Hey m8s!
Got some sessions on lunch and after work ..
tested many cars on B like supra and l8...but the amg 20 got my best. Today finally at .52.9xx and opt time 52.4 ...

I have problems on connecting dots...

Looking for 51 upper or 52 down.

Tried some laps.on C before wife calls me..and got 27.6 with opt time 27.4

Feeling i can get the 26s

Having fun with Megane ..

Wow, a lot of conversation and activity going around. Sorry, I forgot that they discontinued the rain at HSR. I'm sure everyone was thrilled to hear about that. It's much easier doing races on dry roads. Good luck to all of you folks.
 
If you guys feel overwhelmed during a race in C, always take a break in between for like 2-3 hours so it can refresh your mind. And you can regain your focus back. Remember this is just a game, it's not like NASCAR where all the drivers take everything seriously. If people complain about not winning or getting low QT times, it's just going to bring more negative energy into their reality and situation.

So here's my new QT lap, a 53 flat which is a half second faster than what I did on Monday. So before you pick it to pieces, here are my thoughts.

I get excited to be at 41.5 in sector 1, i slightly miss the apex at t2 but tbh 41.5 is as fast as i can go and most hot laps i am 42 flat. It sorta distracts me and i lose a couple tenths braking too harshly onto the back straight.

From there the really tight left is oooookaaaaay but i can do better by being more subtle with the gas. I again get excited because i know on my ghost lap i lifted quite a bit through the last turns so I was likely to gain 2 tenths and I again brake too harshly into the tunnel this time and drop a tenth or so. I then do as well as ive ever done through the final sequence.

So if I'd nailed everything its a 52.7, maybe 52.6, thatd be the limit of my skill set.

Yes i am using TC2, i have had many, many laps with TC1 (which RARELY engages) and i am on track for a high 52 but i make mistakes so for the last session tonight i was tired and went to tc2 and found a decent lap.

I really really really don’t understand how that isn’t a faster lap time mate!

Yes there was one or 2 places you could have been a little tighter or on it a little bit more swiftly but the whole flow was very good.

Was a nicely driven smooth lap.

Thoughts:

- turn of CSA for QT, in QT it doesn’t matter if you slip or bin it it wasn’t very active in that lap anyways

- you are fast enough to brake that fraction later and coast less but with higher speed just a mile or 2 an hour

- try a few laps where you arent pushing but practicing the lines to build that mental flow up so they feel less of a focus to hit. Set the ghost behind you by .1/.2 and have it rest so you can follow it more closely

- have a think about why TC2 works better than TC1 for you, when the higher one does trigger it means you are pushing that much further beyond the grip so you are getting stability but it’s masking another trait which is possibly too much angle or throttle control. Less is more here

- it’s really really hard for everyone me included but don’t try to hard and don’t tense up. I’m lucky in VR is that I only see sector splits but not the real time delta, this removes some of the tension that builds through a good lap.

That’s all I have it was a solid lap mate.

That’s great going mate, I saw that earlier and was like wow this is really hotting up, I just nailed a 1.53.137 so I’m right behind you, and I dropped about 3 tenths in the last sector so the 52s are looking real so I’m sticking with this one 😁

@Gurzu funnily enough I tried a top 10 time and it made me faster somehow 🤣

Usually by this time of week I’ve plateaued but there is something still to go for, racing is getting pony though punted out twice this morning so come the weekend I may well sit it out,

It does appear that there is a noticeable drop in participation this week for whatever reasons, but this week does coincide with a lot of EU children returning to school or starting their first full week back to school. It is also the end of the traditional vacation period for a lot of people.

Appreciate this and you raise some good points.

It's not faster because the video is not really showing the three errors I touched on (entry to back straight, the tight left before the second tunnel and the entrance to the last tunnel), these cost me 4 tenths vs my optimal times, the entrance to the back straight in particular cost me a fair bit.

So that's a 52.6. The rest, as you note, is TC2 doing it's thing and it just robs you of a smidge here and there. With TC1, several times I have been on for a mid 52 but binned it on the tight left before the second tunnel, there's a little dip and she gets light and I spin pushing too hard. You hit the nail on the head re. angle. I think I am modulating throttle OK but I am not rotating the car enough and trying to get on the gas before my wheel is straight enough, it's that simple. TC2 gives me more confidence, it has to be said, so I can really push hard.

That time is well within 2% of the top time in the world so we are getting down to nuance but the difference between what I can set and what you can set is that brake and release point and when to coast on the limit that allows for enough rotation without giving up time under brakes. 'Tis a fine art.

@brockie , man we are close eh. I had one race last night in a B room and managed a podium, was then banished to a split with 8 A+ guys, like come on!

Thanks for that great lap, I learnt a lot from it and was able to improve my own to crack 1:53.919 which has made my day. 🥳
PS which car did you use as I used the R8 LMS Evo ‘19

Glad to be of assistance. Surely you can tell the car from the sound no? 'tis the unmistakable sound of a flat 6. To me the Audis feel better than the 911, safer int eh rear under brakes but the 911 tucks it's nose in better, especially the left after the 1st tunnel.

Yeah that’s all fair, you can push with just a fraction more fidelity / throttle control but I do get the point.

I also think bonnet cam at some combos doesn’t help especially where there are invisible tight apex corners

Just a general one but binning it is part of that journey and you are a long way in to it especially knowing where those bumps are and there are a few at TM in reverse!

I do reiterate I think it looked like a solid lap to me 👊

I think aside from our differences in throttle control is that VR has 2 benefits for me:

1: It makes it feel less knife edge as the sense of speed (and the way the brain sees that speed) it’s more-ish natural and things “feel” like you have more time and confidence in car position

2: combined with not feeling as if im really on the edge pushing, the sense of speed I don’t see the real time delta so mentally can just focus corner to corner sector to sector which I know from my pre VR days was something that used to affect my laps, I’d have a bad sector 1 for example and lose focus where as now I just crack on which yields for me better times over all.

It’s amazing what perspective does to perception, I mean in VR it’s still fast but the view is framed much more narrowly so like drive driving a car the way the speed feels visually is a lot different. IRL you obviously feel it.

It’s quite interesting now as bumper cam footage looks almost like wipeout and bonnet cam a sort of half way house but to the opposite extreme of bumper you are driving the car from the very front of the roof

As a side note I do think there is some changes to the input fidelity when in VR but can’t quite put my finger on exactly what they are, maybe it just is the view makes it all more natural and drivable. And I was the same sort of pace in bumper cam 🤷‍♂️

Edit: also I’d like to think I don’t drive like someone who left the iron on at home 😝 and keep things considered and calm mostly 🤣

It’s also just occurred to me that seeing the hands and wheel and correlating them to the view of the track and that my view is changing to look through some of the corners or exits would add to that effect of looking visually slower

With my hearing I couldn’t tell the difference between a V12 and a Tuck Tuck never mind a flat 6 🤭

Its the 3rd Time I back to A and 3rd time I derank to B, but every time I back to A I back stronger and someday I ll keep it....

how all happened today?

Testing my 52.9 lap (52.4 opt if not wrong) on b races..I was battling with A+ and two notables yt : kentish and couchdriver...was very fun race and interact live !

So on A/A+ lobby my time was giftting me around 8 and 10 on grid.

Did 4 races, just 1 got 7th. Other got smashed or spinned ( i always use tcs 0) and got last place or somelike near.

Then..welcome back to B.

My time 52.9 gift pole or top 3.

Im almost back to A...just need 2 good races...but...this race is spicy...riscky..agressive...
But its hard to stop..like race dopamine.

I wanna try my time on C 27.7 is a good start on B lobby? Opt giving 27.4...but I believe I can do better with some my hard training... normally I do 50/70 laps non stop.

Pick your battles, when in with sone of the fast guys like those (my lobbies tonight were Dreamcatcher and the rest of the RTR guys) is realise I’m as quick just not quite the same league yet, it may or may not come but it’s nice to be racing with them until they drive away.

What is frustrating is the try hards behind, it’s like racing etiquette has left the building but I expect rightly or wrongly better standards at that level especially as I’ve raced 90% of them before.

hahaha we living the same life. Up to A then down to B annnnnnd podiums and wins then up to A annnnnnd mid pack battle.... then down to B. Repeat.

Totally agree...It's "putting me in my place"...I want arrive there, its my target

I realised it's a journey or like my wife says..."my second job".

About the try hards...yeah got some...and..just once I was one...missed the brake and hit hard.
but..I can say fair play was in the air today...many guys that hit me gave back the positions...but disaster already done...

Man...you know what I was thinking today...
I remember when I was trying hard to stay on B and deranked to C....many times...

someday our A will become our actual B 💪🏆

I confess when derank to B I race more and relaxed...on A im kind tense cause want avoid derank again and...mistakes happen.
 
It’s really simple; telegraph your intentions early and be on you for a corner or two. Nobody in their mind should be defending 6th really hard when a solid 7th is there on a plate. Perspective is much more than what you look at.

I think limited racing time and pressure to perform really affects the race dynamic.

The difference it some combos doesn’t help nor does other racers mindsets

recently I started do be less competitive or agressive and garantee a good result...if I see i dont have a chance

Today in B race I was pole, 2nd and 3rd really faster..."do u know what, go...im happy with 3rd"...

Defend those guys could cost my race...
