It’s really simple; telegraph your intentions early and be on you for a corner or two. Nobody in their mind should be defending 6th really hard when a solid 7th is there on a plate. Perspective is much more than what you look at.

I think limited racing time and pressure to perform really affects the race dynamic.

The difference it some combos doesn’t help nor does other racers mindsets

In fast lobbies like the 10 deep A+ rooms i've been dealing with this week, my aim is to just race clean and pick up the pieces when they fall my way, I know I cannot match guys on pure pace. However, the guys behind me push and shove and dive in and it's just a mess.
 
Hey guys, I wanted to get some feedback, from practice laps to see, if there's any tips or just anything to help me get smoother with my driving. I feel I can go faster, I'm leaving a good chunk of time, on the table. I'm trying to tighten up a lot with my pace



 
My 2c fwiw and reminder I only just recently managed a 53 flat.

Your gear changes seem a millisecond late, especially into T1, try doing the final change down a smidgen earlier.

You're braking hair and I mean a hair too late for the entry to the back straight.

Try BB2 plus 2 not 3, youre nearly swapping ends in the two bogey spots for the 911.

You're leaving a lot of time on the table exiting the 1st tunnel and especially the following left hander. The 911 will tuck its nose in, youre Braking too hard, sort of..... I sort of feather the break, trail brake I guess, watch my lap above, youre leaving half a second at that corner or close to it.

Rev it out too, sometimes you shift up a bit early of when u dont need to, all the power is at the top end. Wring its neck.

Overall though, youre consistent and smooth other than locking the rears a bit so you will find time for sure.

Now, educate me please, I use csa weak which is basically off, i see you do not use tc but youre csa is losing its mind violently flashing away, this has gotta be hurting you no? What does strong csa feel like with no tc? Have you considered turning it off and using tc1?

I thought I was braking late! Thank you sooo much for the input on everything! A strong CSA, doesn't help, me or do I use it, but when people try and hit me, I don't spin off! Just use it, so they don't hook me! I learned that from a famous guy, that doesn't need to be named. Feels the same either way I drive the same!

I had it on, BB +2, me always sreaching, for car placement! Other than that , I'll work on Braking, I'm either to light on them or too hard, I'm still, finding the sweet spot!

Nice lap.

The bits I can see are:

Sector 1 and a couple of later corners you aren't using as much of the track as you could.

Also there were a few points where you short shift which I get to manage the imaginary wheel slip - we all do this.

in QT you can take a lot more risks with testing braking early or later, don't be afraid to brake longer but with less input.

One thing that might help is to watch your own replay back in chase cam, this is a good view point to understand how much of the track you are using and how tight are you actually getting to the apexes/invisible walls etc.

I can post my lap (which is not that fast now) in bumper cam view if you want but I honestly I think I am just a little tighter and my braking technique allows for a little later and deeper braking while not sacrificing as much speed.

Re: CSA the logic for in race makes sense, in QT I would turn it off and try without it as it looked in a couple of corner entries you were fighting it a litte (ie you and the CSA were catching the movement)

I would try a lap with TC1 to see if you can use more of the lower gears, my lap was with TC1 as it was one of my early ones I don't use TC very often but when I am warming up I tend to use it as my pedal control is clumsy to begin with in a session.

@newmedia_dev and @NevilleNobody said a lot..and I cant be more complete than both...but..

1. Follow the top 10 ghost.

2. Correct your lines : randomly some turns you do well and sometimes you are doing far away from the track limit(the downhill turn before the tunnel and the small tunnel for example) . Open before and close in the end.

3. Apex : The #2 are making you missing the apex/acceleration/speed, this cost between 10/20 tenths by turn...in the end of the lap the sum cost at least 500ms/1s.

4.your drive is flow and nice, just add the brake points on it looking for top 10 replays. You have to know but dont try to brake exacly on the same point. In the race or any sports you dont need to think too much about you know what you have to do..should be like walk, when we walk you dont think "foot 1...foot 2..foot 1...foot 2" ....this is a valuable lesson every martial arts sensei teach to me. "Natural flow, your body already know what to do without overthink".

I always use zero...
When leaving the turn before 100% aceleration start it on 80% / 85%...when you are fully straight add the 20% ..15%...

People already said about your gears, see on the replay how the 3rd gear is applied, some turns if I not wrong after tunnel, u use a 2nd gear on downhill, it's risky and slower than 3rd.

Use the 3rd to avoid spins instead 2nd agressive, those cars are strong enough to do the job when you car are in optimal speed

Thank guys! I will turn that off during qually! You are right, the csa, does get tight, or I tense up, either way! You're right, I'll start watching them in chse cam.


And yes please every little thing helps, I'll take a look at yours laps for sure! I do feel like tighten up on corner entry, I'll attempt to loosen up, and let it flow instead of fighting it! I'm starting to not, just mash the gas, I'm for sure going to work on all of these!


You know Glen, yeah braking for sure! I brake hard as I don't want to run wide, but feel I give up a lot o time doing it, and then mash the gas trying to make up the time, then all heck breaks loose!

Check this out guys, so very nearly a 1.52.7xx ish I would say, first corner I did better than ever before, against a top 10 drivers ghost, was half a sec up from a 1.53.2xx 🤨

Just cannot do that last corner anymore, not sure why, but I have to say this time trialing is fun! I’m getting the bug for it.

2nd day in a row my 1230 daily gets ruined by people who just wipe out the field in T1, super unlucky.

I will do this 😁

Check this out guys, so very nearly a 1.52.7xx ish I would say, first corner I did better than ever before, against a top 10 drivers ghost, was half a sec up from a 1.53.2xx 🤨

Just cannot do that last corner anymore, not sure why, but I have to say this time trialing is fun! I’m getting the bug for it.

Gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, been there so many times. That's a very strong sector 1 but you did what I did and locked the rears into the last tunnel, it's a very tricky one in the 911, yes it is MR but that engine still sits further back.

I have to say I almost gave up improving but the odd day when I have a fresh head I can almost do it, I may even try the BM to see if a different car helps.

Lots I have learnt this week on ways to improve my times, 😁

Need to try them TT this weekend and see what the racing is like.

This took way more learning to put the clips side by side!!! (it’s easy when you know how now!!!)

Here is my VR lap in Chase and Bumper cam. It’s not massively fast and I’ve seen a few areas I could really improve.

They are almost frame perfect but I did this on my phone.

Main take away is how little braking I do and it’s only really T1 where I fully brake

Thanks man, I’m still thrashing it about if the truth be told because when I look up I see @newmedia_dev with a 1.52.2, @Gurzu with a 1.52.4 and still no Barney and techno but at least it’s cool to be in the same second of those guys!

Also just threw away a win because I thought the last lap was the third lap 😭

Oh I've done that! I'm pretty much done racing this week, I think, I'm going to going to just improve my time, I actually had a fun time just lapping and understanding the flow of the track!

@newmedia_dev thank you! All of you!!!!! I see where my time is slipping away, I see you grabbed 1st to turn in going up hill before the right hand sweeper!!!!

You are welcome.

On that particular lap it was because I braked later than normal and had come off the brakes so wanted the extra engine braking to correct my line. It can be done fast in 2nd as well.

Watching it back again, in TT and the faster QT specialists they can brake a fraction earlier later than me and abuse the downshifting more, in VR I try to time my gearshifts but if you wanted to go full banzai then you could down shift quicker but it makes every thing more busy going in to and out of the corners.

Yeah the group of you downshift more early and slower than I do, I've been trying to break old habits, and I'll just have to click off laps, until I get it down!

All of you are smooth, I'm going to keep, watch these videos for help
 
Finally got a win after being beaten by second place for a couple prior, was helped a little by the people he was fighting and he chased me down from a 3sec lead to a .5 😬

But brought it home

Yeah the group of you downshift more early and slower than I do, I've been trying to break old habits, and I'll just have to click off laps, until I get it down!

In the advanced motorbike and road car driving I’ve done it’s always focused on sequencing:

1: look through the corner before you get there.

2: position, is your car, body head bike in the right road position

3: slow to stablise the vanishing point

4: get the majority of the work done in a straight line, ideally you want to be in the right gear to exit quite a bit earlier than the apex. So brake, downshift/select the exit gear

5: turn in with your vision as far ahead as possible, if the road is narrowing the bend is tightening, if it’s staying a fixed distance a head you are at a good speed, if it’s starting to open you goooooo!

It’s way more nuanced than that in the real world but track quality (no gravel, pot holes etc) stay the same and we all know the tracks and no on coming traffic etc.

Now on track we push the acceleration limits and use trail or cadence braking but the theory still applies.

It was semi leaked on a Japanese’s Twitter account, but reliability varies on these things especially as A is proported to be at Sard C (the one we raced the deltas on) and B is a nordschlife 1 lap GR3???? A little suspect tbh

Edit:

That said with finals coming up there could be some randomness thrown in the mix

Interesting, you know I’m not a race C kinda guy, also don’t like nurbs/nords so race A it will be, haven’t had a race A I like in a while so let’s see 😁

Race C if it’s true is a good dr earner even in fast lobbies with a good grinded QT and the laps will be so short it flys by, vs 3 lap nurb races where it feels like forever or the middle sized tracks like Spa or Suzuka
 
I am out for the week, done and dusted. I'd like to get a race C I am interested in for once, they seem to have been a bit dull or weird lately. Seaside Group 2 or Group 3 in mixed conditions at one of the rain tracks. Race A, we are due a one make special, one of the older race cars, there's so many we don't use. The Maserati, Alfa or Jag etc, from like the 60's or what not.
