Giving serious thought to Starlink, even though it's more expensive, there's less chance of a bloody fishing boat colliding with a satellite. But I guess there's always a very slim chance that could happen.
It really sucks man, such is being on those northern islands!

About star link, satellite broadband is great for normal stuff, web and email and Netflix but it suffers from latency and jitter these are 2 things you don’t want in any game, it doesn’t make a fun experience for anyone just by the nature of the way it works.

Oh no! Hopefully issues here will be sorted soon - preferabbly in enough time so I can get a few Big Willow races done!

Yeah it’s not great for gaming, FIFA, GT, CoD etc it’s not good for, you know those cars that jump and zip around it’s like that.

That said it’s probably a better option than a trawler every 2 weeks dragging the cable up…

Willow is fun and one of the best tracks and races as you know it’s a lot tighter this week than previous weeks but I can’t pin point why as once you have it dialled in it’s easy to go quick and safely

Yeah my son plays some sort of tactical shooter game with his mates and the ping was killing him. Had to install a mesh network (TP DECO for Idiots) and connected one of the pods to the PS5 directly with an ethernet cable and boom, all fixed, solid as a rock.

So many a times I've noticed that any user/racer either at the front of the field or in the middle if crashes out or is punted into a barrier, they just leave the race. Does this mean they're there just to win or get a good result?

If I'm in such a scenario, I continue to race even if there's a big gap ahead to the collective field as I take it as practice to hone my skills & feel with the car.

Also if exiting the game like this then doesn't this affect the DR rating?

It's actually a good winning tactic. You're right, by quitting they hammer their own rating, so they then get matched against lesser drivers for the next race where it's easier to win. If you see someone with a high win ratio below top split level, it doesn't mean they're a good driver, it means they're an inconsistent driver who's bad results mean they get to race against slower drivers than themselves.

I'm like you, it's not my style at all, I always like to do my best to salvage the best result I can get. If I'm really so far out of it I can't be bothered to continue I'll park in the pits rather than quit.

Well I just got served a bowl of hot poo after such a hectic work-week...

First I log in to find that someone who is not worth mentioning beat my Race B qualy time by almost 0.3s.... I put in a few laps but could only manage to close the gap down to 0.015s behind....

I then hop into a race and initially smile as I start on Pole 🥳 I was extremely happy by the end of Lap 1 as well as I managed to pull a lead of almost 1 sec but then, it was all just horrible...

LAG! And I mean LAAAAG! I literally had to deal with lag-jumps every 7 seconds and could not concentrate on actually driving well, just keeping it on the track... Not only did I lose my gap but on Lap 3, got shove-passed down to P2 and finished 0.4s behind him at the end 😖🤬💩

Because I kept finishing the races & many a times used to lap consistently, I'm not put up great drivers who are A at least if not A+. For myself, that's a bitter pill to swallow but I'm here to race & be clean. I don't mind coming last as long as anyone or everyone that overtakes me does so cleanly & fairly.

Honest & clean racing is like an addiction for me. So much so that earlier I was only play TTs & weekly challenge races. Now I barely touch TT as I spend my few hours of daily play just with online races.

Did a race, thought I’d cancelled the entry but walk back in to the room on poll starting the rolling start intro….i hadn’t even turned on my VR yet. Quick scramble pray it doesn’t need play area calibration and off I go, didn’t even have time to top my wine up before the race!!!

Managed to bring it home but….

But….

I genuinely think people try to race above their ability not in a malicious way but by believing they are fractionally better than they are at

1. Reading what’s happening ahead and leaving enough margin
2. Understanding what defensive driving really means and it’s not just taking the inside line
3. Believing they need “the slip stream” and to be 2 inches behind the car in front to “keep up”
4. That their anticipation and reaction times are better than they think

Not a lot of people race with any room for error, they keep the margins way to close things like distances in to complex areas, braking to late with the incorrect belief this will gain time, not patient enough so will try to pass in some of the worst places logically to actually pass without it being a mutually assured destruction..

It’s not even about sportsmanship but just lack of realising they are playing a game that presents (and can be played as an arcade game) but something a little more nuanced than it appears on the surface.

Here is 48s of people chasing positions rather than being more aware and cautious.

I should have ran this on longer as one of the drivers involved did wait for who he hit and dropped to the back with a 4s pen as well, fair play him.

Boo....

Mate you’re losing your touch?

What can’t even beat Glen? Shocker bud.

😉

Glen i don't think the last one was that guy's fault, seems the bloke in front hit the guy behind you and checked up on P4 man.

Here's my take, whilst I agree with your perspective, there is a catch. I like to pretend my races are real and take my time lining up a bloke for a pass. However, inevitably this let's the man behind me catch up and he has no such intention so will push past via any means possible and now I am screwed. Yesterday I was shuffled back 4 spots as I was behind a guy for nearly 3 laps trying to pass clean, eventually the pack caught us and barged past me.

So it does shorten your patience knowing if you don't make a pass stick you're going to get nudged out of the way rather quickly.

That’s fair, I was actually trying to show it was the 2 cars in front of him that set off the chain reaction, I might edit that clarification in, I just thought it was very good view of how the carnage unfolded and then caught up in the concertina but certainly wasn’t the cause of it.

Agreed, and I’m just a guilty as all of this and making some “cynical” probably might quite enough space moves myself. We and I mean myself do this on occasion because we are human and are fallible.

I think my main point really is that the way the game teaches overtaking and patient in non existent, for younger players they just know the AI and are learning both pace, control and race craft/maturity for us more seasoned players we should, do know better but try to over game the game/other people we all do it but most decent people have enough restraint or racing maturity to enjoy the race as it’s unfolding rather than trying to win every one that we do.

Yeah I ama bit of a racing nerd, I enjoy the fight so to speak so if it takes me 5 laps to get past a guy I find it very satisfying. The one I mentioned was a guy I raced three times in a row so we both trusted each other, he took regular lines knowing I wouldn't dive bomb but we did go 2 wide at times and going 2 wide means you lose time to the pack behind. It was brilliant for 3 laps then the pack inhaled me.

When I encounter drivers who think that every corner represents an opportunity to overtake, especially when it's a fight for scraps, I always label them "unambitious" in my replay comments.

Many times there's a race that's there for the taking, I look up after the first sector and see the leader is already 3 seconds up the road.

"Is P10 the highest you were aiming for there bud?"

Basically this, so many people focus on single positions rather than stay close to the actual prize…

The amount of times I die laughing when a person in 13th blocks and weaves and “goes defensive” carrying a penalty….i get keep the pace up but damn dude…

Wish before the race got over, there was an automated way to judge incidents if they were on purpose or accidental or racing kind. Something like how the F1 stewards do during a race.

Yesterday I was clean & caught up to a driver in 4th place in Race B. When I was about .5 second behind him, all of a sudden he braketested me i.e. stopped on racing line & I hit into the rear of his car. I was about 1.5 seconds ahead of 6th & 7th placed cars. This happened on lap 5 which means I lost 5th place & finished 7th.

I even called out to him after the race in the chat but he claimed it was network lag. Plus, my SR rating got a beating. So here it wasn't my fault but I suffered more. That user didn't even slow down to apologize or give the position or something similar. So I didn't believe his network lag excuse.

What I would hope for is before a DR or SR rating is affected due to an accident, the system should check the telemetry of both cars involved to see who was right & who was wrong before making the decision. Sometimes it could be a racing incident even. I know this would take a while but wish it was automated & quick.

Unfortunately this stuff happens and the tracks on offer do give them ample opportunity, I just tried a race A and low and behold, starting from pole in an whole BS lobby I get put in the sand 😁

The thing I’ve noticed about race A, because after my punt the guy behind was in the lead, he serves a penalty and I guess due to the penalty placement where everyone else needs to brake and crawl around the corner, it has little effect as he was still in the lead on lap 2.

It is what it is and you just have to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and go again next race

Well I'd hoped to be back online by now.... but no. New provider is having problems as well, so sending out a 4g mini hub - which they say will be here on Saturday - big lolz.

@Barney Da Dog ....Hey man, since I live in Italy and montain / woods zone, I use starlink. No issues to play. Ping around 40/50 and 150/200mb download if this feedback can help you. I also play counter strike with no issues...

But when u have heavy rain, u cant play.

I did some races with @newmedia_dev and @Gurzu and I believe my internet do not cause issues like lag or teleport

How much do you pay for Starlink, just curious. Are you able to complete races with that connection? If your wi-fi disconnects during a race, you will exit the lobby and automatically be placed last which will hurt your DR, but your SR won't change.

Is even the M6 done in daily C? BRZ is that much superior with less tyre wear? Noticed today less and less people use anything else but the BRZ.

It's definitely worth continuing to race in Race C this week.

I started a race yesterday in P8, got punted off at the top of the hill on lap 1, got back onto the track last and 20 seconds behind P15. I decided to head straight for the pits and put medium tyres on.

I knew I'd have to stop again, but I caught back up with the pack, stopped on lap 10 for some more medium tyres, and finished 9th! 😁
