Agreed.

On paper you’d think “yeay” but the reality is very different. It seems to be something about tracks where the Armco/walls are really close that it’s overly sensitive on contact.

I said on Monday morning it was going to be a tough one to race on and pass and that QT is gonna be super important this week.

There is just something not right at all with Gr4 and I can’t put my finger on it. As I’m sure this would been much more fun in a fast road car (M4/supra/Alfa saloon thing etc) on SH tires.

As much as I love A this week, turning DR off again makes its purpose less of a draw for me as I like everyone to have some skin in the game. If it’s aimed at beginners then they need to focus on better match making not brute force the competitive (DR side) out of it.

And well C is a great race but it’s been done a gazillion times now.
May i assist your finger to the reason what's wrong with Gr 4? 🤭
It feels absolutely slow and still some corners are hard to take.
I don't expect understeer, when it feels like i am just in a parking maneuver

Personally I find the cars generally have these problems:

  • they are to slow
  • the tires are too grippy for them
  • the drive trains aren’t balanced enough

So how does that all come together?

The gap between Gr3 and 4 is weird, they basically have over time dumbed down both groups.

This does promote closer racing but it’s slightly artificial as it’s not ability lead (as show by how tight all the times are these days)

Gr4 cars are almost impossible to crash when running to the limit and when accidents happen it’s typically understeer induced or poor braking.

There is like 30 cars in Gr4 and only 3-4 are remotely viable each week with the odd outlier (but I suspect that’s more flexing at the top than meta for most normal people)

So overall the races are more like Clio or Mini Cup races rather than edge of your seat running up to the limit or just beyond. This isn’t a problem and I wish that’s what daily A was (Hot hatch classes but competitive and ranked, with a more 4th race that was “experimental” like the corvette or samba etc)

So the problem really is we have such closely matched pace and car(s) that for the higher tier lobbies means driving around mostly single file. In the lower lobbies it means frustration and “ambition out weighs talent moves” because nobody likes to finish 8-10-15 etc

There is almost an argument to be made to split Gr4 in to drive train classes such as it is. Some track selections definitely don’t help either.

So this is my short thoughts on Gr4 :)
 
At the moment at Sardegna, apart from the race I won, the 3 others were against A or A+ so maybe there isn’t that many folk racing it? Those guys I could keep up with but not gain on.

I’m just enjoying being at the thick end, took a good chunk out of my time and there’s a few tenths left I’m sure.

I’ll let the week play out and if when it becomes a procession I’ll finish the week out in A 😁

I just improved in the Atenza 🤣 optimum was .194 😲
 
Nice mate, maybe chucking a car change in the mix might be an idea too

It was like we were team mates both with a eBay livered mazda3 😆 on the board

I think this is my absolute favourite track in the game, with the Tokyo ones 😁 but hearing you on the car classes and choice though
Don’t worry I’m still EBay liveried we are just running both cars from the factory now :)

I find the atenza a more normal car to drive as it doesn’t suffer from the whole torque LSD thing so you don’t have to short shift to manage it etc.

The track isn’t my fav personally but it’s not bad, I think it runs better in reverse for slower cars. I now see a mustang is up there….errr that is beyond my talent levels I feel!

Edit: @NAXEHT I managed 3 mins of that vid……it’s basically why we can’t have nice things 😢

Jesus, there are so many completely incapable of driving to drive the GR Yaris, it’s insane. The loss of control and crashes in that downhill "T2" section in particular. And it’s not even a quick car...
To be fair, I'm very capable of driving the car.

Until I'm not.

One of my favourite road car circuits, too.

This is a really nice lap, interesting to see you do what i do re. taking the tighter turns in 2nd rather than using 1st then short shifting up. You pretty much nailed that lap, not sure where else u find time tbh.

I think where I’m losing time would be the turn 4 right hander which I can’t seem to do in 3rd and the left hander up the top of the hill (3rd before last) which I can’t do in 5th, which is what I’m seeing most fast guys do,

I watched closely @TechnoIsLove lap and I believe I brake too late instead of braking earlier and accelerating out of the corner rather than past it, so that’s what I’m working on at the moment.

The atenza it’s almost at the limiter in 4th so a quick dab and chuck it in is faster than the torque monster for me.

I just did a race with the atenza and it’s definitely a viable if not the better race car for drivability it’s just a little different on the brakes.

I couldn’t resist to try it, turned it on with 45 secs left and went straight into a race, started on pole by a few hundreds by virtue of my mazda3 QT and due to some squabbling behind managed to pull out a 2.8 sec lead,

Only for p2 to take 2.5 sec out of me in the last two laps, hell that was a nervy finish,

I reckon more time needed on that, but worth scratching the itch! 😁

I prefer +3 or -3 as well the +\- 5 thing feels odd for me
I deleted it because I noticed he was in the Atenza, not the Mazda 3. So maybe it's better +5 for that car on that track.
Last week I realized on sunday evening (!!) that the Lambo was faster with +5 instead of +3 on Watkins.

But yeah most of the time +3/-3 is the maximum for me. 5 very very rarely.
