As usual with monza, I can lay down a decent qualy lap (50.4) but in raves I lack consistency if my weapon of choice is not good at riding kerbs. And the aidi R8 hates them, causing me a lot of grief.

I practiced with the viper and yet again ive absolutely zero clue how u people drive it, the engine note does my head in, it never sounds fast, I can't change by ear, it feel heavy and sloppy.....I don't get it.

Also tried the Jag and its pretty dang good, got it down to a 50.5, issue I have is I need tc2 I'm races vs the audi tc1 and that hurts. A more skilled man than me could definitely make use of it though, to me its a real sleeper.
 
My god the Supra at St Croix is stupidly OP. Ran the Viper for a few, ran the Vette, the Ford, even the Jag. Nothing is as fast, as stable, or as quick as the Supra is. At least not in my hands anyways :D

Gonna be a really boring week I think.

I ran the viper around there a few times and I found that I had to drive it with intent. If I was methodical and controlled the Viper was super fast. I could change direction fine, could hop curbs easily, but none of it was "at the drop of a hat". Everything took commitment and purpose.

Basically for me the Viper drives the exact opposite of twitchy.

The trick with the viper mate is to change at about the suggested gear box just over half way up the rev counter, I know what you mean by feeling heavy and cumbersome but I guess I got used to it when the viper was the meta at Sardegna that time, but it eats everyone off the line, the Porsche doesn’t stand a chance against it top end and the Audi can’t overcome it either,

You do spur me on in the timings mate, saw your 50.4 and had to quit out of my race countdown to go chase it 😁

The racing is just awful though, the moves people try just about always end in tears, I was put to the back from P3 just now and finished 2nd, it’s ridiculous. Can’t keep my SR in the S 😞

Think I've been turning in way too early - I should actually look at a track guide 🙈
I have an optimum in the mid 20s now, but so easy to lose half a second with one bad exit.

This turn and T1 is where I lose the most time.

I ran the Race C (Circuit de Sainte-Croix) this morning and you need to pit, no? I got 1 min penalty at the end for not doing it.

You were penalised because the race details state there are 2 mandatory tyre compounds. Clearly you only used 1 compound. If mandatory pit stop is not defined, but multiple required compounds are, you’ll be obliged to pit in order to change tyres!

Yeah the racing is a bit iff. One race last night I was P3 off the line but before the race I noted a particular flag 2 cars behind with a Viper and bet myself he barge through T1. Sure as sugar it happened, I was P16 after T1.

I might try the WRX but I do think people are sleeping on the Jag, it has legs.

I hope that as the week goes on people will learn that 6 laps is long enough to avoid winning the race on the first turn :lol:

With the Vipers on track it feels like a multiclass race.
Im sticking with the R8 but its hard to follow them even with slipstream.

I wished they have banned this car.
It would have been a much better race IMO.

Yes, it's a weird track - I can't get a handle on it at all.

Having said that, at my level there are a lot of people worse than me - got this win after starting P5:-

As it stands, the race is a lottery as turn 1 lap 1 is utterly awful, if you are on the right on the entry you just pushed out to the sand but as you say once people get bored of it and return to wreckfest standards might improve.

This lunch, a guy on the main straight, for no reason, had no interactions with him at all, decided to side swipe me, probably due to another’s incident.

Not sure I can keep this up all week

In my races, the second chicane on the first lap is even worse than the first one.
Different cars, different braking zones and different approaches when attacking the kerbs... add hard tyres to the equation and you have a perfect recipe for chaos.

What happens in their minds when they see a traffic jam with 6 cars or more on a bottleneck ahead and they dont lift, they even brake late! I havent seen a race yet with no carnage on that chicane.

Another monday problem at Monza.
Yesterday I saw people jumping to track with no practice and they are braking early and hard in some turns that should be treated just with a small tap on the brakes and some coasting (Lesmo).

It was that or I just faced the mother of all brake checks!

I love Monza in Gr.3 so I will keep trying but this will be a hard week for DR I think :lol:

Absolutely mate, it’s such a shame because it’s Monza and such a missed opportunity for a great race, I’d say it would better without the chicane but then as you say they’d all pile up T2 😁

Hopefully it improves as the weeks goes

I’ll keep persevering too because race A isn’t the answer and either is C ( for me )
 
I'm surprised I'm not seeing more love for Race A this week. On paper, it's a dream Gran Turismo combination.

There is certainly a carefully-balanced flow between NSX and Grand Valley. The election of Sports Mediums is a masterstroke, it really allows a for a good amount of chuck-ability whilst still having to be conscious of weight transfer.

I think there's quite a vicious cycle when it comes to these combos... Less people attending the races, means a wide spread of driving standards. This is turn punishes the victim/bystander of any incident doubly because you're getting overtaken by lots of drivers with vastly inferior DR, and the loss of ranking points is exaggerated. Hence people tend to stay away completely.

This all isn't to say the races have been particularly dirty, although the same pit-manoeuvre/wall slam exploits we've been seeing in this slot are clearly present and correct with those who like to partake in that kind of thing! It's just that the consequences are quite extreme given the relative instability of the vehicle and the points I made previously.

if two compounds are required then one pit is mandatory. if they'd put "mandatory pit" as well then it would be redundant.

I think most of the people who are playing Dailies are playing "Race Car Racing" not "Street Car Racing".

Personally I’ve found B frustrating, the lap at C weird to extract time and well A I’m happy lap wise just not my thing in a race combo.

B has been harsh for me, and it’s worse because the guy with a 4 second pen doesn’t even wait.

It’s early in the week but the calibre and standards are quite low

I think you're absolutely spot on.

There's a division between Daily A players and Daily B/C players.

I honestly feel very much in a minority within the Daily A minority: a traditional GT player, raised on stock and tuned road cars, who is striving to drive them as fast as possible in a competitive environment.

I've learned to accept that category race cars are the bread and butter for most online competitors. Therefore it will follow that the same is true for Gran Turismo.

(I still love Group 2 though!)

No that’s not fair, it’s a fair stance but it’s not balanced.

I often do the daily A’s the standout being the vette at goodwood or the delta at Sardegna

Tuning is a layer and it’s hit and miss for most people not better or worse but it adds complexity which is a barrier.

Honestly it’s for me the lack of structure in the dailes, there is no progression structure just do A get familiar, do B it’s Gr3 this weak, do a longer race.

It’s quite dry. And unrewarding, couple it with the lobby ranking it’s really a hard aske generally for anyone even is hardened guys!
 
I do wish we used older race cars more often, old Alfas, Massers, Jags, mercs etc. I feel like PD went through a phase recently of trying to be more creative. There's just too much group 4 imho, and TBH there's not enough tracks suitable to group 4, as in slightly smaller tracks.

Don't get me wrong here, there are big improvements I dream of within the now- established "Road Car Land" of Race A.

I know these will never happen, but my wishes:
  • shuffle the venue or the car every couple of days to combat the dryness that you mention. Some familiarity would carry across without alienating players.
  • crank up the general strictness of penalties for these races. I honestly believe the hardcore crowd would be more amenable to them if they knew the trademark heavy-handedness of certain 'Race A specialists' would be appropriately punished.

But at the end of day, this is why I'm here in Sport Mode at all. Transferring the thrill of driving sometimes quirky, sometimes unpredictable, and typically idiosyncratic road cars really fast. I was definitely allowed the opportunity to hone many new skills using the racecar categories, that I can't deny, but my idea of a thrill lies in racing vehicles one theoretically "could do in real life" (for a lack of a better way of putting it).

Oh yes definitely! I see they've started limiting the available choices of cars in some of the events. I don't know why they don't give the lesser-used machinery the occasional chance to shine. Why not have a race with a custom BoP between only the German manufacturers, for example?

PD 100% missed the BOP for this weeks Race C. My last three lobbies were 90% Supra with the last lobby being 14 Supras and 1 BMW. Also it's vv fun to race from behind this week. I'm enjoying not setting a time and seeing where I can finish.
 
Pff I'm having a hard time getting to grips with race C. Normally I tend to spin / crash a lot in qualifying, due to trying to get the most out of it. Now my quali laps were eventless, but I bin it in every single race. In close proximity to other cars I apparently can't help myself and I put down the throttle too early in order to stay / get closer to the car in front. In all my races I ended DFL. Breathe... let's try again tomorrow with hopefully some more calmness and clarity in my driving style.

Painful week mate, there is no hope for it, going to be a long hard slog until Monday, I just need to get back to SR S and then I’m going alt account all weekend,

You have have to pray you get around the first 2 turns intact and there is no maniacs in the lobby just wanting everyone to burn,
 
Am having a blast at St. Croix as it's one of my absolute favourite track. In the two days of playing here, just an odd race here or there have I encountered someone getting dirty or overly aggressive. I think this track being wide helps in giving enough room just about to everyone else.

Apart from DR climbing 2000+ points all thanks to favourable results here, today in the four races I took part, I was among some fast but fair users. When You race amongst such people, any result at the end of the race is cherished. All of the drivers in the top 5 positions were such gentlemen & respectful. Practically, we were racing amongst ourselves for the four races & each one of them was close but fair. Hats off to them & anyone like them.
