B than an A driver, last night in A rooms the first 9 guys were in the 14's and some low 14's... like seriously?

That’s how I look at it. You have two choices. Sand bag and love dominating races, or go through the barrier and be competitive.

None of those or wrong and neither is being fast and doing bad (cough me cough me)

But there may come a time where the challenge is more rewarding and nailing that win against real peers or those above.

One tip I would give all of those moving up a ranking is to learn some decision making and be comfortable not winning the race, being able to get better control around faster drivers is what I learn the most from.

DR comes and goes and not a lot of us who post regularly are doing A+ Race pace and that’s fine. But we can all be better decision makers

I'm in agreeance with a few of the preceding post regarding the racing (slamming / shoving / dive bombing) at Bathurst. It's very bad.

There are a number of places to attempt at pass at Mount Panorama, but the fast downhill esses toward, and at, The Dipper are not. It is ALWAYS going to end in disaster when they attempt to pass there. Why can't people be "real" and follow through that section?

And what's with all the WALL RIDING?... especially at Forest's Elbow (final left before Conrod Straight).

I love the realism of SIM Racing, ...but am I an idiot to actually think, and drive, like I'm racing a real car in these online races?

Bad braking typically.

In fairly fast lobbies that’s not a thing.

I’ll do some QT tomorrow and races tomorrow and see if it’s a thing but I doubt it is.

Will see in the morning. I don’t particularly like the race compared to the other races but I’ll give it a shot

This week Race A is a blast! It's a welcome change from the city street of last week or the unstable Corvette of the week before. Monday morning was hell. Tuesday was already better. I'll camp there for the week. Still racing from the back, maybe I will qualify later this week. I'm not super fast, some race my best lap is in the 27 but most of the time I'm low 28.

More Bathurst for me this evening. I set a new quick time of 2:16.6XX (I got it right this time!) which is fine with me.

Race 1 has me in P7 to start. I get dumped Dale Earnhardt Sr. style entering Skyline and that sends me down to P12. Yay... A Bugatti tries to run me off track and fails the next lap. I eventually get into a battle for P9 and get a wall hitting penalty! I catch back up on the final lap and make a last turn pass as they run wide on the final turn and I sneak on by. Huge thanks to the dummy who dumped me.

My second race has me in P5 this time. No full contact racing this time. Some nice racing and clean battles. I got a off track penalty somewhere, but I still managed to finish P4. No complaints about this one.

My final and I'm P6 on the grid. A very boring race in a good way. I get to P5 after someone has issues going down the mountain. P4 has a problem in The Cutting and I take over that spot. I successfully defend that spot and finish there.

Guess what. The ghost that I choose to follow this week has improved his QT by 1.5 tenths. So did I 😉 ('14.670), basically confirming my ideal of Tuesday. I'm noticing that I'm regularly faster than him from Griffin's to McPhillamy park. In Gr.3 I also kinda had the upper hand in that section compared to other contenders. I had few attempts where I was "inside him" (I know it sounds awful 🤣) for all the uphill section. If only I could be able to not lose that geological era dowhill, I'll be in the low '14s. Now it's just a matter of getting consistently around the mid '14 to race.

I improved the race A QT and did 2 races. First race I started P2. On lap 2, the leader decided to go play in the gravel and after that it was an easy run to win.

Second lap was a lonely run from pole to win. That one wasn’t challenging, and not point enriching, when I was the sole DR A and the rest of the field was B or even C.

Which leads me to the disappointment that is race A. It’s a blast and I like it, but as the week goes on, the competitive players leave it after Monday and Tuesday sessions and the rest of the week becomes a dessert for racing in the higher lobbies. Perhaps that is just the US?

I did put a QT time on my other accounts driving in flat screen. I’m slower than VR but it was interesting seeing the real time split and testing out what lines and gears are faster/slower. With that said, perhaps I’ll try some racing in the rowdy euro lobbies. It’s been a while since I hung out there.

Won my first race in about 6 weeks 😮 And probably should have had another, but thought lap 5 was lap 6 🤣

Race A is fun with the right people - but not so much fun with the wrong ones 🙄 There was quite a large spread of racers this morning, everything from A+/S to C/S and some B/Bs, which made for some 'interesting' overtakes - may post a replay later...

I'm slowly getting better at B, but have no qualifying speed at all on C - starting last in most races lol.

That pretty much sums it up I think!

How was RBR?

Very good!! But too hot for a chap from an island in the North Sea - it was 30-35c the whole week🥵
Our view.. pity the race was pretty dull though 😕

Cracking seats!

Typical Redbull ring race sadly :(

This weeks A is so awesome but one clumsy mistake from anyone and it’s annoying as hell but what I’ve found is that recovering isn’t as bad as some combos

Yeah I've been shunted to dead last on lap 1 several times, but still managed to get back to P4 to P6 - the dirty ones get so carried away with being dirty that it's easier to catch up.

That Lancia feels great - a bit of power and some decent grip makes for better race A's in my opinion.

Nearly bought a usd HF Integrale in the mid 1990's - but the owner blew the engine up a week before we were going to do the deal 😮 lucky escape for me there🤣

First to complain about crappy driving so will say the racing last night was outstanding at Bathurst. Mixed A and B rooms with half the grid the same blokes race to race and it was super, super tight stuff. Very minimal contact and even then it was accidental.

I feel in a really good rhythm and have very solid pace but still prone to a mistake or two per race which can be costly. I'll leave this video here, spewing I forgot to save the replay, very much a purists race but it shows what pressure from behind can do to a driver as all three of us make errors from the lead. Felt my last 2 laps was some of my best driving ever, nailed apexes and was super aggressive on exits to get a run on guys onto both long straights.

Good show.

You're getting good enough to drop the track aids now, right? It improves the immersion.
